GTT to Design LNG Tanks for Korean Shipyard

GTT received at the end of 2017 an order from a South Korean shipyard regarding the design of the LNG tanks of a new LNG carrier. Its delivery is scheduled for the first quarter of 2020. GTT will design the LNG tanks of the unit, allowing for a capacity of 174,000 m3. The insulation solution Mark III Flex has been chosen for its ability to reduce the daily guaranteed Boil-Off gas rate to 0.085% of tank volume. 48 vessels in service already benefit from this technology. The shipowner and shipyard's names are kept confidential at this stage.

Torghatten Nord Names LNG Supplier for Ferry Fleet

Barents NaturGass AS reportedly won a contract to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Torghatten Nord AS for seven new LNG ferries in one of Norway’s busiest waterways, according to a report on www.ngvglobal.com. The contract takes into consideration the full environmental profile of fuel supply and stipulates that trucks delivering fuel to depots must also be LNG-powered. Torghatten Nord signed the largest ferry contract in Norway, to a value of $238m, for ferry traffic across the Western area for 10 years from 2013. The contract requires the construction of four new LNG-powered ferries as well as the conversion of three existing vessels. The first ferry comes in the second quarter of 2012.

Korean Shipbuilders Gain Brunei LNG Carrier Order

Brunei Gas Carriers Sendirian Berhad, BGC has entered into an agreement for the construction of a new LNG Vessel with Hyundai Heavy Industries Limited of the Republic of Korea and arranged financing with both local and international financial institutions. The Minister of Energy at the Prime Minister's Office in his speech said that the signing was important to the country as it signified many other additional achievements and creates new opportunities for Brunei Darussalam's shipping industry and the oil and gas industry as a whole. FERC Approves New LNG Terminal

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved several new natural gas projects, including the construction of a new marine terminal for liquefied natural gas (LNG) and expansion of a previously approved LNG project that will increase and enhance the energy infrastructure in the Gulf Coast region of the United States. The Commission approved a proposal by Corpus Christi LNG, L.P. and Cheniere Corpus Christi Pipeline Company to construct and operate a new LNG terminal and related pipeline facilities near Corpus Christi, Texas. The Commission also approved an amended proposal by Cameron LNG, LLC to expand its facilities in Hackberry, LA to receive larger LNG tankers at its terminal that is currently under construction.

Mariners Learn Get LNG Handling Experience At MSI

Maneuvering trials and Shiphandling training for Guayanilla, Puerto Rico Masters, Pilots and tug Masters were conducted at MarineSafety International's Newport Simulator Center April 17 - 20 and July 5 - 7, 2000. The port of Guayanilla was modeled, including a new LNG terminal to accommodate large, deep draft ships entering the port for the first time. The objectives of the trials were to give the mariners an opportunity to gain experience handling large LNG ships in their restricted harbor. Docking operations were conducted as well at the new LNG facility. Safety margins were assessed under challenging wind conditions and with different tug configurations.

Shell Loads First LNG Vessel at Gate Terminal

Shell loads first LNG vessel, using new LNG fuel infrastructure at Gate terminal. The new LNG fuel infrastructure included the construction of a new berth. This new berth has now started operations. The loading of Shell’s chartered LNG vessel, the Coral Methane happened on September 19th. In July 2014, Shell took the Final Investment Decision to buy capacity at the Gas Access to Europe (Gate) terminal, which enabled the investment in new, dedicated liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel infrastructure. The new LNG fuel infrastructure included the construction of a new berth.

LR Report: 75 New LNG Ships for the U.S.

Lloyd's Register (LR) released the results of its extensive research into the LNG market. Talking at the LNG conference The role of LNG in North American and Caribbean gas supply in Washington D.C., LR said that between 27 and 75 new LNG ships will be needed to meet the demand for LNG over the next decade in the US market alone. Many factors have been considered by LR in its forecast of the LNG market, including consideration of replacement of ageing existing ships, take-up of excess capacity at existing import terminals and a rash of new import terminal projects that are likely to succeed. The US market finds itself short of energy. Gas is the clean burning fuel-of-choice for the electricity-generating plants mooted for construction in the US over the next decade.

Qatargas Gains Two New LNG Vessels

Two new LNG vessels that will join the Qatargas fleet have been handed over to the owners’ consortium by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Ltd (DSME) at its ship building yard in the Geoje Island in South Korea. The vessels Al Ruwais and Al Safliya will now proceed with bunkering and leave South Korea in the next few days. The first cargo will be delivered to Japan using one of these vessels before the year end. Two more vessels are expected to be delivered from other South Korean yards this month. Hoegh LNG Pulls Out of FLNG

Norway's Hoegh LNG Holdings is putting its floating LNG (FLNG) development activities on hold and to allocate all resources and capital to its core business, FSRUs, because this is where the Company sees the highest return on invested capital and the most promising market prospects. The Company's decision is a consequence of the oversupplied LNG market and deteriorating energy and financial markets, which mean that investment decisions for new LNG production facilities, including the FLNG segment, will continue to be challenging for the foreseeable future.

