New Team at InterManager Takes Over

InterManager appoints Gerardo Borromeo president, joined by four new vice-presidents. InterManager, is an international trade association for in-house and third party ship managers presently has a membership of 91 – both Full and Associate members – involved in the management of almost 5,000 vessels and some 250,000 crew. Mr Borromeo, who was elected unopposed at InterManager's AGM in Copenhagen, succeeds Alastair Evitt, Managing Director of Meridian Marine Management, who has completed his two-year term of office. InterManager members attending this year’s Annual General Meeting on Thursday (October 11) will thank retiring President Alastair Evitt for his work at the helm of the association over the past two years. InterManager President Warns Against Stopping Ransoms

Any move at the government level to ban the payment of ransoms to pirates would have a massively detrimental effect on the risk to the world's seafarers and the global economy, according to Alastair Evitt, Managing Director of Meridian Marine Management, President of InterManager and the newly appointed Chairman of the Save Our Seafarers Campaign. The “horrors” of piracy have dominated the first year of Meridian Marine Management Managing Director Alastair Evitt’s first year in his role as President of InterManager, the international trade association for the shipmanagement industry. Summing up his first year representing the world’s third-party and in-house ship managers, Mr Evitt told the InterManager Annual General Meeting today (November 15th) that the fight against global piracy is a priority for his presidency and praised the way the shipping industry has united to fight it.

Epic to Build 3 RoPax Ships

Epic Shipping (UK) will expand its RoPax fleet with the purchase of three newbuild vessels to be delivered mid to end of 2008 and 2009. The three vessels are to be constructed by Cantiere Navale Visentini in Italy, and will be 186.5 min length, with a 25.6 m beam and have a deadweight of 7,000 tons. They will have an operational speed of up to 24 knots. Each vessel will have a cargo capacity of 2,300 lane metres for freight plus space for 195 cars. There will be 107 cabins onboard each vessel and passenger capacity, including crew for each vessel, will total 880 on short voyages and 400 if employed on longer international voyages. One of the vessels will be built to Ice Class 1A standard and the other two will be Ice Class 1C.
