How to Stop Injured Vessel Crew from Calling My Law Firm

For 20 years, I represented operators of OSVs, jack-ups, semi-submersibles, oil and gas production platforms, harbor tugs, towboats and barges in state and federal court personal injury litigation arising in the Gulf of Mexico, across the Great Lakes and on the inland waterways. For the last decade or so, I have been representing injured crew. In the case of a death or serious injury, sometimes there is little a vessel operator can do to prevent being sued. In my experience, though, many expensive lawsuits could have been avoided had the marine employer handled the situation differently.1.

RRI Launch Marine Services J/V with a Trans-Atlantic Reach

Regional Reporting Inc. (RRI) and Global Risk Evaluations (GREvL) inform of the creation of a joint venture aimed at expanding their marine services offerings. The new company Marine Reporting International Ltd. (MRI) will combine the marine division of GREvL and RRI's UK subsidiary. The new company Marine Reporting International Ltd. (MRI) will combine the marine division of GREvL and RRI's UK subsidiary. MRI will be headed by John Worrall and John Arber, supported by George Stobbs and Marek Domanski. They will be joined by Matthew Cook in the UK and Stephen Cook acting as liaison with RRI's Marine Division to provide services on behalf of MRI throughout the USA and Canada. The combined strengths of GREvL Marine and RRI will support and grow this strong North Atlantic Alliance.

DHL Solve Weighty Problem, Deliver UK MRI Scanner to USA

DHL Global Forwarding say they have delivered the world's largest Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner ever built to the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research at the University of Minnesota. The journey of the 100-ton heavy-load module from Oxford, United Kingdom, to its destination in the U.S. via ocean and road freight  took almost 6 weeks. Weston Appointed Manager at Survival Craft

Survival Craft Inspectorate (SCI), a global provider of emergency marine systems and support services, said it has made a key appointment as it targets further growth in 2014. David Weston has been appointed training and competence operations manager at the business, which recently opened its 12th office in Rotterdam. As well as his company-wide auditing role, David – who served in the RAF for 22 years – heads up the new Survival Craft Inspectorate Training Academy in Stonehaven.

SCI Hires New Sales Head, Opens 12th Office

Survival Craft Inspectorate (SCI), a global provider of emergency marine evacuation systems, has made a new appointment and announced the opening of its 12th office. Jos Lems, who has more than 25 years’ experience in the maritime sector, has joined Survival Craft Inspectorate as Head of Global Sales. He will also lead the opening of the company’s new operation in Rotterdam, Holland. Survival Craft Inspectorate is on track to increase turnover for its year-end in 2014 to £30 million – a projected increase of 35% on its May 2013 figure. GE Trials High-Temp Superconducting Technology for Power Generation

GE’s Power Conversion business has taken a step in testing a viable way of producing large amounts of electricity from renewable resources using superconductors running at relatively high temperatures. The company completed trials of Hydrogenie, a power generator incorporating technologies that enable highly efficient production of electricity in a small space. Hydrogenie makes use of superconductors instead of copper for the rotor windings on the motor, operating at 43 Kelvin or -230°C.

Corsaire 13000 Embodies Integrated, Advanced Propulsion System

The new 440-ft. (134-m) monohull high-speed ferry Corsaire 13000 will soon undergo speed trials at the French shipyard Alstom Leroux Naval, and the successful testing and subsequent operation of the advanced vessel will prove the value of the complete propulsion system supplied by MTU. The ship is planned to operate for the French SNCM (Societe Nationale Maritime Corse-Mediterranee) on the 189-n m. crossing from Marseille and the island Corsica at 42 knots. Greatbatch Announces Agreement to Acquire EAC

Greatbatch, Inc. (NYSE:GB) announced that its subsidiary, Electrochem Commercial Power, signed a definitive asset purchase agreement to acquire Engineered Assemblies Corporation (“EAC”) for approximately $12m in cash. Greatbach expects to close this transaction in November 2007. EAC, based in Teterboro, New Jersey, with operations in Suzhou, China, is a leading provider of custom battery solutions and electronics integration focused on rechargeable battery systems. EAC complements and extends the array of markets Electrochem currently serves, such as military and aerospace, oceanographic and seismic surveying, and other industrial markets.
