MMS Names New Gulf Director

The federal Mineral Management Service named Lars Herbst the new regional director of the agency’s Gulf of Mexico Outer Continental Shelf Region. Herbst will manage the leasing of OCS lands off five Gulf Coast states for oil, gas and other mineral development. The region includes more than 7,000 leases, which involve more than 4,000 platforms. A staff engineer with MMS since 1983, Herbst has previously served as district manager of the New Orleans district, deputy regional supervisor and regional supervisor of field operations.

Marlink Launches Broadband Global Area Network Service

Marlink today announced that it now offers a full range of Inmarsat services for customers requiring flexible and efficient land mobile communications over satellite. Marlink's new Regional Broadband Global Area Network (Regional BGAN) offers reliable, 24-hour a day Internet Protocol (IP) connectivity at data speeds of up to 144kbps via a secure channel. The service is available in Europe, Asia, and northern and central Africa. The service affords enterprise customers, governments, global and regional businesses, as well as educational facilities the ability to securely extend their corporate networks and access the Internet, via satellite, regardless of the local communications infrastructure.

ISS: New Regional Team & Ops Division

Inchcape Shipping Services has announced its new regional team for Europe and North Africa following the creation of its new operations division. Reflecting ISS’ transition from eight regional profit centers within two hemispheres to four world regions and Japan, the new operations division is charged with delivering operational excellence, providing the very best products and quality of service, standardising work processes and optimising resources and capabilities. The Europe and North Africa operations team is the first of the four regional teams to be announced. Simon Edsall has been appointed as Executive Vice President of Operations Region Europe and North Africa.

ACL Opens Houston Headquarters

American Commercial Lines Inc. (ACL) opened its new Liquid Transportation Division Headquarters in Houston, Texas. The opening of the new regional headquarters, combined with ACL's recent announcement to build 30 new 30,000 barrel tank barges in 2008, begins the foundation for the Company's long-term strategy to increase liquid business from 24% to 40% of its total transportation revenue.

Wireline Engineering Expands Far East Operations

Radio Holland Opens Office in Curaçao

Radio Holland Group will open a new regional branch office in Curaçao which will be in full service by June/July 2003. As the 48th office worldwide, Radio Holland Curaçao will provide service in Curaçao and the Caribbean area focusing on the tankers that supply oil to the various refineries in the region, including the Curacao refinery, the container vessels that visit Curaçao and the other islands in the Caribbean for transshipment, the various cruise vessels that regularly visit the Caribbean and the Dutch Navy base in Curaçao.

Linfoot Named Regional Sales Manager, MOL Canada

MOL Canada Inc. announced that Travis Linfoot will take over as the new regional sales manager, domiciled in Vancouver, B.C. Linfoot will report to Tim Harrington, vice president, Canada and will focus on outside sales functions for Western Canada. Mr. Linfoot studied at British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) in the Forum for International Trade Training (FITT) before joining Gillespie-Munro in 2003. His 11 years in the industry includes operations, management, and commercial responsibilities in Western Canada from within the freight forwarding, NVOCC, and liner business segments.  

MMS Names Cooke Regional Supervisor

Minerals Management Service (MMS) Gulf of Mexico Regional Director Lars Herbst has selected David W. Cooke, Ph.D. as the new Regional Supervisor for Resource Evaluation in the Gulf Region Office. As Regional Supervisor for Resource Evaluation, Dr. Cooke’s responsibilities will include overseeing economic evaluations for lease sales and reserve and resource assessments in the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf (OCS.)   He will manage a staff of 135 geologists, petroleum engineers, geophysicists, and support staff who are responsible for data acquisition and management, economic analysis, resource studies, and environmentally sound oil and gas operations throughout the Gulf OCS Region. OW Bunker New Corporate Strategy

OW Bunker, supplier and traders of marine fuel, announced that it is implementing a new corporate strategy. The process, which will be completed by 2011, will see the implementation of a global business and sales strategy that is devolved from a central function, and delivered and managed across five key regions; Asia, Northern Europe, Central Europe, The Mediterranean and the Middle East and South America. In conjunction with delivering this strategy, OW Bunker is undertaking a recruitment process, which will see the appointment of new Regional Directors, a Global Sales Director, as well as a number of Regional and Global Sales Account Executives. Recruits will come from both within the business, as well as external appointments.

Bimco Opens Office In Singapore

BIMCO has opened a new regional office in Singapore in order to increase services to its members in the Southeast Asia region and boost collaborations with regional maritime associations. BIMCO’s new Singapore contact will be General Manager, Maite Bolivar Klarup, who brings 16 years of commercial maritime experience to the role. The BIMCO office in central Singapore will also be shared with staff from the Baltic Exchange and the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, forming a small ‘hub’ of maritime organisations in the area.

