L3 MPRI Installs Simulator in Philippines

ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 15, 2011 – L-3 MPRI, a global provider of integrated training solutions, which includes simulation-based training systems, services and turnkey training facilities, today announced the installation of its Safe Cargo Liquid Cargo Handling Simulator (LCHS) in Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement’s (BSM) new Maritime Training Centre, which officially opened on Jan. 21, 2011 in Manila, Philippines. The simulator will be used to train and enhance the skills of personnel operating BSM’s extensive fleet of owned and managed liquid cargo vessels.

L-3 MPRI’s Liquid Cargo Handling Simulator Accredited for Use in the Delivery of TOTS Training Courses and Assessment Exercises for the Italian Maritime Academy Philippines

ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 08, 2011 – L-3 MPRI, a global provider of integrated training solutions, which includes simulation-based training systems, services and turnkey training facilities, today announced that its Liquid Cargo Handling Simulator (LCHS) installed at the Italian Maritime Academy Philippines (IMAP) has been accredited by the Registro Italiano Navale (RINA) for use in the delivery of the Tanker Officer Training Standards (TOTS) training and assessment programs provided by the Academy. IMAP provides training to Filipino seafarers, and the simulator will be used to ensure that all personnel are trained to the highest levels. The models and course material available with the simulator are fully compatible with TOTS, simplifying the accreditation process.

New Version of Liquid Cargo Handling Simulator Software

L-3 MPRI announced the release of Version 5.0 of its Liquid Cargo Handling Simulator (LCHS) software called Safe Cargo. This release incorporates significant improvements to the performance, instructor features and configuration options currently available in the software suite. The release is fully compliant with the latest Windows operating systems and incorporates a new network communications infrastructure that improves the speed and stability of the simulator as well as system diagnostics and recovery. The configuration wizard allows an instructor to quickly define the required simulator configuration for the training exercise, selecting from multiple ship types, and assigning the student stations to be operated independently or in groups.

Major Enhancements to MPRI’s LCHS

L-3 MPRI has launched the first liquid cargo handling simulator (LCHS) model for handysize products tankers capable of carrying mixed loads of crude oil, products and Class 2 chemicals. The simulator provides lifelike training in all aspects of operating such tankers. MPRI also introduced the WISE Assessment Tool that intelligently gauges students’ ability to perform multiple critical tasks at once. The new tool works across all of MPRI’s LCHS models. Determining the proper compatibility of handysize products tankers’ oil and chemical cargoes is vital to avoiding major safety risks including spills, explosions and fires. PCCI Awarded Subcontract for Port Environmental Engineering

PCCI, Inc. was awarded a subcontract by MPRI, Inc., a division of L-3 Communications, to provide environmental engineering expertise to an Egyptian commercial port for matters related to port environmental, marine firefighting and ship security. PCCI provided subject matter experts to review the port’s infrastructure and procedures and provide recommendations for improved all-hazards emergency response, port safety, and waste management upgrades. PCCI also developed draft plans and procedures for the port including: oil and hazardous substance spill response plans; port environmental, fire and safety training and exercise plans; and waste management plans.

MPRI Signs Contract with Dalian Port

MPRI, a global leader in maritime simulator products, services and turnkey training facilities, today announced the sale of its maritime crane simulator to the Dalian Port Container Terminal Co., Ltd (DPCM), located in Dayao Bay, Dalian, China. The MPRI crane simulator is the sixth purchased by a Chinese port to date adding to those already in use at the Ports of Yantian, Ningbo, Tianjin and Shanghai. In addition, the DPCM simulator will include the only module on the market today for tandem-lift cranes. The MPRI crane simulator can be tailored to meet the precise needs of various ports' crane systems. DPCM specifically purchased a back projector model consisting of two modules, a ship-to-shore (STS) dock gantry single-lift system with tandem-lift technology and a rubber-tire gantry (RTG).

MPRI Sells Liquid Cargo Handling Simulators

MPRI, a leader in maritime simulator products, services and turnkey training facilities, sold its SAfeCargo Liquid Cargo Handling Simulators (LCHS) in some of the world's top maritime academies, including its first three in the United States. Within the last two months SAfeCargo simulators have been adopted by the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay, the State University of New York Maritime Academy in the Bronx and Belgium-based Antwerp Maritime Academy. In November the RTM STAR Center in Dania Beach, Fla., will also install the system. "We purchased the SAfeCargo Liquid Cargo Handling Simulators from MPRI primarily for their ease of use by both the students and the instructors," said Craig Dalton, Captain, Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
