Taiwan’s Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation has ordered five 15,500 TEU LNG dual fuel container ships from HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.The new vessels are scheduled to be delivered in 2026. They will be equipped with a high-pressure LNG dual fuel main engine. In addition, they will feature a ballast water treatment system, an advanced integrated system for navigational information and operation monitoring and a broadband maritime satellite system.These technologies are integral for collecting navigational big data and enhancing the safety of the vessels, says Yang Ming.

Mining company Anglo American announced that its newly launched liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fueled Capesize+ vessel, the Ubuntu Harmony, has loaded its first cargo of iron ore from its Kumba operations in South Africa.The 190,000 tonne bulk carrier, flagged in Singapore, is the first of 10 LNG dual-fueled newbuilds that Anglo American will introduce to its chartered fleet during the course of 2023 and 2024, delivering an estimated 35% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to ships fueled by conventional marine oil fuel.

U-Ming Marine Offshore Company Limited (UMO) has acquired two secondhand crew transfer vessels (CTVs) and completed their reflagging.The company, a joint venture between U-Ming Marine Transport Corporation and World Marine Offshore A/S, said the vessels, “UMO Mistral” and “UMO Scirocco” were trimaran SWATH vessels ideal for the harsh environment in Taiwan. "The hull form of the trimaran gives crew and passengers optimal sea comfort and less fatigue, and reduced slamming. The design shows a 40% improvement of uptime compared to best catamarans available on the market.

Dutch shipbuilder Royal Bodewes announced it has won an order to build a 7,750 dwt cement carrier for Taiwanese shipowner and operator U-Ming Marine. The Taipei-based dry bulk shipowner has ordered a 115-meter-long cement carrier with a breadth of 15,8 meters. The Bodewes cement trader design is based on a previously delivered ship, but with a customer specific loading and unloading system designed specifically for sailing along the coast and the islands of Taiwan.The shipyard…

U-Ming Marine Transport Corporation, Taiwan’s largest publicly listed bulk carrier company, secured a 10-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel dry bulk charter contract with global mining company Anglo American.A fleet of four LNG dual-fuel Tier III 190,000 DWT bulk carriers measuring 299 by 47.5 meters each will be built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS) to support the charter. Taiwanese ocean shipping company Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation takes a hit with a net loss of about USD 42 million for the third quarter and sees signs of "weaker demand" in the container market.Yang Ming said that according to analyst firm Alphaliner’s latest projections, annual capacity growth is forecast at 3.7% and global throughput growth for 2019 is estimated at only 2.5%, which suggests a softer market demand than was previously expected.Meanwhile, the container shipping market remains vulnerable to trade uncertainties and geopolitical tensions. Taiwanese ocean shipping company Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation reported a consolidated revenues of about  NTD 40.4 billion (USD 1.3 billion) for the second quarter of 2019, up 20.24% compared to the same period of prior year.Business volumes increased by 5% year-on-year to 1.35 million TEUs. Net loss for second quarter of the year was NTD 1.27 billion (USD 40.99 million).Meanwhile, Yang Ming’s consolidated revenues for the first half of 2019 rose by 16.77% compared with the same period in the previous year to NTD 75.48 billion (USD 2.44 billion), an increase in business volume of 5% to 2.64 million TEUs.
