Finland's Manga LNG Terminal Gets First Cargo

The first shipload of liquefied natural gas (LNG) arrival to the LNG import terminal in Tornio, Finland, on Sunday November 19, 2017. The Manga LNG natural gas import terminal in Röyttä Harbor, Tornio, is a joint venture of the industrial companies Outokumpu and SSAB Europe, the energy company EPV Energy and the LNG company Skangas. LNG was shipped to the terminal by Coral Energy, a time-chartered LNG carrier operated by Skangas. Once completed in summer 2018, the import terminal will be the largest LNG terminal in the Nordic countries and the second LNG terminal in Finland. EU to Strengthen Sweden-Finland Multimodal Transport

The European Union will support with just over €6.1 million from the TEN-T Program a project to upgrade the transport link between northern Sweden and western Finland, including land and waterborne transport systems. It will also contribute to the realization of the Motorways of the Sea (TEN-T Priority Project 21) concept. The project, selected for funding under the 2012 TEN-T Multi-Annual Program, will design, takes place on what is commonly referred to as the Bothnian Corridor and will construct and improve the transport links through new transport patterns, multimodal logistics and cost efficient solutions. Infrastructure investments will be made in both countries in order to improve port logistics, rail connections and port intermodality.

Ship Scrapping – Recycle Circuit Boards, Electronic Equipment

Boliden is currently ramping up a new plant adjacent to its existing electronic scrap recycling facility at the Rönnskär copper smelter in northern Sweden - an expansion that will almost triple recycling capacity from 45,000 metric tons to 120,000 metric tons a year, making it the largest e-scrap recycling facility in the world. Rönnskär is an integrated metallurgical complex, which smelts and refines metals from mined copper concentrates and from recyclable materials like metal shred and electronic scrap.

Stateview - New Leak Detection Tool

District energy specialists Mittel launches new version of its advanced leak detecting system Stateview. Swedish district energy infrastructure specialists Mittel Group announced the launch of a new version of Stateview, the group’s advanced system for detecting leaks in district energy systems. Among improvements in the new Stateview System II is a ten-fold increase of the wireless reach to 1,000 metres, giving field workers a much improved work environment. Stateview is a portable diagnostic tool for district energy pipe networks.

New SCA Service, N. Sweden, Port of Hamburg

The Swedish paper and timber products manufacturer Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget (SCA) and its transport and logistics unit SCA Transforest have been operating a regular scheduled liner service called Container Express since March 1 2010, linking northern Sweden and the Port of Hamburg. The vessel Flintercape, with a carrying capacity of 809 TEU, sails from the ports of Sundsvall and Holmsund (Umeå) in northern Sweden to Hamburg every 10 days. The 1Aclass ice-strengthened FLINTERCAPE is 465 ft long and 71 ft wide. The vessel had not been in service since it was delivered to the Dutch Flinter Group. With a deadweight tonnage of 9,500 tons, the Flintercape has a draught of 24.5 ft. The maximum service speed is more than 18 knots.
