A.P. Møller Holding A/S has acquired offshore vessel services firm Maersk Supply Service A/S from A.P. Møller – Mærsk A/S, through the closing of the previously announced transaction.In connection with the closing of this acquisition, A.P. Moller Holding has elected a new CEO and Board of Directors for Maersk Supply Service A/S. Christian M. Ingerslev will take over the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) position from Steen S. Karstensen, who has been at the helm of Maersk Supply Service since 2016.

Chief Operating Officer (COO) Søren Toft has decided to pursue another opportunity outside the company and will leave A.P. Møller - Mærsk A/S effective today. CEO Søren Skou will take on the responsibilities of the COO in the interim.The Executive Board will hereafter consist of Søren Skou, Carolina Dybeck Happe, Vincent Clerc, and Morten Engelstoft.Søren Toft joined A.P. Møller - Mærsk in 1994 and became a member of the Executive Board in December 2017.

Jordan's Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT), operated by APM Terminals,  is making strong progress in its transformation into a transport and logistics hub for the Levant region.The port operating company in Jordan said that this is being driven by improvements in infrastructure, capacity and digital systems spearheaded by the container port.“The port´s new platform and systems enhance Aqaba's competitiveness in the fields of industry and logistics and is transforming it into a logistical gateway for various modes of transportation across the Middle East," commented Nasser Al-Shraideh, Chief Commissioner of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA)."Private-public partnerships like ACT, are key to closing the gap as they bring digital competence, investment and knowledge.

Danish shipping group A.P. Moller-Maersk said on Tuesday its chief financial officer has decided to leave the company after only 16 months in the role. The departure of Jakob Strausholm, who took the role as chief finance, strategy and transformation officer in December 2016, comes after Maersk decided to separate the finance role from its IT and digital transformation function, the company said. The change comes amid a major restructuring and digital drive which Maersk hopes will simplify the process of moving goods around the world.

The Maersk Group welcomes the final Paris agreement among some 195 countries, covering more than 90% of global greenhouse gas emissions. The Group is however disappointed that the outcome does not regulate the environmental impact of shipping. Climate change was the buzzword around Paris the last two weeks as over 100 world leaders and 40,000 delegates attended a landmark climate conference in the French capital. The final agreement at the 21st annual occurrence of the Conference of Parties to the United Nation’s Convention on climate change, or COP21, concluded with a landmark agreement where 190 countries for the first time agreed to address their emissions and committed to keep global warming below 2 degrees with a view to limit it to 1,5 degrees.

Morten Engelstoft, CEO of Services and Other Shipping, said CO2 issues will be on his agenda as a newly appointed member of a UN High-level Advisory Group for Sustainable Transport. The cause to champion CO2 reduction in shipping has been given a boost from a Maersk Group perspective. Morten Engelstoft, CEO of Services and Other Shipping, has recently been appointed by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon as a member of a High-Level Advisory Group on Sustainable Transport.

Maersk Tankers, a unit of A.P. Moller-Maersk, said on Thursday it had quit four unprofitable crude oil charter contracts by buying out supertankers and selling them onwards, continuing its exit from crude oil transportation. The company now has charters for just two supertankers, called Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs), although the intention is to get out of these contracts too, Maersk Tankers spokeswoman Stine Pedersen said. Buying the vessels from their owners allows Maersk to exit the charter contracts.

Morten Engelstoft has been appointed CEO of Services & Other Shipping in Maersk, as well as of Maersk Tankers to replace Hanne B. Sorensen who has been appointed CEO of Damco. The four businesses in Services & Other Shipping (Damco, Maersk Tankers, Maersk Supply Service and Svitzer) will remain individual businesses with their own CEO’s reporting to Morten Engelstoft, who will report directly to Group CEO Nils S. Andersen. “The Group is fortunate to have highly experienced leaders to choose from internally. This makes it possible for us to maintain momentum and keep focus on the business.

