US Charges former Boxer Over $1 Billion Containership Cocaine Seizure

A former heavyweight boxer from Montenegro was charged by the U.S. Department of Justice on Monday with trafficking in 22 tons of cocaine worth over $1 billion, most of which was part of one of the largest cocaine seizures in American history.Goran Gogic, 43, was arrested on Sunday night while trying to board a flight to Zurich from Miami International Airport, after being indicted by a grand jury in New York.Prosecutors charged Gogic with three counts of violating the federal Maritime Drug Law Enforcement Act, and one count of conspiracy.

Florida's First Ocean-to-Air Transhipment

Already the busiest port of entry in America for international air freight, Miami International Airport will soon be able to receive perishable freight imports by sea as well – a first for any Florida airport – through a permit approved in September by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Crowley’s Miami-base Logistics Team Came up With the Goods for Philippines

As one of the warehouse and logistics facilities contracted by the U.S. Agency for International Administration (USAID) to provide pre- and post-disaster relief commodity storage services for the United States, Crowley Maritime Corporation's Miami-based logistics team rapidly deployed emergency aid commodities for the Philippines last month in the aftermath of Super Typhoon Haiyan. Liebherr Opens Miami Sales and Service Center

The new Liebherr sales and service center will celebrate its grand opening on June 11, 2013 in Miami, Florida. On this occasion, guests can convince themselves of Liebherr’s innovative power and high technological standards in the course of a machine demonstration and a technology presentation. The new state-of-the-art facility is located in Hialeah Gardens just off Okeechobee and the Florida Turnpike. Cruise Traffic Up at Port Everglades

Cruise travel from Broward County's Port Everglades increased by 13.5 percent this past fiscal year (Oct. 1, 2001 through Sept. 30, 2002), greatly contributing to the Port's overall $9.7 million increase in operating revenue. A record 3.5 million passengers sailed to and from Port Everglades in the past fiscal year representing a 12.9 percent increase over the previous year. Cruise revenue increased by 26 percent from $20.4 million in FY2001 to $25.6 million. The greatest increases came from multi-day cruises with the number of passengers increasing 24.9 percent from 2.0 million in FY2001 to 2.5 million in FY2002. Single-day cruises decreased by 7 percent from 1.1 million passengers in FY2001 to 1.0 million passengers in FY2002.

Pilot Project for Cruise Baggage

The U.S. Department of Transportation has stated that on March 2, 2003 the Transportation Security Administration would demonstrate a pilot project for screening passenger baggage coming off cruise ships headed to Miami International Airport.
