Brunswick Sets New Records at FLIBS

Brunswick Corporation has announced that its Sea Ray, Boston Whaler and Mercury Marine brands have set multiple records during the 2019 Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show. Sea Ray, which launched an all-new 320 Sundancer Coupe at Ft. Lauderdale, saw a massive 80 percent increase in show sales from a year ago, demonstrating the success of its reinvention strategy. Boston Whaler continues to benefit from significant year-over-year sales growth in September and October, leading to a very successful Ft.

Mercury Marine Mourns Loss of Charlie Strang

Mercury Marine is saddened by the death of Charles “Charlie” Strang who served as Carl Kiekhaefer’s top engineer for 13 years at Mercury Marine. After leaving Mercury, he served as Director of Outboard Marine Engineering (OMC) and later CEO and Chairman of the Board. Strang, 96, was also known as the creator of the sterndrive engine, sketching the first sterndrive in 1948 while attending MIT. Strang’s mother, Ann, is responsible for the famous Mercury Phantom Black engine color. Strang was a very popular figure in both the marine and NASCAR industries.

Brunswick, Mercury Marine to Aid Mercy Ships

When the Africa Mercy, the world’s largest private hospital ship, provides its next field service in Cameroon, Africa, it will do so with a new dive boat and several new Mercury Marine outboard engines for the ship’s dive and rescue operations thanks to a recent donation from Brunswick Corporation and its engine subsidiary, Mercury Marine. Mercy Ships is a global charity that offers free life-changing surgeries, holistic health care and specialized training for local health care professionals in some of the world’s poorest areas.

Brunswick Acquires Lankhorst Taselaar

Brunswick Corporation said it has completed its acquisition of Lankhorst Taselaar, a marine parts and accessories distribution company based in the Netherlands and Germany. Lankhorst Taselaar will be integrated into Mercury Marine to augment the engine maker’s P&A business in Europe. “Lankhorst Taselaar bolsters and solidifies the distribution arm of our marine P&A business in Europe,” said Brunswick Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mark Schwabero. “As we have done in recent years with BLA in Australia and Payne’s Marine in Canada, Lankhorst Taselaar expands our reach and customer responsiveness in the global marine marketplace and offers us a larger footprint upon which to build in Europe.

Mercury Marine develops and manufactures technology designed to enhance the boating experience. The marine engines manufacturer recently teamed up with Belzona boats to “Go Boldly” on the water with former University of Wyoming basketball star and lifelong boating enthusiast Nichole Rider. “My dad bought a power boat when I was five years old; it just changed my life,” Rider said. But while in college, Rider was involved in a near-fatal car accident. Doctors told her family that she had little chance to survive the first night, and if she did, she would be paralyzed.

Brunswick Launches Aluminum RHIB Line

At the first day of the International WorkBoat Show in New Orleans, La., Brunswick Commercial & Government Products (BCGP) introduced an 8.5-meter aluminum RHIB. A first of its kind for the Company, the 850 Aluminum Impact RHIB is the introductory model from a line-up that features five variants ranging in size from 7.5-meters to 12-meters. Designed for the commercial and government marketplace, BCGP will market the new line-up to domestic law enforcement agencies as well as militaries worldwide.

SeaPro FourStroke Making Gains in the Commercial Market

Mercury Marine’s family of SeaPro FourStroke outboard engines is suited for high-hour applications and harsh environments, according to the manufacturer, who said the engines are gaining popularity within the commercial marketplace. The line’s latest commercial marine endorsement comes from TowBoatUS, operator of more than 600 boats in the U.S., who is investing in Mercury SeaPro outboards on some of its fleet, including one vessel in Ft. Myers, Fla. “Having Mercury’s on the back, you never have to worry about breaking down,” said Captain Dan Medina of TowBoatUS.

Mercury Marine Expands Manufacturing Capacity

Mercury Marine is adding a 53,000 square foot manufacturing capacity expansion to its global headquarters in Fond du Lac, Wisc. The expansion will consist of 45,000 square feet of manufacturing capacity and an additional 8,000 square feet of office space. In addition, Mercury is investing in state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment to better streamline the manufacturing process and meet the growing demands in the marketplace. The new space will be completed in January, 2017. “This is an exciting time for Mercury Marine,” said John Pfeifer, Mercury Marine president.

Mercury Diesel Engines for 16 New USCG Boats

Mercury Marine has entered an agreement with Metal Shark Aluminum Boats to power 16 U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) boats with Mercury diesel engines. “Mercury Marine’s 2.0 diesel engines are ideal for smaller vessels such as the Coast Guard Cutter Boat ATON Medium,” said Greg Lambrecht, Metal Shark vice president. “The U.S. diesel market is evolving and adapting and our marine customers are taking notice of the diesel advantage when it comes to performance and fuel economy,” said Reinhard Burk, Mercury Marine Senior director of diesel & propulsion strategies.

Mercury Marine Begins HQ Expansion

Mercury Marine will add a 45,000 square foot expansion to its electro-deposition paint (EDP) system that will double its current processing capabilities. Mercury Marine Receives Brunswick Safety Award

Mercury Marine's Juarez, Mexico, plant recently received the Brunswick Corporation Chairman's Safety Award for excellence in safety and employee engagement. The presentation held on Friday June 4 in Juarez, featured Brunswick Corporation CEO Dustin McCoy, Brunswick Corporation COO Mark Schwabero, Mercury Marine V.P. of Global Operations Chris Drees and other executives at the company. In conjunction with this award, Brunswick will donate $10,000 on behalf of Juarez employees to a charitable organization of their choice. The workers chose to make the donation to Centro Humano de Liderazgo, A.C.

Governments here and abroad, meanwhile, continue to cut budgets. Many of the security craft to be delivered this year are built to save energy, reduce emissions and reach higher speeds and greater cruising ranges than their predecessors. Mercury Marine, FPT Partner for Diesel Engine Launch

Mercury Marine informs it has signed a supply agreement with FPT Industrial to make the FPT 6.7L mechanically fuel injected NEF engines available for sale in global markets. The 6.7L diesel engine, branded Mercury Diesel, offers power for single application (22’ to 30’) sterndrive and inboard boats such as passenger ferries, taxi boats and other government applications, as well as dual applications such as passenger ferries, taxi boats, boats with water jet propulsion and displacement trawlers (30’-50’). The 6.7L midrange engine will become available in the marketplace in the first quarter of 2016, following its official launch at the 2016 China International Boat show in Shanghai.

Mercury Marine Donates Engines for Hydro-Ambulance

Ambulatory services in Congo, Africa are now improved thanks to a donation by Mercury Marine. The global marine propulsion company recently donated two 60hp outboard engines that have been installed on a boat that will act as a hydro-ambulance, equipped to reach the most remote villages along the Congo River. The boat, which will be docked at the port of Cremona and commissioned by the non-profit organization For African Children, will be equipped with the proper equipment to allow birth and pediatric surgery on board the vessel.
