FERC Approves Plaquemines LNG Facility

The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has approved the construction of Venture Global's proposed $8.5 billion Plaquemines liquefied natural gas export facility in Louisiana. Venture Global LNG to build an LNG Plaquemines export terminal and a gas pipeline between the terminal and the interstate gas network.PGNiG will receive liquefied natural gas from this terminal from 2023.“We congratulate our American partners from Venture Global LNG for obtaining the final FERC approval for the construction of the second natural gas liquefaction facility. We are particularly pleased with such precise implementation of the assumed schedule of both investments by Venture Global LNG.

Saudi Aramco to Buy LNG from US

Saudi Arabia’s state owned oil company Saudi Aramco will buy 5 million tons of liquid natural gas per year(LNG) from the U.S. company Sempra Energy, based in San Diego under a 20 year agreement.The heads of agreement (HOA) between the companies anticipates the negotiation and finalization of a definitive 20-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) sale-and-purchase agreement (SPA) for five million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of LNG offtake from Phase 1 of the Port Arthur LNG export-project under development. It also includes the negotiation and finalization of a 25% equity investment in Phase 1 of Port Arthur LNG.Amin Nasser, Saudi Aramco’s CEO & President, said,“The agreement with Sempra LNG is a major step forward in Saudi Aramco’s long term strategy to become a leading global LNG player.

Peru Resumes LNG Exports after Pipeline Rupture

Peru has exported its first shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in three weeks after a pipeline rupture in the jungle disrupted production, the state energy agency Perupetro said on Tuesday. The ship Barcelona Knutsen departed Peru for South Korea on Monday with 170,999 cubic meters (6,038,772 cubic feet) of fuel from the Pampa Melchorita plant, which is operated by the consortium Peru LNG, Perupetro said in a report. U.S.-based Hunt Oil has a 40 percent stake in Peru LNG. Royal Dutch Shell Plc, Japan's Marubeni Corp and other companies have smaller stakes in the consortium.

Dominion Starts Cove Point LNG Production

Dominion Energy Cove Point (DECP) has begun producing liquefied natural gas with its newly constructed natural gas liquefaction facility undergoing commissioning in Lusby, MD. All major equipment has been operated and is being commissioned as expected following a comprehensive round of testing and quality assurance activities. Shell NA LNG is providing the natural gas needed for liquefaction during the commissioning process and will off-take by ship the LNG that is produced. When commissioning is complete, DECP will produce LNG for ST Cove Point, which is the joint venture of Sumitomo Corporation and Tokyo Gas, and for GGULL, the U.S. affiliate of GAIL (India) LTD under 20-year take-or-pay contracts. DECP's liquefaction facility has a nameplate capacity of 5.25 mtpa of LNG.

Two LNG Carriers Ordered for US Shale Gas Transport

Japanese shipbuilder Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) informs it has received orders for the construction of two next-generation liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers that will primarily carry shale gas produced in North America. The shipbuilding contracts, received through MI LNG Company, Limited, a joint venture between MHI and Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., will see the delivery of one LNG carrier each for two separate joint ventures which Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. has established with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line), respectively. The vessels will be built at MHI's Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery and are both scheduled for completion and delivery in 2018 when they will commence transporting shale gas produced in North America…

Bechtel to Design America's First FLNG

The first U.S.-based  floating liquefied natural gas vessel (FLNGV) moved closer to reality after engineering giant Bechtel agreed to design and engineer the project. Bechtel has been selected by Delfin LNG, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fairwood Peninsula Energy, to perform front-end engineering and design for the floating FLNGV to go into service at Port Delfin. Port Delfin is a proposed deepwater port and floating LNG facility that will be located approximately 50 miles off the coastline of Cameron Parish, Louisiana. Delfin LNG’s project will be the first offshore floating natural gas liquefaction facility in the United States, Bechtel said in a statement on Tuesday.

TOTE Inks LNG Supply Deal

Partnership represents the start of LNG adoption as a marine fuel in the United States. Pivotal LNG, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of AGL Resources Inc., and WesPac Midstream LLC have signed a long-term agreement with TOTE, Inc. to provide liquefied natural gas (LNG) to fuel the company’s two new state-of-the-art containerships. Pivotal LNG and WesPac are constructing a new natural gas liquefaction facility in Jacksonville, Fla., addressing the growing demand for LNG in the southeast.

US Approves LNG Exports from Sempra, Carib Energy Projects

The U.S. Energy Department on Wednesday approved liquefied natural gas exports from two projects, as lawmakers pressed the administration to move quickly to clear a backlog of applications to ship gas abroad. Sempra Energy's Cameron LNG facility in Louisiana and Carib Energy's small-scale export project in Florida are the first projects to receive final permits from the department to export gas to non-free-trade-agreement countries since Cheniere's Sabine Pass project was approved in 2012. Until now Sabine Pass was the only project fully permitted at the federal level. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission granted the $10 billion Cameron project a construction license in June after it was issued a conditional export permit by the Energy Department earlier in the year.

Louisiana LNG Energy Gets Terminal Funding

Louisiana LNG Energy said on Friday it has secured funding for its natural gas liquefaction facility being developed in Louisiana, which is expected to begin operations in late 2017. The company said it has secured funds from an affiliate of ArcLight Capital Partners for the terminal, located south of New Orleans at mile marker 46 along the Mississippi River. The terminal has export capacity of two million tonnes per annum, with deep water access for very large gas carriers (VLGC), the company said. The 'mid-scale' LNG export facility will serve export markets with low cost power generation fuels as well as domestic markets with emissions-compliant fuels as an alternative to diesel fuel. Wison and Black & Veatch to Jointly Pursue Offshore LNG Projects

Shanghai-based Wison Offshore & Marine Ltd., a subsidiary of the Wison Group, announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Black & Veatch to jointly pursue barge-based natural gas liquefaction facility projects on an exclusive basis. Under the agreement, Wison will hold responsibility for barge design and engineering, overall project management, construction, delivery and financing of the integrated facility.
