Safely, efficiently lifting and handling increasingly heavy loads takes a hefty dose of the latest heavy lift products and systems. Rolls-Royce is a ubiquitous and growing force in all matters maritime, inching toward the one-stop-shop premise. It is particularly well known in the deck machinery sector, and it recently signed a deal with Detroit Chile SA to supply offshore cranes to nine PSVs under construction at Detroit Brasil Ltda. shipyard, in Itajaì, Brazil. The order includes nine ship sets of the dual draglink crane, making 18 cranes in total.

MacGregor has secured a winch package contract from Nam Cheong Limited group, a global offshore marine player listed on the Main Board of the Singapore Exchange Securities Trading Limited and Malaysia's largest offshore support vessel builder. Eight-point MacGregor mooring systems, with a 150-metric-ton line pull/270-metric-ton brake holding capacity, tugger winches and capstans have been specified for two new 500-men accommodation work barges being built at the yard. An option remains for two more barges. The 123-meter barges are scheduled for delivery in 2016.

Nam Cheong Limited a leading global offshore marine player listed on the Main Board of the Singapore Exchange Securities Trading Limited and Malaysia’s largest Offshore Support Vessel builder, today announced that it has sold two Accommodation Work Barges (“AWB”) worth approximately US$84 million (approximately S$105 million)  with the option to purchase another two vessels, to a repeat customer, Bursa-listed Perdana Petroleum Berhad (“Perdana”). In July last year, Nam Cheong sold one AWB of a smaller size, to Perdana, an established, major offshore marine services provider for the oil and gas industry in Malaysia and the Southeast Asian region.

Rolls-Royce will supply Petrobras with advanced maintenance and repair services to support fifteen Rolls-Royce RB211-G62 industrial gas turbine power generation units which are installed on four Petrobras oil platforms operating in the petroleum rich, pre-salt Campos Basin. The four Petrobras platforms, which together can produce over 500,000 barrels of oil per day, or 25 per cent of Brazil's entire output, are reliant on nearly 375MW of Rolls-Royce generated power to maintain a consistently high production output.

Nam Cheong International secured sale contracts for an Anchor Handling Towing Supply (AHTS) and four Platform Supply Vessels ( PSV's). The total value of the contracts is $110 million. The 12,000 brake horsepower (bhp) AHTS vessel was sold to a new customer in Indonesia, and the four PSVs were sold to an existing customer, a leading oilfield services company based in Asia. These five vessels are all of American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) class and are being constructed as part of the Group’s build-to-stock series in two of its subcontracted yards in China. They are scheduled for delivery between the second quarter of 2013 and the first quarter of 2014. Nam Cheong says that with these contracts its order book stand at about RM1.7-billion to date.

Wärtsilä awarded a major contract to design a series of four multi-purpose platform support vessels (MPSVs) for Malaysian owner. The contract has been placed by Bumi Armada Berhad, a Malaysian-based international offshore oilfield services provider and also the largest owner and operator of offshore support vessels in Malaysia. Wärtsilä will also supply a comprehensive solutions package for each of the vessels. Sentinel Marine orders four multi-role offshore support Emergency Response and Rescue Vessels ERRV’s from Nam Cheong. The new vessels will feature Dynamic Positioning systems, redundancy of propulsion and thruster systems, cargo carrying capabilities and advanced rescue and recovery equipment. Designed to work in the North Sea; one of the harshest environments in the world, particular attention has been placed on sea-keeping, crew comfort and fuel efficiency. The vessels will deliver through Q3&Q4 2014 and there are options for a further four vessels included in the contract. With offices in Aberdeen, Scotland, and Singapore, Sentinel Marine presently has 2 AHTS and 5 PSV’s on order in addition to this latest order.

Nam Cheong, Malaysia’s largest Offshore Support Vessel (OSV) builder, ends year with record number of sales. Sales of the Platform Support Vessel (PSV) and the two Anchor Handling Towing Supply Vessels (AHTS) are worth a total of US$  56.4-million, bringing the total number of vessels sold this year to 21. The PSV and AHTS vessels are being constructed as part of Nam Cheong's build-to-stock series in one of its subcontracted yards in China. The 5,000 dead weight tonne PSV has been sold to a new customer, one of the major marine services providers to the offshore oil and gas industry in the Asia Pacific region. The two 5,150 brake horsepower AHTS vessels have been sold to Icon Offshore Berhad (“Icon Offshore”), which is one of Malaysia’s largest OSV groups.

A series of new MacGregor offshore winch orders, secured in October, will serve the strong demand for maintenance, hook-up and commissioning services for existing oil platforms within the shallow water region of the Malay basin, says Francis Wong, Director, Segment Sales and Marketing, Offshore. "As oil prices remain high and oil majors continue to invest in exploration and production activities in the region, this has continued to boost the demand for new businesses relating to these services," explains Mr Wong. "Consequently, maintenance work boats and barges are in high demand to serve the needs of the area's oil platforms, many of which are operated by Petronas and Shell.

