Skangas Delivers Milestone Fuel Change

Skangas said its vessel Coralius has for the first time both cooled down tanks and delivered liquefied natural gas (LNG) in one operation. The receiving vessel LEG/C Navigator Aurora was supplied with just under 500 mt LNG in the middle of a voyage between Sweden and South Europe over October 7 and 8, 2017. Going from using diesel oil to LNG requires time consuming but necessary process of cooling down operation of the receiving ship’s fuel gas tanks from ambient conditions to minus 160 degrees.

Shell Plans Second LNG Terminal in India

The Hague-based global energy giant Royal Dutch Shell is planning to establish a floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility on the east coast of India at Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh. Shell already has a 5 million tonne LNG terminal at Hazira in Gujarat set up nearly a decade back. The Hazira Terminal includes a LNG storage and re-gasification terminal within a fully functional port. The Andhra Pradesh government has recently decided to induct global oil major Shell with a 26 percent equity in the proposed special purpose vehicle (SPV) for setting up a floating, storage and re-gasification unit (FSRU) for liquefied natural gas at Kakinada.

Oil Ministry Hopes to Get Iran LNG Contract

With the UN referral issue creating uncertainty about India's future relations with Iran, the Petroleum Ministry is fairly assured of the supply of five-million-ton contracted liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Iran. According to the Hindu Business Line, the 5 mt per annum LNG deal was legally binding, which ends speculations that the $20 billion LNG deal with Iran may be in trouble. The ongoing negotiations with Iran are for the additional 2.5 mt per annum. The issue of pricing for the contracted 5 mt LNG was not discussed during the recent high-level meeting between the two countries in Tehran.
