Israel Linked to Cyberattack on Iranian Port

Iran Invests $857Mn in Maritime Industry

Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) has allocated 36 trillion rials (about $857.2 million) allocated 36 trillion rials ($857.2 million) to develop the country's maritime industry, including the construction of 83 vessels.Mohammad Rastad, head of PMO said that PMO has taken significant measures regarding the improvement of the country’s maritime industry.The maritime industry transformation plan was prepared by the Ministry of Transportation and Urban Development in collaboration with the Defense Ministry back in 2019.According to Rastad, the plan which has already begun is mainly focused on improving the country’s ports and maritime fleet.The program includes a project for the construction of 40 vessels…

Iran, Syria Ink Maritime Agreement

Iran and Syria have signed an agreement on mutual maritime cooperation during  the sixth round of joint maritime committee meeting on the maritime and port cooperation.The Managing Director of Iran's Maritime and Port Organization (PMO) Mohammad Rastad, and the Syrian Deputy Minister of Maritime Transportation Mohammad Ammar Kamal Al-Din, signed the agreement.The agreement has emphasized the expansion of maritime cooperation, as well as maritime education and training together with increasing maritime transportation through the shipping lines of both countries.The memorandum also emphasized the increase in maritime transport through the shipping lines of the two countries…

Are Foreign Ships Secure in Iran?

Rouhani Expects UK Tanker Held in Iran to be Released

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Thursday he expected the British-flagged oil tanker Stena Impero, seized by Iran in July, to be released after the completion of legal procedures in his country."The tanker is going through the final court proceedings. Iran, Vietnam to Improve Maritime Co-op

Iran's Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Rastad is in talks with Vietnamese officials with the aim of improving trade and connectivity capacities between the two countries.According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the managing director of the Ports and Maritime Organization met Vietnamese national shipping authorities during a visit to Vietnam and discussed the trade and communications capacities of the two countries. The discussions focused on the launch of a shipping line between ports of the two countries.Rastad also met with the Deputy Minister of Transportation during his visit to Vietnam and talked through the trade and communications capacities of the two countries on the development of port and maritime cooperation.

Anzali Port Attracts Investments

Iran's Port of Anzali announced the start of operation and Exploitation of three investment projects in its port complex.According to HamidReza Abaei, the Director General of Ports and Maritime Affairs of Gilan province, Iran, began operations last week with the President's visit with the presence Mohammad Eslami, the Minister of Roads and Urban Development, and Mohammad Rastad, the managing director of the Ports and Maritime Organization.Abaei stated that the creation of new infrastructure and facilities for attracting trades in Anzali port is on the agenda of the Directorate General of Ports and Maritime Affairs of Gilan province.Also increasing the infrastructure of Anzali complex by constructing and operating three new quays (quays No. 11 to 13) with a credit of 650 billion Rls.

Body Found on Burning Iranian Tanker

The body of one crew member has been found aboard an Iranian oil tanker that is still ablaze after colliding with a grain ship off China's east coast, an Iranian official said on Monday.   Mohammad Rastad, head of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organisation, was quoted as saying by ISNA news agency that the body was sent to Shanghai for identification.   Rescue crews are trying to bring the blaze under control and find the 32 missing crew.   Reporting by Bozorgmehr Sharafedin

Salvage, Rescue Crews Battle Oil Tanker Fire

Body of crew member found on board; casualty might be worst tanker oil spill since 1991 and concerns grow that tanker may explode, sink. Rescue crews wrestled to bring a blaze on an Iranian oil tanker off China's east coast under control on Monday as fire raged for a second day following a collision with a grain ship, while the body of one of the 32 missing crew members was found on aboard. Concerns were growing that the tanker, which hit a freight ship on Saturday night in the East China Sea and burst into flames, may explode and sink, the official China Central Television (CCTV) said on Monday, citing experts on the rescue team. Poor weather continued to hamper the rescue work, Lu Kang, a spokesman at China's foreign ministry, told a regular news briefing.

Ship Collision; Iranian Tanker Burns; 32 Missing

IRClass Appointed RO for Iran; opens office in Tehran

Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) has received authorisation as a Recognised Organisation from Iran’s maritime administration – Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO). Strengthening its presence further in the Middle East, IRClass has also set up an office in Tehran to offer its services to the Iranian maritime sector. This move is the latest in a series of steps taken by IRClass to enhance its global footprint. The RO agreement was signed on Sunday, 5th February 2017 at a ceremony held in Tehran, Iran by Mr. Mohammad Rastad, Member of the Board of Directors and Deputy Managing Director for Maritime Affairs, on behalf of the PMO and Mr. Suresh Sinha, Managing Director of IRClass. “The Middle East is a key focus market and we see significant potential for growth.