Drew Names Medved Regional Sales Manager

Thuraya Expands into Singapore

In an effort to grow its business in the Asia Pacific region, Thuraya has unveiled a new regional office in Singapore and named Bilal Hamoui Regional Director for Asia. The company also plans on assembling a full team to cover the Asia region out of Singapore. Senate Passes GreenLane Port Security Legislation

The Senate passed the cargo security legislation authored by U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) that is aimed to improve the security of America 's ports and cargo container system. Murray 's bill passed by a vote of 98-0. Senator Murray has spearheaded the effort to protect America 's ports since the terrorist attacks of September 11th. She spent the past week on the Senate floor managing debate on her bill. The bipartisan bill, which Murray introduced with Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) – raises security standards for all cargo entering the U.S. , creates a GreenLane to track and monitor cargo, creates a system to resume trade after an incident, and funds port security grants.

Ingemanson New President of Volvo Penta

Björn Ingemanson, 53, has been appointed new President of Volvo Penta. Ingemanson is currently President of Volvo Trucks’ International Division and will assume his new position on April 1, 2012, when he will succeed the current President Göran Gummeson, who will retire next year. Ingemanson has a long history at the Volvo Group and his past positions include CFO of Volvo Trucks and European head of the Group’s customer financing company, Volvo Financial Services. Volvo Penta’s current President Göran Gummeson, who turns 65 in February, will remain as President until March 31, 2012.

Maersk Line Asia Pacific Appoints Gray

Maersk Line announced the appointment of Katie Gray as the new Regional Process Excellence Manager for the Asia Pacific region. Katie will be overall responsible for driving a portfolio of Process Excellence (PEX) strategies, initiatives and plans through effective end-to-end project and change management. Katie assumes her new role with immediate effect and is based in Singapore, reporting to Jesper Praestensgaard, Chief Executive of Maersk Line Asia Pacific. Katie joined Maersk Line in 1994, holding various positions in the United Kingdom and Copenhagen.

New SENER Directors for Asia and Pacific

Globe Wireless Granted Japan License

Globe Wireless Granted Blanket Wireless Radio Station License by the Japanese Ministry of Information and Communications. Globe Wireless, a  leading provider of communications, operational and IT solutions to the maritime industry, today announced it has been granted a Blanket Wireless Radio Station License by the Japanese Ministry of Information and Communications. This license authorizes Globe Wireless to offer Inmarsat FleetBroadband mobile satellite communications services in Japan and on Japanese registered vessels.

WSS Appoints Romanet GM for Belgium

Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) appointed Romaine Romanet as new General Manager for Belgium. Ms. Romanet brings many years’ experience from a number of multinational businesses in the areas of operation, finance, business development, change project management and people development. Ms. Romanet was formerly part of the senior management team at CMA CGM Group with responsibility for the development and administrative control of European agencies. Prior to this, Ms. Romanet worked for 15 years with the SGS Group (testing, inspection and certification) as Country Chief Executive in the U.K.

Dampier, Hedland Port Authorities to Merge

From July 1, 2014, Dampier Port Authority will be merged with Port Hedland Port Authority to form a new body named Pilbara Ports Authority, GAC reported in its daily hot news report. The Western Australian Government recently passed the Ports Legislation Amendment Bill 2013, introducing structural reforms to its statutory port authorities. The main thurst of the reforms is that, with the exception of Fremantle Port, port authorities will be merged or renamed to create four new regional port authorities: Mid West, Southern, Kimberley and Pilbara. The first to be created, Pilbara Ports Authority, will control and manage the ports of Ashburton, Dampier and Port Hedland. pilbaraports.com.au  

Rolls-Royce Sets Up MTU Middle East Subsidiary

Rolls-Royce has set up MTU Middle East as a new regional sales and service subsidiary with head office in Dubai to support distributors and business partners of MTU, MTU Onsite Energy and Bergen Engines in 21 countries in the Middle East and North Africa. In this region, high-speed and medium-speed large diesel and gas engines, drive systems and on-site power generation systems are mainly deployed in electrical power generation, the oil and gas industry, and to drive trains and agricultural machinery. Germanischer Lloyd Appoints New RM in Malaysia

The new Regional Manager for the Industrial Services of Germanischer Lloyd in East Asia is Bruno Solinas. His primary mission will be to intensify the sustained expansion of the technical services in the Asian region. Bruno Solinas completed his degree in engineering at the Technical University of Bretigny sur Orge (in France), and is a specialist for steel structures. He has many years of experience as a technical service-provider and manager in the sectors of offshore structures, plant construction for oil and gas installations, and in petrochemicals and pharmaceuticals. In his previous position, Solinas was General Manager of Technip Engineering in Thailand.

O’Connell Joins Edoc as Regional Sales Manager
