Kirby Closes Acquisition of Higman Marine

Kirby Corporation has announced the completion of the acquisition of Higman Marine, Inc. and its affiliated companies (“Higman”), an operator of tank barges and towboats participating in the inland tank barge transportation industry in the United States. The total value of the transaction was approximately $419 million in cash before post-closing adjustments and transaction fees. issuance of senior notes, which closed on February 12, 2018. The new senior notes provided for $500 million in fixed rate debt at 4.2% with a 10-year maturity on March 1, 2028. The unused balance of the senior notes will be used for general corporate purposes.

Kirby To Buy Higman Marine

Kirby Corporation announced the signing of a definitive agreement to acquire Higman Marine, Inc. and its affiliated companies (“Higman”), for approximately $419 million in cash, subject to certain closing adjustments. The purchase will be financed through additional borrowings. Higman’s marine transportation fleet consists of 159 inland tank barges with 4.8 million barrels of capacity, and 75 inland towboats. Higman’s fleet moves petrochemicals, refined petroleum products, crude oil, natural gas condensate, and black oil on the Mississippi River System and Gulf Intracoastal Waterway for large midstream and global integrated oil companies. The closing of the acquisition is expected to occur in the first quarter and is subject to customary closing conditions.

Trelleborg Suite Supplied to Prelude FLNG

Trelleborg’s marine systems operation has supplied a suite of products to Shell’s Prelude FLNG facility, the largest offshore facility ever constructed. Prelude, which is 488 meters long, 74 meters wide, and made with more than 260,000 tons of steel, will extract and liquefy natural gas from a site in North West Australia. Qatar to Boost LNG Production by 30% Amid Arab Dispute

State-owned Qatar Petroleum said Tuesday it aims to raise Qatar’s LNG production from 77 million to 100 million tons per year. The new additional volumes will be secured by doubling the size of the new gas project in the southern sector of the North Field, which Qatar Petroleum had announced last April. This will increase the North Field’s production of natural gas, condensate and other associated products by one million barrels of oil equivalent per day. The announcement was made by Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the President & CEO of Qatar Petroleum, who said: “Last April, we announced our intention to develop a new gas project in the southern sector of the North Field that can be targeted for export.

Barge Breakaway on Ohio River

The U.S. Coast Guard is responding to a report of a barge breakaway at the Racine Lock and Dam on the Ohio River near Huntington, W.Va., Thursday. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Ohio Valley received a report that UTV Austin C. Settoon, pushing three barges loaded with approximately 3,780,000 gallons of natural gas condensate, allided with the lock wall at approximately 5:30 a.m. The barges subsequently broke away. One barge is contained in the lock while the remaining two barges are pinned against gates seven and eight of the dam, with the vessel pinned against gates six and seven. The Racine Lock and Dam is closed, creating a queue of 13 upbound vessels and 11 downbound vessels.

ExxonMobil Starts Production at Point Thomson

ExxonMobil said today it has started production at its Point Thomson project, the first company-operated project on Alaska’s North Slope. Central pad facilities are designed to initially produce about 5,000 barrels per day of condensate and 100 million standard cubic feet per day of recycled gas. The recycled gas is re-injected for future recovery. At full rate production, the facility is designed to produce up to 10,000 barrels per day of natural gas condensate and 200 million cubic feet of recycled gas. It is anticipated to reach that level when the west pad well is online in a few months. The Point Thomson reservoir holds an estimated 8 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and associated condensate – a high-quality hydrocarbon similar to kerosene or diesel.

Kirby Corp. Order Additional 29 Large Tank Barges

Kirby Corporation, based in Houston, Texas, the nation's largest domestic tank barge operator, informs it has signed agreements for the construction of 29 additional 30,000 barrel inland tank barges with a total capacity of 830,000 barrels for delivery throughout 2014. Of the 29 inland tank barges, 18 are through the assumption of shipyard construction contracts from another inland tank barge operator and 11 are new orders placed by Kirby. Based on current commitments, steel prices and projected delivery schedules, the cost of the 29 inland tank barges is approximately $81 million.

Kirby to Order New Articulated Tank Barge, Tugboat, Pair

Kirby Corporation says it is to construct an articulated 185,000 barrel tank barge and 10,000 horsepower tugboat unit (ATB unit) at a cost of $75 to $80 million for charter to a customer when completed. Texas – Barge Hits Well Head

Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Port Arthur has responded to a report of a tug and barge that struck an inactive production well-head in Sabine Lake during the early hours of Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008. The well-head pipe was broken off approximately six feet above the water line and is releasing natural gas, condensate, and water. Although there are no threats to the public onshore, there is a light sheen in the area and the Coast Guard encourages marine traffic to stay clear. Results from an over flight conducted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and Coast Guard indicate no shoreline impacts in either Texas or Louisiana at this time. Initial reports suggest that there was no damage to the tug and barge.

Willbros Announces New Contracts, Sale of Opal Facility

Willbros Group, Inc. announced that business units in Canada, the United States, the Middle East and West Africa have been awarded multiple projects valued in excess of $175 million. Willbros MSI Canada Inc. (Willbros Canada) has been awarded a contract for the fabrication of process modules by Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL). The modules will be fabricated in Edmonton, Alberta at Willbros Canada's new 90,000 square foot fabrication facility which was readied for service over the past year. The contract will run through the third quarter of 2006 and anticipates the follow-on services to erect, install and commission the modules at CNRL's Horizon Oil Sands Project.
