Singapore's Sembcorp Marine has delivered the Norwegian Barents Sea-bound Johan Castberg FPSO to Equinor. The FPSO has set off for Norway, loaded aboard Boskalis' Boka Vanguard semi-submersible heavy transportation vessel.Johan Castberg is Sembcorp Marine’s first EPC newbuild FPSO. Sembcorp Marine’s scope of work for the Johan Castberg FPSO vessel comprised the construction of the hull and living quarters.Upon final completion in Norway, the FPSO is scheduled for deployment at the Johan Castberg field in the Barents Sea, about 240km from Hammerfest, Norway.

Aker Solutions Inks FEED LOI for Wisting FPSO

Aker Solutions received a Letter of Intent (LOI) for a front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract from Equinor, for the FPSO for the Wisting field development in the Norwegian Barents Sea.Wisting is a greenfield development located in the Barents Sea, about 310 km from the Norwegian mainland. Equinor is the operator of the field (35%), with partners OMV Norge AS (25%), Petoro AS (20%), Idemitsu Petroleum Norge AS (10%) and Lundin Energy Norway AS (10%).The intended FEED contract includes an option for engineering, procurement, construction and integration (EPCI) of the topside for the FPSO. EMGS Bags Norwegian Barents Sea Survey

Norway’s Electromagnetic Geoservices (EMGS) has received a letter of intent for a fully pre-funded multi-client survey in the Norwegian Barents Sea.According to a press release, the total value of the letter of intent is approximately USD 2.5 million.The company will mobilize the vessel Atlantic Guardian to carry out the survey. The Atlantic Guardian is a specialized vessel for cable laying, seabed mapping, and ROV survey. It was built in 2001 and received a major upgrade in 2014.The acquisition work is expected to be completed within the second quarter of 2019, EMGS said.EMGS, the marine EM market leader, uses its proprietary electromagnetic (EM) technology to support oil and gas companies in their search for offshore hydrocarbons.

Aker to Design Johan Castberg FPSO Accommodations

Aker Solutions won a contract from Sembcorp Marine to design the living quarters for the Johan Castberg development's floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO). The work scope includes detailed design engineering of the living quarters and technical specifications for the equipment and supplies required for Sembcorp to construct the accommodation unit for the Statoil-operated development. Johan Castberg is the largest oil discovery in the Norwegian Barents Sea.

Viking Supply Ships, Eni Norge, Extend Contract

Viking Supply Ships A/S has extended the contract with Eni Norge for the Ice-classed AHTS “Njord Viking”. The vessel is now firm with Eni Norge till 31st December 2016. Further, the charterer has the option to extend the charter period with 2 x 6 months. The initial firm period lasted till 29th July 2015. Njord Viking is supporting the Goliat project in the Norwegian Barents Sea, where production is scheduled to commence later this year. Viking Supply Ships has had a good relationship with Eni Norge over several years and the company is pleased to extend the contract with what we consider to be a key client. In exchange for a longer firm period than originally agreed, the rate has been reduced. The total value of the extended firm period of the contract is about NOK 150 million.

TGS Signs Vessel Charter Deal with Polarcus for 2016

TGS-NOPEC Geophysical Company ASA (TGS) signs letter of intent (LoI) for charter of an estimated six months of 3d vessel capacity from Oslo-listed seismic vessel operator Polarcus. TGS intends to charter a vessel from Polarcus in 2016 to acquire a number of individual projects in line with its 2016 investment plan. Under the terms of the LOI, TGS will offer Polarcus the Right of First Refusal (ROFR) for the charter of 3D vessel capacity to acquire discrete projects of up to 10,000 sq. km in total. Commenting on the agreement, Rod Starr, CEO Polarcus, said: "This is a positive LOI for Polarcus and we believe a testament to the strong operational performance of our fleet for TGS on both the recent project in the US and current program in Norway.

