MHI Vestas Wins First OWF Order in Japan

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has signed a firm order with Akita Offshore Wind Corporation (AOW) to supply turbines for the Akita Noshiro Offshore Wind Farm (OWF) Project. This is the first firm order in Japan for the Danish wind turbines manufacturer."In a sector first for a utility-scale project in Japan, MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has completed firm and unconditional orders to supply turbines for the Akita and Noshiro offshore wind farms, jointly referred to as the Akita Noshiro Offshore Wind Farm Project," said a press release from the company.The wind farms have an expected combined output of 139 MW.MHI Vestas will supply 33 V117-4.2 MW turbines in total, to be installed with fixed-bottom foundations at both sites.

MHI Vestas Orders ABB Transformers

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind, the global wind turbine manufacturer, has selected ABB’s Power Grids business to deliver its WindSTAR transformers for the Triton Knoll offshore wind project in the UK.ABB’s WindSTAR power transformers are designed to fit inside the wind turbine and can withstand strong vibrations, sudden movements and variable electrical loading, typical of wind power. MHI Vestas Offshore Wind Intros Safety’N’Mind

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has created a digital safety training mobile app developed to streamline safety refresher training courses for offshore wind turbine technicians, which has been accredited by the Global Wind Organization (GWO).Industry-first Safety’N’Mind is designed as a digital, gamified substitute for one theoretical training day. MHI Vestas Installs 1st Turbine at Northwester 2

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind (MVOW) announced that the first turbine has been installed at Northwester 2 in Belgium, the world’s first offshore wind park to feature the record-breaking V164-9.5 MW turbine.The 219 MW project, Northwester 2, is the first offshore wind park in the world to deploy the V164-9.5 MW turbine from MHI Vestas. The project will consist of 23 V164.9-5 MW turbines to spin 50 km off the coast of Ostend in Belgium.Northwester 2 is the fourth collaboration between Parkwind and MHI Vestas in Belgian waters, soon providing a combined output capacity of 765 MW in the country.“The installation of the world’s first commercial wind turbine exceeding 9 MW is an exceptionally proud moment for our company,” said MHI Vestas Chief Operations Officer Flemming Ougaard.

GWS Wins Northwester 2 Turbine Contract

Danish wind turbine installation and service company Global Wind Service (GWS) has secured a contract to support MHI Vestas on the Northwester 2 offshore wind project by providing technicians for the installation of turbines.The deal includes GWS offshore installation technicians supporting the installation of 23 MHI Vestas 164-9.5MW turbines at the site offshore Belgium from November.GWS is also supporting MHI Vestas with pre-assembly activities on Northwester 2 through its base in Vlissingen.“We are grateful to MHI Vestas Offshore for the opportunity to support the first offshore installation of their V164 9.5MW WTGs and we very much look forward to mobilizing our experienced personnel for this important project.

MHI Vestas Bags Taiwan Switchgear Deal

Acta Marine Names Third Walk to Work CSV

Acta Marine has held a naming ceremony for its latest walk-to-work construction support vessel Acta Centaurus in Den Helder, the Netherlands.Mrs. Marianne van Oord named the vessel Acta Centaurus. Centaurus being one of the stellar constellations in the northern hemisphere. MHI Vestas Confirms Scotland Offshore Wind Order

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind will supply 100 turbines for the 950-megawatt (MW) Moray East offshore wind farm in waters off the northeast coast of Scotland.Under the contract, MHI Vestas will deliver one hundred of its V164-9.5 MW offshore wind turbines for the project in the Moray Firth. Fred. Olsen Windcarrier Installs 400th Wind Turbine

Denmark-based offshore wind farms service provider Fred. Olsen Windcarrier has marked a milestone in offshore wind turbine installation as it installed the 400th unit.The turbine has been installed at Vattenfall’s Horns Rev 3 offshore wind farm in Denmark using the jack-up vessel Brave Tern.Horns Rev 3 will consist of a total of 49 V164-8.3 MW turbines from MHI Vestas Offshore Wind and will supply power to 425.000 Danish households once finished.Recently Bold Tern finished the installation of 56 V164-8.3 MW turbines for Ørsted at Borkum Riffgrund 2 in Germany.The two vessels have a wrap-around-the-leg offshore-rated cranes with 800t maximum lift at 26m.

MHI Vestas to Provide Turbines for EDF Renewables New Jersey Offshore

EDF Renewables North America has selected MHI Vestas Offshore Wind as the preferred supplier for the Nautilus Offshore Wind project off the coast of Atlantic City, New Jersey.The pioneering offshore wind project, the first in New Jersey, has plans to feature three V164-8.3 MW turbines from MHI Vestas, taking the company’s V164 platform to the US offshore wind market for the first time.Nautilus Offshore Wind’s installation timetable is ahead of other US projects with plans to be operational as soon as 2020.“We’re proud to be named as preferred supplier for the Nautilus Offshore Wind project and look forward to bringing our flagship V164 turbine to the US market with EDF Renewables,” said MHI Vestas CEO, Philippe Kavafyan.

DOF Bags Subsea Contracts

DOF Subsea has been awarded several contracts securing utilisation of personnel and vessels in the Subsea IMR Projects segment. DOF Subsea has been awarded a contract in the Atlantic region by MHI Vestas Offshore Wind for the Skandi Constructor. The contract will commence at the end of Q3 and secures utilisation until the end of 2018. The Asia Pacific region has been awarded several contracts securing ROV and diving work for Skandi Singapore through Q4 2018 for several clients in the Asia Pacific region.A month ago, Petrobras has awarded DOF Subsea Brasil a contract for utilization of the Brazilian built OSV vessel Skandi Salvador. The 650 days firm contract (plus 650 days extension by mutual agreement) will commence in July. Skandi Salvador is currently working for Shell Brasil.

A 15-year contract will see a new ESVAGT service operation vessel (SOV) support MHI Vestas Offshore Wind in the Deutsche Bucht (DeBu) Wind Farm project. Block Island — U.S.-based Deepwater Wind’s five-turbine, 30-megawatt wind park — was the first. It showed what was possible, what might not have been optimal and how long it all takes. Since then, incentives for onshore-wind have been curbed, while a tax credit for offshore wind has been extended. Wind parks are in the works. States have power companies buying offshore wind energy, and experienced offshore operators are hiring the new wind-service vessels from elements of their oil-and-gas supply chain. The Jones Act, too, is being overcome by fleet owners and designers joining the U.S.
