DNV GL Names New Vice Chair

International accredited registrar and classification society DNV GL has announced that Jon Fredrik Baksaas has been appointed the Vice Chair of its Board of Directors.The Norway-headquartered classification body said in a press release that Baksaas started his working career in DNV in 1979 and worked in Norway and Japan until he left DNV in 1985.He went on to work in Stolt-Nielsen and Aker and topped his executive career with more than 25 years in Telenor – the last 13 as CEO and President until he stepped down in 2015.Baksaas has served 12 years as a member of the DNV Council. Light Well Intervention: TechnipFMC, Island Offshore Partner

TechnipFMC said it has signed an agreement with the Island Offshore group to acquire a 51 percent stake in Island Offshore’s wholly owned subsidiary, Island Offshore Subsea AS. Island Offshore Subsea AS provides Riserless Light Well Intervention (RLWI) project management and engineering services for plug and abandonment (P&A), riserless coiled tubing and well completion operations. Island Offshore Subsea AS employs approximately 80 staff. Island Offshore Subsea AS has developed proprietary designs related to subsea P&A and riserless coiled tubing.

A recent clutch of 'Rolls-Royce' shipboard equipment and technology contracts in Norway arising out of specialized, capital-intensive newbuild projects testified to the U.K. group's march into the commercial marine domain. For sure, the emergence of the engineering group's name in new mercantile circles is the outcome of last year's acquisition of Vickers, and its Vickers-Ulstein Marine division, rather than the result of U.K. home-grown product diversification. But the new proprietor of the former Ulstein and Vickers' interests intends to build on the platform and integrated system opportunities offered by ownership of the industry's most extensive global network of marine equipment production.

Rolls-Royce Announces New Marine Appointment

Rolls-Royce announced a senior management change within its marine business. Andreas Fokkens will be appointed president, commercial marine, a post he will take in June when the outgoing president, Morten Ulstein, completes his three-year term in charge of the business. Fokkens is currently managing director, marine electronics, a post he has held since last September, and is responsible for electronic systems, including power electronics and automation and control systems. Previously, Fokkens was with ABB.
