AIDAprima Makes Maiden Call at Southampton

AIDA Cruises’ new flagship AIDAprima docked in Britain’s Southampton port for the first time on the morning of April 27, 2016, as part of a four-day short cruise. AIDAprima will become the first cruise ship to depart from a German port all year round, from May 3 onwards visiting Southampton on Mondays as part of seven-day cruises to Western European cities from Hamburg. From April 30, 2016 Hamburg will be the departure and arrival port for seven-day round trips to cities such as London, Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam.

MHI Delivers AIDAprima

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) completed delivery of the AIDAprima, the first of two large cruise ships being built for AIDA Cruises at MHI's Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works. A ceremony to mark the occasion was attended by Michael Thamm, CEO of the Costa Group, and Felix Eichhorn, President of AIDA Cruises, representing the new owner, and Shunichi Miyanaga, President and CEO, and Yoichi Kujirai, Senior Executive Vice President and President/CEO of Commercial Aviation & Transportation Systems, representing MHI.

Great Ships of 2014: Harvest Frost

The first of three bulk carriers was delivered to Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM), unique in that the ship features a host of innovative technologies, including the Mitsubishi Air Lubrication System (MALS), which reportedly helps the ship to achieve a 27% reduction in CO2 emissions as compared to conventional bulk carriers of the same capacity. ClassNK Certifies Ship with Air Lubrication System

ClassNK has completed the EEDI appraisal of Harvest Frost, the world’s first post-panamax bulk carrier fitted with the Mitsubishi Air Lubrication System (MALS). The Harvest Frost was constructed by Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. for ADM Harvest Shipping in accordance to ClassNK rules and guidance. Developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries with support of ClassNK’s Joint R&D for Industry Program, MALS uses specialized blowers to create a layer of bubbles that flow along the bottom of a hull to improve fuel efficiency by reducing frictional resistance.

Oshima-built Grain Carrier Delivered in the US

Today the first unit of a new bulk carrier developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) was delivered to Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) of the U.S., following its completion at Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. of Nagasaki, an MHI licensing partner. The newly delivered bulk carrier is the first of three vessels, designed to serve as grain carriers, ordered by ADM in 2011 from Sumitomo Corporation. The vessel was constructed by Oshima Shipbuilding with MHI providing the conceptual design and various green technologies, including MALS.

First Bulk Carrier Delivered to ADM of US

The first unit of a new bulk carrier developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), a vessel offering superlative energy efficiency and environmental performance, was delivered today to Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) of the U.S., one of the world's foremost grain processors, following its completion at Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. of Nagasaki, an MHI licensing partner. The incorporation of a wide spectrum of innovative technologies - including MHI's proprietary Mitsubishi Air Lubrication System (MALS), which reduces frictional resistance between the vessel hull and seawater using air bubbles produced at the vessel bottom - has enabled a 27% reduction in CO2 emissions, as verified, compared to conventional bulk carriers, exceeding the target figure of 25%.

(MHI) and NEC Corporation will collaborate in the development of an "Energy Demand Forecast System for Ships" applying NEC's big data analysis technologies to achieve energy savings during ship navigation. Plans call for MHI to begin marketing the system by the end of the 2014 fiscal year ending March 2015. The Energy Demand Forecast System for Ships is to be jointly developed integrating MHI and NEC's respective technologies and knowhow.

Energy Demand Forecast System for Ships is on the Stocks

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) and NEC Corporation are to collaborate in the development of an "Energy Demand Forecast System for Ships" applying NEC's big data analysis technologies to achieve ship navigation energy savings. Plans call for MHI to begin marketing the system by the end of the 2014 fiscal year ending March 2015. The new system will project future energy demand based on previously collected data relating to ships' energy consumption, weather patterns, ambient air temperature, time of day, etc. Its forecasting technology will use NEC's heterogeneous mixture learning technologies, i.e. technologies that automatically detect massive patterns hidden in big data, discover useful patterns, and automatically switch reference rules according to the analyzed data.

MHI to Build Two Cruise Ships for Carnival

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) began construction today at its Nagasaki Shipyard and Machinery Works on the first of two new generation cruise ships for AIDA Cruises, the German cruise company part of Costa Group, Europe's largest cruise company member of Carnival Corporation & plc. MHI said the two new ships, which will incorporate an array of the world's leading-edge environmental technologies, are scheduled for delivery in the spring of March 2015 and 2016 respectively.

MHI Receives Order for NYK Line

Designed to Achieve 30% Reduction in Fuel Consumption Per Car. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), jointly with Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., has received an order to build two next-generation pure car and truck carriers (PCTC) for Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line). Formal contract signing will take place soon. In building the two vessels, MHI will provide Imabari with design information on PCTC incorporating advanced ship technologies, including installation of various devices and systems to reduce environmental burdens, such as the Mitsubishi Air Lubrication System (MALS).

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) jointly with Imbari Shipbuilding receive orders for two Pure Car & Truck Carriers (PCTC's). In building the two vessels, MHI will provide Imabari with design information on PCTC construction, incorporating advanced ship technologies, including installation of various devices and systems to reduce environmental burdens, such as the Mitsubishi Air Lubrication System (MALS). Imabari will contribute significantly to the project through its strong cost competitiveness.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) will install its innovative "Mitsubishi Air Lubrication System" (MALS) on two large cruise ships to be built for the AIDA Cruises, a German brand of Carnival Corporation. MALS is MHI's proprietary technology that reduces fuel consumption and carbon dioxide (CO2) by a layer of air bubbles blown out from the vessel's bottom. The application of the MALS for the two cruise ships ordered by AIDA Cruises was decided by their keen interest in lowering fuel consumption and easing the burden on the environment.
