Hyundai Heavy, Nigeria to Set up LNG Shipping Firm

Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., the world's biggest shipbuilder, said on Wednesday it will set up a shipping firm with Nigeria's state-run Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. (NNPC) to deliver liquefied natural gas. Hyundai will own 49 percent stake in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) joint venture shipping company, to be named Nigeria Korea Marine (NIKORMA) Transport Ltd., while NNPC will own 51 percent. The shipbuilder will eventually deliver crude and oil products after initially focusing on LNG, Hyundai said. Earlier this year, Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. said it will set up a similar shipping firm with NNPC, a joint venture called Nigeria Daewoo Shipping Ltd., which will transport merchant goods, crude oil and petroleum products. Daewoo, NNPC Form Joint Shipping Venture

DSME and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) have signed a Joint Venture Agreement to establish a world class shipping company. The shipping joint venture company will be called Nigeria Daewoo Shipping Ltd. (NIDAS). The scope of NIDAS will be local and international transportation of merchant goods, crude oil and petroleum products. The initial capital of NIDAS will be $10 million. The equity interests of DSME and NNPC in the shipping company will be 49% and 51% respectively. The joint venture will also have an offshore office which will be responsible for vessel operations and logistics. DSME has clear mid and long term goals and expects to fully participate in the oil and gas activities including the energy sector through its involvement in NIDAS.

Daewoo Forms Joint Venture with Nigerian National Petroleum

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co Ltd will enter the shipping business by forming a joint venture company with Nigerian National Petroleum Co, Daewoo Shipbuilding said. The joint venture, tentatively named Nigeria Daewoo Shipping Ltd, will have a capital base of 10 mln usd, with Daewoo Shipbuilding owning 51 pct and Nigerian National Petroleum the rest, Daewoo Shipbuilding said. Daewoo Shipbuilding will be in charge of the management and Nigerian National Petroleum will supply crude oil for shipping. Source: Forbes

NNPC, Daewoo in Joint Venture

After over five decades of its involvement in crude oil and gas exploration without involving in crude oil transportation, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), has signed a joint venture agreement with Daewoo Ship-building and Marine Engineering (DSME) of South Korea, to establish a world class shipping company which will be involved in crude oil transportation. Already, $10 million has been released as the initial capital for the joint venture business, which would be called Nigera-Daewoo Shipping Ltd (NIDAS).
