Vigor Completes USS Chosin (CG 65) Modernization

Vigor announced it has completed a three-year modernization project on U.S. Navy Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Chosin (CG 65) at its Harbor Island shipyard in Seattle.The project, which encompassed more than 1.7 million hours of work for Vigor employees, in addition to work by dozens of subcontractors and the U.S. Navy, was one of the largest, longest and most complex in Vigor’s history, the company said. Work completed including weapons, communications and information systems modernization, as well as upgrades to many other areas of the ship.

Pacific Ship Repair Awarded 'USS Shoup' Contract Modification

The U.S. Department of Defense informs that Pacific Ship Repair and Fabrication, Inc., San Diego, California, is being awarded a $9,093,866 modification to previously awarded contract N00024-12-C-4400 for repair and modernization of 'USS Shoup' (DDG 86). DoD explains that for modernization, typical work performed may include ship alterations, blasting, painting, and surface preparation for complete or touch preservation of the underwater hull, freeboard, struts, rudders, running gear, ground tackle and sea chest, as well as various interior tanks. Work will be performed in Everett, Washington, and is expected to be completed by December 2014.

Todd Wins $5.1M Contract

Todd Pacific Shipyards Corp., Seattle Division, Seattle, Wash., is being awarded a $5,180,291 multiple award contract for the performance of drydock repairs and preservation of drydock caisson #4. Work will be performed in Bremerton, Wash., and is expected to be completed by November 2006. Contract funds will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was competitively procured with three offers received. The Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility, Northwest Regional Maintenance Center, Bremerton, Wash., is the contracting activity (N62799-02-D-0001).

Puget Sound Shipyard Receives Navy's Top Safety Honor

Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) Donald C. Winter announced April 18 that the Northwest Regional Maintenance Center (NWRMC), Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PSNS & IMF) won the Fiscal Year 2005 SECNAV Award for Achievement in Safety Ashore in the large industrial activity category. The annual award is presented to Navy and Marine Corps shore activities based on the overall quality of their Occupational Safety and Health Programs. “The significance of senior leadership’s role in promoting operational excellence through adherence to effective risk management and hazard reduction principles is made evident by the achievements of this year’s winners,” said Winter.
