Oceans '13 MTS/IEEE San Diego Preview

Heeding the call to join “An Ocean in Common,” authors flooded the Oceans ‘13 MTS/IEEE San Diego technical program committee with a record number of abstracts in a single day. Special topics include an Ultra-deep track discussing current and prospective robotic technologies, plus a panel of scientists to consider research questions. Oceans2013 Chair Bob Wernli, and Co-Chair Kevin Hardy, developer of the unmanned landers for James Cameron’s DeepSea Challenge Expedition, will be the session conveners. “James’ intention is to be certain the door remains open to other explorers,” Hardy said.

Wind, Wave Energy-producing Technology on MREC Test

The UMass Dartmouth-based New England Marine Renewable Energy Center (MREC), and local and regional leaders, will mark the send-off of the barge as part of an effort to transform the region into an international hub of ocean-related energy technology research and development.

Marine Renewable Energy Conference Slated for October

The fourth annual Marine Renewable Energy Technical Conference will be held October 30-31, 2012, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel and Conference Center in Providence/Warwick, Rhode Island. The conference Technical Committee is now accepting extended abstracts  for presentation at the  Conference on topics related to tidal energy, wave energy, offshore wind, ocean currents, ocean thermal energy, and other ways to extract energy from oceans or rivers. Also of interest are engineering and environmental studies which further the sustainable development of marine renewable energy. The accepted abstracts will be made available on the New England MREC web site (www.mrec.umassd.edu) and on flash drives given to each attendee.

Fourth Ocean Energy Conference Set for October

New Bedford, MA - The New England Marine Renewable Energy Center at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, MA, announced that it is holding the 4th Annual New England MREC Technical Conference in Rhode Island on October 30-31, 2012. Moving from Massachusetts to Rhode Island will give the event room to grow. The new venue offers state of the art conference facilities and superb accommodations, which will be attractive and convenient to all participants and attendees. There will be two days of technical presentations on research relating to offshore wind, wave, tide, ocean and river current, environmental monitoring, policy and regulations. A Call for Abstracts will be out soon to solicit topics for presentations and poster sessions from professionals all over the globe.
