Surveillance Vessel Named at Vard

Vard Holdings Limited (“VARD”), one of the major global designers and shipbuilders of offshore and specialized vessels, stated that the surveillance vessel “Marjata” was named at Vard Langsten by the Norwegian Prime Minister, Mrs. Erna Solberg. The vessel was contracted by the Norwegian Defence Logistics Organisation in 2011 and will be operated by the Norwegian Intelligence Service. It is especially equipped for surveillance activity in the Barents Sea and the High North, and is one of the most technologically advanced of its kind world-wide. The naming ceremony for the vessel took place on 6 December 2014 and was attended by the Minister of Defence, Mrs. Ine Eriksen Søreide, as well as high-ranking representatives of the Norwegian Armed Forces and Norwegian Intelligece Service.

BMT Awarded NDLO Ship Design Contract

BMT Defence Services Ltd , a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd, has announced that it has been confirmed as design contractor for the Norwegian Defence Logistics Organisation ’s (NDLO) logistics and support vessel (LSV), supported by sister companies BMT Reliability Consultants Ltd and BMT Isis Ltd. The auxiliary vessel, designed to cover a multitude of roles and to be built by DSME in their Okpo yard, will measure 180 metres in length, 26 metres in beam, and have a displacement of over 26,000tonnes.

Fast Patrol Boat Delivered to Norwegian Navy

Fast Patrol Boat Skjold

The Skjold shipbuilding program is carried through by a consortium of three contractors with DCNS as the combat system design authority and co-supplier. DCNS works with Norwegian contractors Umoe Mandal and Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, through the Skjold Prime Consortium. Skjold FPB's are designed specifically for maritime security and safety missions in Norway’s littoral waters. The combat system is tailored to demanding environments and reduced crewing. The communications and sensor suites are fully compatible with active participation in international and NATO-led operations.
