Italy's Snam Buys Golar Tundra FSRU for $350M

Italian gas group Snam has agreed to buy Golar LNG's floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) Golar Tundra for $350 million.The Golar Tundra can operate both as an LNG carrier and as an FSRU. The vessel, built in 2015, has a storage capacity of around 170,000 cubic meters of LNG and a continuous regasification capacity of 5 billion cubic meters per year.In order to maximise its regasification capacity, the vessel will be located in central-northern Italy, close to the areas with the greatest gas consumption. Vado Gateway Welcomes First Ship

APM Terminals Opens Vado Gateway

APM Terminals has confirmed that its new Vado Gateway terminal, located in the Vado Ligure Port Complex, North Western Italy, will be inaugurated on 12 December this year.With the placement of the terminal’s last caisson this week - an important milestone in the build - the commercial team have been actively engaging with the market. The launch commenced with an event at the Genoa Aquarium last month.Future services offered by the terminal were presented to key managers from the main Maritime Companies and Shipping Houses operating in the Italian market.Once operational, the Vado Gateway Terminal will be fully integrated with the existing Vado Ligure Reefer Terminal.Vado Ligure will become the first semi-automated port in Italy with a fully-automated gate and stacking yard.

Gothenburg-Belgium RORO Traffic Goes Up

Ro/Ro traffic between Sweden and the continent are increasing, as volumes between Gothenburg and Belgium have risen for the ninth consecutive year. During this period volumes between Belgium during have doubled, and the number of departures has risen from 12 to 16.Shipping companies are also in the process of expanding their networks from Gothenburg across large parts of Europe – often via the Belgian ports in Ghent and Zeebrugge, which act as hubs for intra-European ro-ro traffic.During 2017, 254,000 ro-ro units were shipped between Gothenburg and Belgium, and the forecast for 2018 reveals a 10 per cent increase to almost 280,000 units.

Boston Carriers to Buy Nuova Abibes SRL

Boston Carriers announced that in April 24 2018, the company entered into an exclusivity agreement with Nuova. The agreement provides six months for the acquisition of Nuova and all its assets and liabilities including but not limited to the storage facility in Italy as well as all its business, licenses and trademarks. "Our preliminary assessment of Nuova’s property plant and equipment assets only without including any valuation on the business, licenses and trademarks is approximately 21.6 million euro (or approximately 26 million US dollars) and its liabilities approximately 6.5 million euro (or approximately 7.9 million US dollars)," said a press statement.

APM Terminals Vado Aims to be Gateway to Central Europe

APM Terminals Vado, Italy Managing Director Paolo Cornetto highlighted the future role of the deepwater APM Terminals Vado facility, now under construction, as a new southern gateway to Central Europe. “We designed our new port around liner customers - and our landside customers – the importers, exporters and truckers - to help them do more business by tapping into the 70 million-member consumer market of northern Italy, southern Germany, Switzerland, Austria and eastern France within an eight hour proximity of our port," he said. Snam in Talks to Buy LNG Terminal Stake from Edison

Italian gas group Snam is in exclusive talks with EDF's Italian unit Edison to buy a stake in a liquefied natural gas terminal in northern Italy as part of plans to develop its LNG business, two sources said. Snam, controlled by state lender Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, is looking to buy Edison's 7.3 percent stake in Terminale LNG Adriatico and the gas pipeline that connects it to Italy's gas transmission backbone, the sources said. Adriatic LNG, which has a capacity of 8 billion cubic metres per year, is 70.7 percent owned by ExxonMobil and 22 percent by Qatar Petroleum.

Italy's 15-Cargo LNG Buy Tender Attracts Competitive Bids

A tender to supply Italy with about 15 liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes between April and September attracted highly competitive winning bids from traders including Gunvor, Trafigura, MET and Uniper, trade sources said. Companies offered to supply the shipments at only a slight premium to prevailing prices at Britain's National Balancing Point (NBP) trading hub, traders said. APM Terminals Vado Orders 19 Straddle Carriers

APM Terminals has signed a contract for the delivery of 19 advanced container handlers which will employ advanced diesel/electric power sourcing to increase fuel efficiency and reduce emissions for Italy’s newest container terminal. Vado, Italy – APM Terminals has concluded a contract with Finnish-based container handling equipment manufacturer Kalmar for the delivery of 19 Hybrid Straddle Carriers for the new 800,000 TEU annual capacity deepwater APM Terminals Vado facility now under construction on northern Italy’s Ligurian Coast. The facility will be the world’s first container terminal to employ an entirely hybrid straddle carrier fleet.