Angola Ships First Offshore LNG Cargo

The first cargo was sold to Angola's state oil & gas company and is currently being shipped to Brazil by the  LNG carrier 'SS Sonangol Sambizanga', one of seven 160,000 m3 LNG vessels that are under long-term charter to the Angola LNG project. Angola LNG, the Soyo-based facility built to create value from Angola's offshore gas resources, confirms that production of liquefied natural gas (LNG) has safely commenced at the Angola LNG plant in Soyo and that its first cargo has been shipped, marking the first new LNG supply to come on-stream since 2010.

LNG Consortium Orders Eight Ships

The joint Iran-India liquefied natural gas consortium, which is yet to be established formally, is to place an order for eight new LNG carriers valued at $1.6 billion as its first step for exports, according to a report on Manoramaonline.com. ChevronTexaco Orders Two LNG Carriers

ChevronTexaco Corp. ordered two LNG carriers from Samsung Heavy Industries of South Korea to support the planned growth in the company’s LNG business. The new LNG carriers will have a capacity of 154,800 cubic meters each. Both carriers will be of membrane-type design and equipped with dual fuel diesel-electric propulsion. The two carriers are planned for delivery in 2009. ChevronTexaco Global Gas President John Gass said: "ChevronTexaco has large holdings of natural gas resources in the Pacific and Atlantic Basins. Gass noted, "It is important that our company invest now to meet the growing demand for energy in the future." He added, "ChevronTexaco is making good progress at securing market access for its LNG supply projects.

Challenging Times Ahead for LNG Shipping

LNG carrier freight rates have come under severe pressure due to rising fleet supply and stabilizing LNG demand, as Japan prepares to restart its nuclear power plants. Despite the general market belief that new LNG supply from Australian projects will provide ample employment to the growing fleet, there are immediate challenges on freight rates. This is due to 49 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of Australian LNG cargo supply expected to hit the market over the next two years, according to the newly launched LNG Forecaster report published by global shipping consultancy Drewry.

DSME, Kongsberg Maritime Join Forces

DSME and Kongsberg Maritime have signed a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) for a new LNG FSRU regasification control system. As part of the delivery scope for a vessel currently under construction at the Okpo shipyard in South Korea, DSME will develop a High Fidelity Dynamic Simulator for the regasification plant. The JDA, which was signed on 29th November 2016, enables DSME to utilise Kongsberg Maritime’s Dynamic Process Simulator ‘K-Spice’ and the ‘K-Chief’ automation and control system for the joint development of the vessel’s regasification control system.

It soon will be easier to import natural gas from fuel tankers, without disruption to shoreline communities and the environment, thanks in part to a new deepwater liquid natural gas (LNG) port approved today by the U.S. Maritime Administration. The LNG port, to be built by El Paso Energy Bridge Gulf of Mexico LLC about 116 miles south of New Orleans in the Gulf of Mexico, is a terminal to process and transfer natural gas received from LNG transport ships to a pipeline system, which will carry the natural gas ashore for distribution to U.S. markets. "This new facility will improve efficiency by eliminating the need for a carrier to come all the way into a shore side port and save money in the process," said U.S. Secretary of Transportation Norman Y. Mineta.

GTT Wins LNG Simulator Order

GTT Training, subsidiary of Gaztransport and Technigaz (GTT), has announced that it has received a contract to supply its G-Sim LNG simulator software to L-3 DPA Inc. and Chevron. The contract involves the development of a new LNG Carrier model based specifically of the new LNG vessels owned and operated by Chevron. KOGAS to Support Korean Shipyards

In a bid to help South Korean local shipyard weather their worst-ever slump, the State-run Korea Gas Corp. (KOGAS), the world's largest LNG importer, will soon place shipbuilding and maintenance orders with them, says a report by Yonhap. KOGAS  will advance the schedule of placing orders for two new LNG carriers to the first half of next year and assign sizable maintenance work for its large LNG carriers to local shipyards, said its president Lee Seung-hoon. The construction of a LNG carrier with a capacity of 3,500 tons normally costs a 150 billion won (US$134 million).

MOL Ink Deal to Build, Charter 300m LNG Carrier

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) inform it has signed a Head of Agreement on joint ownership and 20-year charter contract for a newbuilding LNG carrier with Tokyo LNG Tanker Co., Ltd. At the same time, MOL signed a contract with Japan Marine United Corporation to build the new vessel. The ship is slated for completion in 2017. Shell: LNG Demand Strong to 2030

Shell launches LNG Outlook Global demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) reached 265 million tonnes (MT) in 2016 – enough to supply power to around 500 million homes a year. This included an increase in net LNG imports of 17 MT. Many expected a strong increase in new LNG supplies would outpace demand growth during 2016. Instead, demand growth kept pace with supply as greater than expected demand in Asia and the Middle East absorbed the increase in supply from Australia, according to Shell’s first LNG Outlook. “Global LNG trade demonstrated its flexibility time and again in 2016, responding to shortfalls in national and regional gas supply and to new emerging demand,” said Maarten Wetselaar, Integrated Gas and New Energies Director at Shell.

LNG Drive: Helgoland Leaves Building Dock

After almost nine months of construction has MS "Helgoland" the new LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) ship of Cassen Eils from Cuxhaven, left the building dock of the Fassmer-Werft shipyard. Helgoland will be the first German flagged marine vessel to operate on LNG as its primary fuel. After the testing of systemically important components of the innovative LNG-drive in the port and sea operation will be carried out. Fassmer designed and built the MS Helgoland, Germany’s first passenger ferry with a dual-fuel propulsion system.
