Provision of Harbor Tugs, Port of Mesaieed
Nakilat, on behalf of Nakilat–Damen Shipyards Qatar (N-DSQ) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Qatar Petroleum for the provision of 19 vessels including harbor tugs, pilot and service boats at the port of Mesaieed. On October 15 2009, Qatar Petroleum’s Directorate, Mesaieed Industrial City, issued a tender for the provision of harbor tugs, pilot and service boats at Mesaieed Port. Subject to the outcome of the tender, the successful bidder will be obliged to build all the vessels required for the contract at the N-DSQ facilities at the Port of Ras Laffan. Qatar Gas Transport to Add to Fleet
According to Forbes, Qatar Gas Transport Co said it will lease 10 South Korean-built liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, bringing the size of its carrier fleet to 16. The company said it signed a contract with Qatar Liquefied Gas Co to acquire seven QFlex carriers and three 'QMax' carriers on 25-year lease. The 10 vessels, which will be constructed by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, Hyundai Heavy Industries and Samsung Heavy Industries, will enter service in January 2009, QGTC managing director Muhammad Ghannam said in the statement. Although the value of the contract was not specified, QGTC chairman Faisal al-Suwaidi said in May the company intends to invest a total of $16b to have a fleet of 61 carriers by 2010.
Qatar Orders $3b of LNG Tankers
Qatar Gas Transport Co ordered $3b of natural LNG from South Korean companies including Hyundai Heavy Industries as the state prepares to triple exports of the fuel. Qatar Gas, the second-largest energy company on the Morgan Stanley Capital International Gulf Countries Index, ordered the 10 tankers for delivery in 2009, Muhammad Ghannam, the company's managing director said in Doha. Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and Samsung Heavy Industries are the other companies that won the order. Qatar Gas, or Nakilat as it is also known, will lease the vessels for 25 years. Qatar, the world's third-largest holder of natural gas reserves, is developing projects to triple exports of the fuel to 77 million tonnes a year as early as 2010, from a projected 25 million tonnes this year.
