CRIC Designs Prototype for Collaborative Detailing System

The Chief of Naval Operations' (CNO) Rapid Innovation Cell (CRIC) recently developed a basic prototype for an information system that will promote more collaboration between Sailors and commands during the job detailing process. "Our goal is to build a process that is transparent, flexible and gives more influence to commands, so they can build better teams, as well as to Sailors so they can have more say over their lives," said Lt. Cmdr. Mike Mabrey, CRIC project lead. Their clickable prototype represents the progress achieved after a two-day workshop with digital-services consulting group 18F, who strive to bring the best practices from top tech companies and startups to government systems.

Naval Symposium Examines Ship Capabilities, Career Options

The annual Surface Navy Association (SNA) West Coast Symposium was held on the waterfront at Naval Station San Diego on July 16, and provided attendees an update on some key operational and career developments important to the surface warfare community. Capt. Mark Johnson, president of the SNA San Diego Chapter, was the host and master of ceremonies for the symposium. Capt. Warren Buller, commander of LCS Squadron 1, provided a comprehensive update on the LCS program, to include a detailed summary of the status of mission package development.

Galinis Commands NAVSEA's SUPSHIP Gulf Coast

Capt. William J. Galinis relieved Capt. Mary E. Dexter as commanding officer of the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) field activity, Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SUPSHIP), Conversion and Repair, Gulf Coast, Sept. 18 in a ceremony in Pascagoula, Miss. Retired Rear Adm. Mark Hugel gave the ceremony's keynote address. NAVSEA Commander, Vice Adm. Kevin McCoy spoke about how SUPSHIP Gulf Coast has made an invaluable impact on the Navy's ability to build the Fleet. "(Dexter) led this team of more than 350 military and civilian employees in providing the engineering, quality assurance, contract management, and financial services in partnership with industry to build our 21st century Navy," said McCoy.
