BMT Unveils New Vessel Designs

BMT has introduced two vessel designs aimed at Taiwanese offshore wind operations.In March, BMT's Specialized Ship Design division attended an official keel laying ceremony for its new 36-meter service accommodation transfer vessel (SATV). BMT has partnered with high-speed commercial vessel builder Penguin Shipyard International (PSI) for the SATV as well as a new 26-meter crew transfer vessel (CTV).The SATV design aims to push the boundaries of wind farm servicing and maintenance activities to a whole new level and boost productivity, according to BMT.

Njord Offshore Orders Crew Transfer Duo

BMT said it has secured a contract to provide Njord Offshore with two 23m crew transfer vessels (CTV).The contract, which follows the recent launch of 27m CTVs Njord Zenith and Njord Zephyr designed by BMT and built by Cheoy Lee Shipyards in China, marks the first mid-range CTV BMT has designed.Jago Lawless, Technical Director at BMT, said, “We have refined the hull design based on real data we have taken from our existing 26m and 21m vessels that are currently operating throughout Europe.

Njord Offshore’s New Crew Transfer Vessel Completes Sea Trials

The first in a series of two new 27-meter crew transfer vessels (CTV) designed by BMT for Njord Offshore has completed sea trials, reaching a top speed of 27 knots. The new vessel, Njord Zenith, was built by Cheoy Lee Shipyards in China.Jago Lawless, Technical Director at BMT explains: “We have a number of 26m CTV vessels operating that have been designed and built in accordance with Lloyd’s Register’s rules for Special Service Craft and the UK code for High Speed Offshore Service Craft. This 27m vessel however, is the first CTV designed by BMT that utilizes a highly efficient Z-bow hull form.

Full Speed Ahead with Volvo Penta Quad IPS

Volvo Penta’s IPS drive system celebrated a decade in production this year — coinciding with the inaugural launch of the Volvo Penta IPS quad commercial installation in four Njord Offshore crew transfer catamarans. Njord Odin is the newest vessel to join Njord Offshore’s existing fleet. The catamaran contains a quadruple installation Volvo Penta IPS900 complete propulsion system. A lot can happen in 10 years. A decade ago Volvo Penta introduced its Inboard Performance System (IPS), changing the face of the leisure and commercial marine industries.

Njord Odin Completes Sea Trials

Njord Odin, the first of a series of advanced 26m windfarm support vessels (WSV) for Njord Offshore, has completed sea trials, designer BMT Nigel Gee announced. Developed from BMT’s range of WSVs, these are the largest BMT-designed vessels built to date. Built by Strategic Marine, Njord Odin is also the first to be fitted with a quadruple installation of the Volvo Penta IPS system, with the forward-facing, twin counter-rotating propellers and individually steerable pods under the hull. The vessel is 26.3m in length with a beam of 9.3m with each of the four Volvo IPS900 units delivering 515 kW.

Njord Offshore Orders BMT-designed WSVs

BMT Nigel Gee Ltd. announced that it has won a design for the construction of up to eight advanced 26m Windfarm Support Vessels (WSV), to be built by the Australian shipbuilder, Strategic Marine. The vessels are to be built for Njord Offshore Ltd. who has already taken delivery of eight BMT designed 21m WSVs, also built by Strategic Marine. Developed from BMT’s range of WSVs with Njord Offshore, the vessels will be 26m in length with a beam of 9.1m, powered by four Scania DI16 070 diesel engines, driving Servogear controllable pitch propellers (CPP) through a combining gearbox.

First Twin Axe Delivery for Njord Offshore

Njord Offshore from Essex, U.K., have taken delivery of their first 26m Twin Axe built by Damen Shipyards Group. The vessel was ordered early January 2014, and the delivery took place on February 27. During this seven-week period, the vessel was modified from a basic, standard vessel to suit the specific Njord Offshore requirements. Njord Offshore, established in 2011, focuses on the Offshore Wind industry and operates vessels ranging from 21-26m. In 2014, the Njord fleet shows nine vessels with further fleet expansion in 2015.

Njord Orders More Windfarm Service Vessels

Strategic Marine, a specialist shipbuilder in Asia, today announced that Njord Offshore, U.K. fleet operator of Crew Transfer Vessels for the growing European offshore windfarm sector, has officially confirmed the option for two more high performance crew transfer and service vessels, taking the total order to eight vessels. So far, Strategic has delivered six vessels to Njord Offshore. The first, Njord Advocet, completed her maiden charter on the Greater Gabbard Windfarm for SSE and will join her sister Vessels off the European Mainland off Germany. The Njord Kittiwake is now working off Denmark and the Njord Curlew and Lapwing off Germany. The Njord Puffin and Petrel were delivered last month at Strategic’s shipyard in Singapore and have just arrived in Europe.

Seawork 2013 Sets New Standards

Seawork 2013 (UK Port of Southampton June 25-27) attracted record numbers of commercial marine professionals, who were drawn to the exhibition to see new products, new vessels on the pontoons, demonstrations on-the-water, on stands and in the Dive Tank and hear papers from organizations including the Ministry of Defense, the Maritime & Coastguard Agency and the Navitus Bay Wind Park, to be constructed off England’s south coast. Over the three days, 7,327 professionals visited the exhibition, a six per cent increase on 2012. Strategic Marine Delivers Two Windfarm Service Vessels

Specialist boatbuilder Strategic Marine delivered the Njord Puffin to offshore windfarm service fleet operator Njord Offshore for deployment in Northern Europe. “The Puffin is the sixth in a series of eight vessels ordered, a strong signal of our commitment to the global windfarm industry,” said Rodney Davies, Operations Manager at Strategic Marine. “Last week we delivered the fifth, the Njord Petrel. Njord Offshore Implements Maintenance Software

U.K.-based Marine Software Ltd. delivered Marine Planned Maintenance software to Njord Offshore, to manage planned maintenance activities for their 21-meter crew transfer vessels (CTVs) Njord Avocet and Njord Kittiwake. These two vessels are purpose built for the Offshore Windfarm Industry in a series of vessels managed by Njord Offshore. Designed by naval architect’s BMT Nigel Gee and built by Strategic Marine, these vessels are the first of six which are designed, surveyed and classed to DNV + IAI HSLC R2 Wind Farm Service 1 notation.

Australian shipbuilder Strategic Marine has started 2012 strongly, signing contracts to build eight 20 metre offshore wind farm crew transfer vessels (including options) for the European market.
