Hybrid Tanker Tern Island to Operate Emissions-free in Gothenburg

NEOT Gets First LNG Bunkering from Kairos

Nauticor-operated LNG bunker supply vessel Kairos completed the first LNG bunkering operation in the port of Södertälje, Sweden, delivering 150 tons of LNG.Finnish North European Oil Trade (NEOT)  was the first company to bunker LNG from the Kairos vessel.During the operation, 150 tons of LNG were bunkered from “Kairos” to “Ternsund” at the port’s oil terminal.Åsa Boström, Controller at the Port of Södertälje, stated, “The first LNG bunker operation was a huge success and the cooperation between the terminal and port operators, the crews on board of the LNG bunker vessel and the receiving vessel went very well. Establishing alternative fuels in the port fits perfectly well into our overall strategy to minimize environmental impact and emissions.

Swedegas Renewable Gas Bunkering at Gothenburg Port

Swedegas, the owner of the gas grid in Sweden, conducted the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering operation at its new facility at the Port of Gothenburg.Gothenburg-based shipping company Terntank was the very first operator to take on  LNG at a new bunkering facility, said the Swedish owner and operator of the high-pressure gas grid.Not only liquefied natural gas, LNG, but also liquefied biogas, LBG, it added.“Being able to offer this unique opportunity represents a major breakthrough, not only in facilitating the transition to LNG, but also in gradually increasing the proportion of renewable gas,” said Johan Zettergren, Chief Executive of Swedegas, which owns and runs the facility.The facility is the only one of its kind in Sweden, it claimed.

The bunkering of the Ternsund was initiated today in Rotterdam, marking the first seagoing vessel to bunker liquefied natural gas (LNG) at the port. As a result the brand new product tanker of the Swedish shipping company Terntank also receives the first Rotterdam 'LNG bunkering incentive’; a premium amounting to a discount of 10 percent on the seaport dues. Terntank's first 15000DWT Chemical Tanker Passes Sea Trials

The first dual-fuel two-stroke engine employing the low-pressure X-DF gas admission technology developed by Winterthur Gas & Diesel (WinGD) has passed the final milestone in its evolution from a technical concept to commercial operation as a marine main engine. The 5-cylinder, 500 mm bore, Wärtsilä RT-flex50DF engine employing X-DF technology is installed as the main engine driving a single propeller in the Ternsund, a low emissions 15,000 DWT chemical tanker. Terntank Orders 2 More LNG Fueled Tankers

Terntank proclaims its options on two sister ships to the two LNG powered product tankers ordered in the autumn of 2013. The oil company NEOT also confirmed that they are taking in two of these on time charter. Terntank Rederi AS now has four LNG powered 15,000 dwt product tankers on order at the Chinese shipyard Avic Dingheng Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. The ships will be delivered at three-month intervals so that the first one will be delivered in the spring of 2016 and the fourth in the beginning of 2017. Terntank elected to declare its two options because there is considered to be a demand for energy efficient and environmentally adapted tanker tonnage.
