Unifeeder to Add Two More Methanol-powered Vessels

Unifeeder Group announced it has completed a long-term charter agreement for two additional methanol-capable container feeder vessels. This follows the agreement for two initial vessels announced in October 2023. The latest agreement is in partnership with German-based ship owning group Elbdeich Reederei and Norwegian shipowner MPC Container Ships (MPCC), who are responsible for one vessel each. MPCC Announces Newbuild and Retrofit Plans

MPC Container Ships (MPCC) on Monday announced plans to retrofit several of its ships and build one new vessel as part of its ongoing fleet renewal and decarbonization strategy.The Norwegian shipowner said it has entered into joint retrofit agreements with various charter customers, under which both the charterer and MPCC will share the costs of retrofit investments followed by an extension of the vessels time-charter contracts. MPCC also said it has partnered with Denmark-based Unifeeder in a joint investment for the construction of a 1,250 TEU dual-fuel methanol newbuilding.

MPC Container Ships Orders Two "Carbon-neutral" Container Ships

MPC Container Ships Completes Songa Acquisition

MPC Container Ships ASA announce on Tuesday that it has completed its acquisition of Songa Container AS.MPC announced in June that it had entered the share purchase agreement to acquire 100% of Songa shares for $210.25 million on a debt and cash free basis.Constantin Baack, CEO of MPC Container Ships, said, "It is with great pleasure we announce the successful closing of this milestone transaction. MPC Container Ships Refinances Debt

Container ship opertor MPC Container Ships has entered into a $70 million three-year revolving credit facility agreement with CIT Group. MPC Container Ships to Acquire Songa Container

MPC Container Ships ASA (MPCC) announced it has reached a deal to acquire fellow Norwegian-based container shipping company Songa Container AS for $210.25 million on a debt and cash free basis. Container Ship Deliveries Down in H1 2019

Container ship deliveries in H1 2019 reached a historically low level, while the newbuilding market was equally subdued, said MPC Container Ships ASA.Scrapping activity in the feeder segment remained at a comparable high level in Q2 2019 as in the previous quarter, the Norway-based shipping company said.Various economic and political circumstances had a dampening effect on global container trade, compelling analysts to lower their full-year growth forecasts. However, estimates for global container trade growth for FY 2019 ranges between 3% and 3.5% while growth in active container fleet capacity (fleet development less scrubber retrofits) is estimated to grow only 1.9%.Charter rates for container ships in the Post-Panamax segment began to rise in March this year.

Seaborne Box Trade to Remain Flat: MPC

Growth in global seaborne box trade is expected to remain largely constant in 2019, with Non-Mainlane trade being an important driver while Mainlane trades expected to expand only moderately, said Norway-based MPC Container Ships ASA.In particular, the pace of global manufacturing remains a cause for concern as growth rates in Europe and Asia have been disappointing, the owner and operator of container ships said in a stock exchange annoucement.Present year container trade is estimated to grow by about 3.6%, whereas Transpacific trades grow by 0.5%, Far East Europe trades with 2.0% North-South trades with 3.7%, Other East-West with 4.1% and Intra-Regional trades with 4.9%.Trade tariffs and the threat thereof will remain a key issue in 2019.

WFW Advises MPC Container Ships Major Scrubber Acquisition Order

MPC Container Ships Plans Huge Investment in Scrubbers

The Oslo-based feeder tonnage owner MPC Container Ships has committed to buy exhaust gas cleaning systems  (scrubbers) for five of its ships, with an option to buy ten times as many additional scrubber systems.Under the agreement, the scrubbers would be retrofitted on five selected vessels within the company’s fleet prior to the January 1, 2020 implementation date of the new sulphur emission cap regulation, as set forth by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).Norwegian container feeder vessel owner said that the agreements also include options to purchase scrubbers for up to 50 additional vessels, allowing for further installations in both 2019 and early 2020, respectively.

MPC Maritime Adds Three Panamax Boxships

German's MPC Maritime Investments, a wholly-owned subsidiary of MPC Capital, has acquired three Panamax-sized container vessels on behalf of an international investor. The transaction volume amounted to USD 42 million.In the current year, MPC Maritime has procured a total of 9 single and multi-asset deals with an investment volume of more than USD 110 million. The focus of the newly acquired vessels is on bigger container ships, supplemented by bulkers and one tanker.The majority of the vessels are technically managed by Ahrenkiel Steamship and commercially managed by Contchart. Both companies are wholly-owned subsidiaries of MPC Capital AG, an internationally active asset and investment manager specialising in real asset investments.

MPC Container Ships Buys 2012-built Box Ship

MPC Container Ships ASA announced Thursday it has agreed to pay $13.86 million to acquire a 1,740 TEU containership built in 2012 at Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard, China.The Norwegian based ship owner expects to take delivery of the vessel – to be renamed AS Selina – during the third quarter of 2018, bringing its fleet to 69 vessels.

MPC Buys Secondhand Feeder Vessel

Oslo based ship owner MPC Container Ships ASA said it has reached a deal to acquire SITC Makassar, a 2,496 TEU vessel built in 2006 in Germany.   The vessel, to be renamed AS Patricia, will be acquired for $9.9 million, including initial working capital.    The vessel will be taken over by the company’s 50/50 joint venture during April 2018.   “Despite observable increases in secondhand vessel prices, . . . the current price level still offers an attractive entry point for further acquisitions,” the company said in its 2017 Annual Report. “As such, the Group intends to further grow its fleet through accretive acquisitions in 2018.”

MPC Container Ships Acquires 5 Feeder Vessels from Simatech

Oslo based MPC Container Ships ASA said it has reached a deal to acquire five feeder containerships presently managed and operated by Simatech Shipping & Forwarding L.L.C., Dubai for a total purchase price of $41.9 million in cash.    MPC said it will establish wholly-owned subsidiaries to take over the five vessels, which include Sima Pride (1,201 TEU, built 2004), Sima Perfect (1,221 TEU, built 2005), Sima Prestige (1,221 TEU, built 2005), Sima Sapphire (1,440 TEU, built 2006) and Sima Sadaf (1,440 TEU, built 2007).   Physical takeover is expected in the first half of 2018, lifting the MPC Container Ships fleet to 64 feeder units.   MPC Container Ships was formed in April 2017 and owns and operates a portfolio of containerships between 1,000 and 3,000 TEU.