Hapag-Lloyd Boosts Direct EAX Service Between Europe and Australia

German liner company Hapag-Lloyd has further improved the Europe Australia Express service (EAX), one of its prime products. New port calls in Fos sur Mer and Pointe de Galets / Short transit times from Europe to Australia unchanged / Italian port switched to Salerno on Northbound leg. According to a media statement from the company, as of December, the French ports Fos sur Mer and Pointe de Galets (La Réunion) will be added to the EAX rotation on the Southbound leg. Furthermore, the Italian call on the Northbound leg will be switched from Genoa to Salerno. With this step, Hapag-Lloyd will improve direct port coverage in Southern Italy while at the same time maintaining good coverage of Northern Italy via other Hapag-Lloyd services and a good train connection.

APM Terminals Pact with Qingdao Port

Leaders from Qingdao Port Group met with APM Terminals executives in The Hague to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the APM Terminals Vado, Italy port project. Terms and investment amount were not disclosed. The MOU will create a new joint venture to invest in and work with other potential partners. APM Terminals Vado is a new terminal in northern Italy, which when opened in January 2018 will handle both containerized and liquid bulk cargoes – and integrated operationally with the existing 275,000 annual TEU capacity Vado Reefer Terminal facility, which was acquired by APM Terminals in August 2015. The Italian government is providing EUR 300 million for civil works for the project.

4 STS, 14 ARMG Cranes for APM Vado Terminal

APM Terminals signed an agreement for the construction and delivery of four Ship-to-Shore (STS) Gantry Cranes and 14 Automated Rail-Mounted Gantry Cranes (ARMGs) for the new APM Terminals Vado terminal now under construction on Italy’s Ligurian coast. The new terminal, the first new major port construction in Italy in several decades, is scheduled to open in January 2018 with an annual throughput capacity of 800,000 TEUs, and the ability to handle vessels up to 18,000 TEU capacity. The Italian government is providing EUR 300 million for civil works for the project. APM Terminals is investing EUR 150 million in the new terminal which will create 450 new jobs when operations commence.

APMT Purchases Italian Reefer Terminal Vado Ligure

APM Terminals (APMT) has purchased Vado Ligure Reefer Terminal in North-Western Italy, near Genoa, from the GF Group. Reefer Terminal has been the largest refrigerated terminal in the Mediterranean for more than 30 years, handles 600,000 pallets a year as well as 275,000 teu. The terms and the price of the deal were not disclosed. Located on Italy’s northwest Ligurian Coast, Vado Reefer Terminal represents an annual throughout capacity of 275,000 TEUs, with 510 reefer plugs, a depth of 14.5 meters, and 465 meters of quay and handles 600,000 pallets of fresh fruit imported into northern Italy and inland European locations. APMT acquired the terminal as part of its Vado port master plan to create new supply chains to markets in Northern Italy, Southern France, Switzerland and Bavaria.

APM Terminals Acquires Reefer Terminal S.p.A.

APM Terminals and GF Group are pleased to announce the acquisition of 100% of Reefer Terminal S.p.A. by APM Terminals has been completed today. Terms and price were not disclosed. No more: Italy Refused to Take More Mediterranean Migrants

Italian politicians based in the north vowed not to shelter any more migrants saved at sea, even as thousands more were being rescued in the Mediterranean from smugglers' boats in distress, reports AP. All of those rescued will be deposited at ports on Sicily or elsewhere in southern Italy in the coming days, lifting this year's total of new arrivals on Italian soil to more than 50,000. Lombardy president Roberto Maroni said he would be writing to local mayors and prefects in his region on Monday to warn them not to accept any more "illegal immigrants" allocated by the government. Municipalities that did not toe the line would have their funding from the region cut, he said.

Rotork announced it has acquired Masso Ind s.p.a., a manufacturer of shipboard valve remote control systems (VRCS), to enhance its range of flow control products and services for the worldwide marine and offshore industries. Masso VRCS solutions include hydraulic and electro-hydraulic systems that are compatible with most integrated automation systems required for critical safety applications. The Masso product range also includes hydraulic quarter-turn and linear actuators, hydraulic power packs, solenoid cabinets and electro-hydraulic actuators for shipboard applications.