Sentinel sell new-build Anchor Handling Towing & Supply vessels AHTS 5150;  order two more AHTS from Nam Cheong Dockyard. Buyers of the AHTS 5150, Hull SK 67, have requested the details of the sale to remain private. The newly ordered AHTS vessels will be built in Fujian South East Shipyard, China, with deliveries between Q3 – Q4 2013. These AHTS vessels are based on the proven Khiam Chuan Marine design, with the added stern thruster providing improved station keeping. The company has its roots in a Company called Nomis Shipping, which was established in 1989. Based in Aberdeen, Scotland. In its early days the company was engaged in owning and managing a fleet of Emergency Response & Rescue Vessels (ERRV).

Nam Cheong, Malaysia's largest OSV builder, secures sales contracts worth US$2.1-million with West African buyers. The two PSVs are being built as part of the Group’s built-to-stock series in two of Nam Cheong’s subcontracted yards in China. One of the vessels is a 3,000 dwt PSV that is 75 metres long and the other is a 5,000 dwt PSV that is 87 metres long. Both are ABS Class vessels and equipped with Dynamic Positioning 2 system. The vessels are scheduled for delivery in first quarter of 2013. Mr Leong Seng Keat, Nam Cheong’s Executive Director, said: “With this collective win, we continue our winning streak this second half of the year. Sales of the two PSVs to our new customers in West Africa have effectively expanded Nam Cheong’s footprint in the region.

Shipbuilder Nam Cheong Group wins order from Perdana Petroleum Berhad to build two Accommodation Work Barges (AWB). The contracts are worth worth a total of US$59- million and came from  Perdana Petroleum Berhad (“Perdana”), an established, major offshore marine services provider for the oil and gas industry in Malaysia and the Southeast Asian region. The AWBs, scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2013, are being built as part of the Group’s built-to-stock series in one of Nam Cheong’s subcontracted yards in China. The 100 metre-long vessels will have the capacity to accommodate 300 men and will be equipped with an 8-point mooring system and a 300-tonne crane. They are both ABS Class vessels.

Malaysia's Nam Cheong wins contracts for a Platform Support Vessel (PSV) & two Anchor Handling Towing Supply (AHTS) vessels. The total value of the contracts is worth US$43.81-million, and the vessels are scheduled for delivery between fourth quarter of 2012 and first quarter of 2013. The 3,000 dead weight tonne (“dwt”) PSV represents penetration of a new market for Nam Cheong, as the vessel was sold to a new customer – an emerging offshore marine services and construction company based in West Africa. The ABS Classed PSV is 75 metres long and equipped with a Dynamic Positioning 2 system. One 5,150 brake horsepower (“bhp”) AHTS vessels is for  a Norwegian-based customer that will own, operate and manage the vessels under a long-term charter contract with Petrobras.

Malaysia-based offshore oil field services provider, Bumi Armada Berhad (“Bumi Armada”), announce  its newbuild programme, ’Steel on Water 2’ Bumi Armada Berhad has issued a Letter of Intent (“LOI”) for four Multi-Purpose Platform Support Vessels (“MPSV”), with an option to build four additional units. This newbuild programme follows fast on the heels of the company’s ‘Steel on Water 1 Programme’ of 20 newbuilds which were all successfully delivered by 2010. The LOI was issued by Bumi Armada Bhd, to Nam Cheong Dockyard Sdn Bhd for the construction of the first four diesel-electric propulsion system, DP2″ MPSVs. The four MPSVs will cost approximately USD 130 million (excluding owner furnished equipment) and are expected to be delivered in the second quarter of 2014.

The ships are being built in several shipyards in China for delivery throughout 2013 and 2014 to Coastal Offshore, Nam Cheong, Ezion Holding and Middle East interests. Cargotec is supplying anchor-handling/towing solutions for two 59m anchor-handling tug/supply vessels, a 56.2m anchor-handling tug, and five 50m towing/utility vessels. Positioning mooring solutions are destined for two 100m/300-person accommodation/work barges, two 85m subsea maintenance/work support vessels, a 60m diving support vessel and two 105m subsea operation vessels. “Most of the system components are established designs, and we have combined them to meet the needs of a particular ship type,” said Francis Wong, Cargotec’s sales director for offshore winch solution.

Wärtsilä, the marine industry's leading solutions provider, has signed a contract with Nam Cheong Dockyard of Miri, Malaysia, which will build a Wärtsilä Ship Design (WSD) multi-purpose platform supply vessel (MPSV). This WSD 800 MPSV is the first in a new series of Wärtsilä designs being marketed as a total solution, including all relevant systems as well as the ship design. Raytheon Anschuetz Singapore Pte Ltd. has been awarded a contract about the supply of an Integrated Bridge and Navigation System to a new Platform Supply Ship (PSV) built at Nam Cheong Dockyard of Malaysia. The delivery will take place Q3 2012. The 79 meters long, DNV classed vessel will be equipped with a Raytheon Anschütz Integrated Bridge System, projected and supplied by Raytheon Anschuetz Singapore. At the 150th Annual Meeting of the Members of ABS, three industry leaders were elected to the ABS Council. Following the Annual Meeting, the ABS Council met and elected industry leaders to both its Marine and Offshore Technical Committees.
