PEC Premier Adds to SafeGulf Training

SEMS awareness training is now available as a part of the SafeGulf offshore safety orientation program. On January 1st, PEC Premier added a Safety and Environmental Management System module to its one-day Basic Safety Orientation and its three-day Core safety training course, meaning that both will now meet the new requirements for SafeGulf. The company is also offering stand-alone SEMS training for offshore workers who already have their SafeGulf cards. The U.S. government is now requiring oil and gas companies to implement SEMS plans for their offshore facilities.

Government Required Maritime Security Training Programs Now Available in Video Tape for Ports and S

SeaSecure LLC, has created, in partnership with Moxie Media, the first comprehensive ISPS Code and MTSA-compliant maritime security training program designed specifically for seaports and shipping companies to meet both US and international regulatory requirements. SeaSecure, a global leader in maritime security and counter-terrorism consulting, co-developed the 11 video (or DVD) training program with Moxie Media, one of the United States’ largest producers and distributors of training and safety programs. “As a result of the terror attacks of 9/11, the United Nations and the United States established requirements that port and ship personnel all receive specific maritime security training”, Petersen said in a press conference.

Hydrogen Sulfide - the Silent Killer

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) has been called the "silent killer" because it has a way of sneaking up on its victims and killing them without warning. The key to protecting crewmen against the silent killer is to raise their awareness by educating them about the dangers of H2S and the precautions necessary to work with it safely. Hydrogen sulfide is a toxic gas most often encountered as a residual contaminant in cargoes such as crude oil, #6 oil, and molten sulfur. Hydrogen sulfide can also be encountered in holds containing decomposing plant and animal materials. Ballast tanks sometimes contain hydrogen sulfide because of the decomposition of plant and animal material contained in river water.

Videos Prep Crew For Disasters And Emergencies

Moxie Media has created a two-part 25-minute video series that works to train maritime employees to quickly alert Search and Rescue authorities regarding an emergency, as well as assisting with guidance to rescue crafts. The video covers MayDay reporting protocols, as well as the most up-to-date high tech training, inspection and maintenance information on electronic signaling systems, mainly GMDSS and portable VHF emergency units. Also discussed are the donning of life jackets and immersion suits, and instruction on the use of line throwing devices to assist in the rescue of personnel and ships.