Morten Engelstoft has been appointed CEO of Services & Other Shipping in Maersk. The appointment will have effect from January 1, 2014. In addition Morten Engelstoft will take over the position as CEO for Maersk Tankers, as Hanne B. Sørensen has been appointed CEO of Damco. The changes in Maersk Tankers and Damco will also be effective from January 1, 2014. Services & Other Shipping consists of Damco, Maersk Tankers, Maersk Supply Service and Svitzer. The target for Services & Other Shipping is to reach $500 million in operational profit by 2016.

Maersk Line intend to take measures to avoid a repetition of the ocean container shipping 'rate wars' of previous years. With a capacity of 18,000 20-foot containers, the Triple-E will be the largest container ship ever built. Maersk acknowledges that the introduction of the new vessels comes at a challenging time, with weak demand putting strains on all carriers. The Triple-E is built for the Asia-to-Europe (AE) service, Maersk Line’s most important trade lane. Volumes on that trade shrank by 5% in 2012, estimates industry analyst Alphaliner, and are expected to grow by only 1% in 2013.

Maersk Line announced that it reached its 2020 target of reducing CO2 emissions by 25% from its benchmark 2007 levels. “We are proud to hit this mark 8 years ahead of schedule. It is confirmation we’re on the right track. And to keep that momentum we’re raising the target to a 40% reduction in CO2 by 2020,” says Morten Engelstoft, Chief Operating Officer, Maersk Line. “Maersk Line’s focus on energy efficiency has made the company significantly more cost competitive. And by cutting our CO2 we’ve also lowered the CO2 emissions of our customers, thereby helping them meet their own CO2 targets,” says Engelstoft. Benchmarking data makes it possible for all customers to compare their shipping suppliers based on CO2 performance.

Drewry scores Maersk Line 90.5% for reliability in Q3 2012. Every quarter Drewry releases its industry benchmark on reliability –  the Drewry Schedule Reliability Insight. Every quarter Maersk Line is in the very top, and they have now had a 1st place ranking for six consecutive quarters. The score of 90.5% in Q3 is slightly lower than for Q2, but still high enough to make first place. None of the other carriers in the top 20 had a reliability score above 90%. The arrival from China of the Rickmers-owned containership Maersk Elba at the DCT Gdansk terminal on 11 May marked a new era in Baltic shipping. At 13,092TEU and carrying containers 17-wide below deck and 19-wide on the hatchcovers, she is the biggest container vessel by far ever handled by a Baltic port. Whilst in the port, Maersk Elba was visited by many dignatories including Donald Tusk, Poland’s current Prime Minister, the iconic Lech Walesa, the former union leader who successfully ran for the newly re-established office of President of Poland in 1990…

Maersk Line officially announced that the company will commence using low-sulphur fuel in their engines while at berth in Hong Kong, thereby kicking off the first voluntary fuel switch scheme in Asia. “By switching from bunker to cleaner fuel at berth, we significantly reduce emissions of sulphur to the air,” said Tim Smith, Chief Executive of Maersk Line’s North Asia Region. Maersk Line makes around 850 port calls in Hong Kong every year. Switching from bunker fuel, which is used at high sea, to low-sulphur fuel will reduce Maersk Line’s emissions of unhealthy sulphur oxides (SOx) and particles by at least 80%. The Hong Kong initiative will come at an added cost of $1m annually to Maersk Line.

Even for Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), the world’s largest shipyard group, it was a remarkable occasion. In a quadruple naming ceremony at HHI’s Ulsan shipyard on July 2, Rickmers Group christened four ultra-large container ships (ULCS) of 13,100 TEU each. Each of the four ships, Pearl Rickmers, Ruby Rickmers, Aqua Rickmers and Coconee Rickmers, has a service speed of 24.3 knots. They have been chartered longterm to Maersk Line and will join Maersk’s “E-class” as Maersk Edinburgh, Maersk Emden, Maersk Eindhoven and Maersk Essen.