TGS Announces 2 projects in the Norwegian Barents Sea

TGS commences new 2D and 3D multi-client projects in the Norwegian Barents Sea. Both surveys will provide customers with high quality data prior to the closing of the 23rd Norwegian Licensing round. The HFCE14 is a 3,100 km2 3D multi-client survey, extending TGS' existing multi-year 3D Hoop coverage to more than 20,000 km2. The survey will be acquired by the M/V GECO Eagle towing 10 streamers and will cover similar Jurassic targets as the new Wisting light oil discovery. NBR14 is an extension of TGS long offset 2D grid in the Barents Sea, adding 6,600 km to the existing data library. The survey will cover the Eastern part of the Norwegian Barents Sea, including the newly opened area in the former disputed Norway-Russia zone.

Russian Companies Get Norwegian Arctic Offshore Licenses

Both Rosneft and Lukoil have secured license rights to blocks issued by the Norwegian government in Arctic waters. The massive opening of the Barents Sea for the oil industry includes invitations to Russia’s two powerful Russian petroleum companies, the first ever Russian companies on the Norwegian shelf, reports the 'Barents Observer'. Citing an announcement made by Minister of Petroleum and Energy Ola Borten Boe, Barents Observer says that Rosneft and its Norwegian subsidiary RN Nordic gets 20 percent of one license in the Barents Sea.

Statoil Delays Norwegian Barents Sea Project

On account of applicable Norwegian Government tax changes Statoil as operator has recommended a delay of the investment decision for the Johan Castberg project in the Norwegian Barents Sea. Statoil has continued to mature the resource base and development plans for the project. There are still uncertainties related to the resource estimate and investment level. "In addition, the Norwegian government has recently proposed reduced uplift in the petroleum tax system, which reduces the attractiveness of future projects, particularly marginal fields and fields which require new infrastructure. This has made it necessary to review the Johan Castberg project," says Øystein Michelsen, Statoil's executive vice president for development and production in Norway.

Barents Sea 3D Seismic Survey Contracts for TGS

Norway-based TGS will commence the Europe 2013 acquisition season with two 3D multi-client surveys in the Norwegian Barents Sea. The two surveys, both supported by industry funding, involve the Finnmark Platform 2013 (FP13) covering 3,500 km2 and the Hoop to Fingerdjupet 2013 (HF13) covering 8,600 km2. Both 3D seismic surveys cover areas of complex geology and are designed to address specific customer imaging requirements. Data from both surveys will be processed utilizing TGS' proven Clari-FiTM broadband processing technology. The HF13 survey will also tie-in TGS' successful Hoop 3D in the east. The FP 13 survey is scheduled to commence during March 2013 and will be acquired by the M/V Geo Barents towing 8 streamers.

Arctic Oil Exploration to be Stepped Up by Statoil

Statoil will drill nine wells during a non-stop 2013 Norwegian Barents exploration campaign. The company plans to meet development challenges here by tripling its Arctic technology research budget. Statoil's exploration experience in the Barents is already extensive. Of the 94 exploration wells drilled in the Norwegian Barents Sea so far, Statoil has been involved in 89. Nine more Statoil-operated wells are on their way here next year. "After our Skrugard and Havis discoveries we still see attractive opportunities here," says Statoil Exploration executive vice president Tim Dodson. "This is a less challenging area, as the Norwegian Barents is one of the only Arctic areas with a year-round ice-free zone.

Statoil, Rosneft Sign Deal

Statoil and Rosneft today signed agreements on joint bidding for exploration licenses in the Norwegian Barents Sea and on Joint Technical Evaluation covering two Russian onshore assets. This concludes the first implementation agreements envisaged in the strategic cooperation that the two companies entered into on 5 May, 2012. The agreements were signed by Statoil CEO Helge Lund and Rosneft Chairman and President Igor Sechin at the World Economic Forum in St. Petersburg. "These agreements show that Statoil and Rosneft are moving rapidly to implement the cooperation agreement signed on 5 May," says Statoil CEO Helge Lund. "The speed with which we are proceeding reflects our joint commitment and determination to realize the potential of the strategic cooperation," he continues.
