Metro Ports Celebrates 90 years

Metropolitan Stevedore Co., established in 1923 in Southern California and with business roots dating back to the 1850s gold rush era through its original San Francisco parent corporation, California Stevedore and Ballast Co., is celebrating its 90th anniversary. Through the years, Metropolitan Stevedore Co. became known as Metro, so in 2008 the decision was made to use Metro Ports as the new brand for the various key operating companies of Wilmington, Calif.-based Nautilus International Holding Corp.

Metropolitan Stevedore Announces Two Appointments

Metropolitan Stevedore Co., West Coast general and bulk cargo contract stevedore and terminal operating company, recently announced the appointments of vice president and chief financial officer John R. Hampton and controller Phillip Poggi. Hampton, who holds an MBA from Pepperdine University, began his career with Metropolitan 1993 as its maintenance manager. In his new position, Hampton will be in charge of all the company’s financial reporting, including its subsidiaries Pacific Warehouse Company, Metro Risk Management LLC, Destination Pier 35, Trona Export Terminals, LLC ( a joint venture), and will oversee Metro’s human resources. Hampton will report directly to President and CEO James Callahan.

Metropolitan Stevedore Granted Commodore Cruise Contract

Metropolitan Stevedore has been awarded the stevedoring services contract for Commodore Cruise Line's new day cruises sailing between San Diego and Rosarito Beach, Mexico. S/S Enchanted Sun will call at San Diego's passenger terminal, operating nine calls per week with one daily round-trip voyage Sunday through Thursday. Metropolitan Stevedore Co. also runs the Los Angeles Cruise Ship Terminal and the San Francisco Cruise Terminal-Pier 35, providing both terminal and stevedore services.
