Rolls-Royce Bags £12 mi Order from Myklebusthaug Management

Rolls-Royce has won a £12 million order to provide design, integrated power and propulsion systems and equipment for a highly advanced multipurpose service vessel for the Norwegian ship owner Myklebusthaug Management to be built at the Beşiktaş Shipyard in Turkey. This latest contract will see the first UT design vessel to be built by a Turkish shipyard. Around 800 Rolls-Royce UT vessels have been built or are under construction since the first one entered service 40 years ago. The vessel is a brand new design type from Rolls-Royce. The UT 7521 WP will be prepared for a range of offshore duties. The overall length of the vessel will be 98.9 metres with a beam of 21 metres and deadweight of approx. 6000 tons.

ABB Systems Onboard Three Nor-Shipping Award Nominees

ABB, a power and automation technology group, ponted out that it has systems onboard three out of the four ships shortlisted for Nor-Shipping’s prestigious Energy Efficiency Award. The Energy Efficiency Award will be presented to the ship considered to have made the greatest contribution towards energy efficiency. Viking Grace, the world first LNG-fuelled large passenger ship, owned by Viking Line, who chose ABB to supply the complete electrical power plant and propulsion system together with energy management system -- EMMA, which is a part of ABB’s advisory suite within its vessel information and control solutions (VICO). EMMA helps to manage energy-related processes, practices and decisions on the new ferry to use fuel more efficiently during operation.

Parat Halvorsen Awarded Boiler Plant Contract

Parat Halvorsen has been awarded a new boiler plant contract by Kleven Maritime. The ship will be built at Kleven Verft AS, NB 357, and is of Marine Teknikk design MT 6015, which is a combined Platform Supply- and Sub Sea construction vessel. The ship will be delivered to the owner, Myklebusthaug Management, in February, 2013. The Parat boiler plant consists of an electric 1250kW boiler, including heat recovery exchangers for various water consumers, and a complete system, including steam injection lances for ORO/OSR mobilization, which is a necessary part to meet and satisfy NOFO’s demands and regulations. The boiler will be powered on direct current voltage and not alternating current, which has been the standard solution.

Breakthrough order for DC technology

ABB wins order to install the first ever DC-based electric solution for a vessel. The Onboard DC Grid will allow vessels to cut fuel consumption and emissions by up to 20 percent. ABB, a power and automation technology group, has won an order from ship owner Myklebusthaug Management to supply the first ever direct current (DC) power grid on board a ship. The equipment will allow a new offshore platform support vessel, under construction in Norway, to operate at the highest energy efficiency level to minimize emissions.

ABB: Onboard DC Grid Breakthrough

ABB secured a first order for its Onboard DC Grid concept, which was launched in May 2011. The company is to equip a newbuild Platform Support Vessel (PSV), ordered by the Norwegian owner Myklebusthaug Management from the Kleven shipyard in Ulsteinvik, Norway, with a full Onboard DC Grid system, including all power, propulsion and automation systems. The 93m long, 4,800gt type MT 6015 PSV, a multipurpose oil field supply and construction vessel designed by fellow Norwegian company, Marin Teknikk, is due for delivery in the first quarter of 2013. Heikki Soljama, head of ABB’s business unit marine and cranes, says: “Myklebusthaug was keen to build an innovative vessel that was ready to accept future energy saving solutions, including energy storage and renewable energy sources.
