APM Terminals Poti to Build Cargo Terminal
APM Terminals Poti and Poti New Terminals Consortium signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a USD 100 million dollar investment in a new bulk cargo terminal that can process 1.5 million tons of dry bulk cargo annually and generate new trade opportunities for customers in the Georgian transit corridor. The new terminal is expected to be built on APM Terminals Poti land and infrastructure and will entail the construction, development and operation of a new breakwater, dry bulk cargo terminal and related infrastructure to serve bulk cargo customers.
Bahri Dry Bulk Secures Newbuild Finance
Bahri Dry Bulk, a business unit of global transportation and logistics leader Bahri, has announced that it has secured a Sharia-compliant funding of SAR 360 million (USD 96mln) from Bank Albilad, one of the fast-growing banks in Saudi Arabia. The fund is to finance the purchase of four new bulk carriers as part of an agreement signed by the company in 2017 with Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD), a member of Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Group, the world’s largest shipbuilding company based in South Korea.
Wave of New Bulk Carriers Expected to Upset Freight Rates
Some shipping brokers expect spot freight rates for Panamax bulk carriers to decline next spring when a large number of new bulk carriers enter service. About 100 newly built bulk carriers with cargo capacities of 50,000 to 80,000 tons are to be delivered in 2001, up from about 70 vessels this year, possibly causing rates to fall, the brokers said. Spot rates for Panamax bulk carriers for the U.S. Gulf/Japan route have recently risen to three-and-a-half year highs. Japanese shipbuilders have landed a large proportion of orders to build those bulk carriers, which now constitute the largest and most important category of ships built in Japan.

Taizhou Sanfu Ship Engineering Co. launch a 92,500 dwt bulk carrier for Indian owners The builders say that this was the first PSPC compliant vessel ever built in their yard (referring to IMO's 'Performance Standard for Protective Coatings) which applies to dedicated seawater ballast tanks in all types of ships and double-side skin spaces of bulk carriers. Cosco Shipyard Gets New Orders
Cosco has secured new shipbuilding contracts for its shipyard in Zhoushan, China, ChannelNewsAsia.com reported. One of the contracts is to build 12 new bulk carriers of 57,000 dead weight tons each. A second contract is for four pure car and truck carriers that can carry 5,000 vehicles each. They were awarded by a sister company, Cosco International Ship Trading. The ships are to be delivered between December next year and October 2009.

OSM Maritime Awarded Three Ship Management Contracts
Laurel Ace is a new bulk carrier, built in 2013 at the I-S shipyard in Japan. The vessel was successfully taken over in Japan on the 3rd of July by Capt. Song (OSM Hong Kong), and will sail with Chinese crew. This ship has a length of 161 meters, a breadth of 27 meters, gross tonnage of 17,019 tons and a deadweight of 28,397 MT. Secondly, OSM Maritime Group has been awarded the ship management of the DP-2 Dive Support Vessel Adessa Ocean King, and the ship will be operated by the OSM office in Singapore. The vessel was built in 1989, has a length of 90 meters and the breadth is 20 meters.
Premuda To Use $30M Bond To Buy Ships
Italian shipping company Premuda SpA has completed a $30.9 million bond issue in order to acquire more ships. The bond issue will give Premuda greater liquidity and allow it to acquire further bulk ships following a significant upward trend in dry cargo shipping markets, company officials said. Premuda officials said the company's affiliate, United Bulk International, recently acquired two 1993-built Panamax bulk carriers for about $26.7 million. The bonds will mature in five years and are limited to existing shareholders. The new bulk carriers, due to be delivered in the next few weeks, will take the group's fleet to 20 vessels including four oil tankers being built in Korea for delivery in 2001.

COSCO (Zhoushan) Shipyard Co., Ltd has delivered a bulk carrier of 57,000 dwt, “OCEAN LOVE”, to its European buyer. This ship measures 189.99 meters in LOA and 32.26 meters in breadth. 2. COSCO (Dalian) Shipyard Co., Ltd has delivered a bulk carrier of 82,000 dwt, “XIN TANG SHAN HAI 1”, to its Chinese buyer. This new bulk carrier measures 229 meters in LOA and 32.26 meters in breadth. The company stattes that the delivery documents were signed by and between COSCO shipyards and the respective buyers recently.

Solar Solve Wins Orders from Two Japanese Shipbuilders
At the beginning of June South Shields based Solar Solve Marine dispatched a consignment of 16 SOLASAFE anti-glare roller sunshades to their distributor based in Osaka for installation at the wheelhouse windows of two new bulk carriers being built in Japan. Oshima Shipbuilding Co. are finishing off a Handymax Bulker, Hull No. 10705, at their Nagasaki yard for delivery next month. Currently both the name of the 55,116 dwt vessel and the owner have not been made public but the vessel will be delivered with 13 roller sunscreens from the SOLASOLV range installed at the navigation bridge windows.
Digital Naming of Stena Immortal
The digital naming of the MR tanker Stena Immortal took place January 18 at Stena's new office in Hellerup in the north of Copenhagen. The 50,000 dwt Stena Immortal was built at the Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI) shipyard in southeast China and is jointly owned on a 50-50 basis by Stena Bulk and Indonesian Golden Agri Resources (GAR). Following her delivery in September 2016, the 183-meter-long tanker has sailed in one of Stena Bulk's global logistics systems, which currently employ some 60 vessels, with a focus on refined petroleum products, vegetable oils and chemicals.
NOC Supplies Italian Bulk Carriers
Northrop Grumman Corporation has been selected to supply the bridge navigation systems for three new bulk carriers being built in China for Italian shipowner Deiulemar Shipping. Each of the ships is to be fitted with the company’s Sperry Marine VisionMaster FT S- and X-band radars, gyrocompass, autopilot, steering control, speed log, echosounder, voyage data recorder and other navigation systems. The equipment is being supplied through Telemar, the sales and service representative for Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine products and systems in Italy. Telemar will oversee the installations and provide technical support and service for the shipboard navigation systems.
China-built, CSL's Fourth New Laker Homeward Bound
The last of Canada Steamship Lines’ (CSL) four newbuild Trillium Class self-unloading Lakers, the 'Baie Comeau', set sail June 30, on her maiden voyage from Chengxi Shipyard in Jiangyin, China, en route to Montreal, Quebec, for service on the Great Lakes & St. Lawrence Seaway. Commanding the Baie Comeau as she crosses the Pacific Ocean and transits through the Panama Canal is Captain Andriy Bondarenko, with Chief Engineer Francis Cotton. She is expected to take approximately 50-60 days to complete her voyage.
Baltic Trading Take Delivery of Capesize, & Charter Out
Baltic Trading Limited has accepted delivery of the first of two new bulk carriers, 'Baltic Tiger', a 179,185 dwt Capesize vessel, and found a time charter for the vessel without delay. The Baltic Tiger delivered to its charterer, Swissmarine Services S.A., has commenced a spot market-related time charter for 10.5 to 13.5 months. The rate for the spot market-related time charter, which is subject to the completion of definitive documentation, is based on 102.75% of the average of the daily rates of the Baltic Capesize Index (BCI) published by the Baltic Exchange, as reflected in daily reports.
China Shipbuilder Hit by Forex Losses on Contracts
Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Holdings Ltd. China’s second-biggest private shipyard, posted a 7.6 percent decline in second-quarter profit because of higher tax and foreign exchange loss on contracts done in euros, reports Bloomberg. Citing a company statement to the Singapore Stock Exchange, Bloomberg say that Net income in the three months ended June dropped to 812 million yuan ($133 million) from 878 million yuan a year ago, while sales rose 12 percent to 4.42 billion yuan.
