An Industry-First: DEME Installs Offshore Wind Cables Using LNG-powered 'Living Stone'

Belgian offshore installation service provider DEME Offshore has installed the DolWin6 High Voltage DC (HVDC) cable in the German North Sea, using its LNG-powered DP3 vessel Living Stone. DolWin6 has a transmission capacity of 900 MW and is owned and operated by transmission system operator TenneT. New Double-ended Ferry for Norderney

Ferries operated by Norden-Frisia AG have been serving the East Frisian island of Norderney for many decades. Navigation in these coastal waters poses special challenges: in some areas the waterway only leaves a few centimeters below the keel and the water contains a significant amount of swirled-up sand. A new sister ship of the double-ended ferry MS Frisia IV equipped with Voith Schneider Propellers (VSP) is to enter service in summer 2015. The shipping company again chose Voith Schneider Propellers as these are ideally suited for the specific operating conditions in shallow tidelands.

Damen subsidiary Oranjewerf Ship Repair to overhaul the former Radio Veronica ship 'Norderney'. The legendary former Radio Veronica base-station ship was built in 1949, and after duty as the Iceland trawler MV HH 294 Paul Müller, was renamed Nordeney to become one of the first 'pirate radio stations', anchored well offshore out of the jurisdiction of government broadcasting authorities.
