Semco Inks Agreement with the Armed Forces

Vard Bags Norwegian Coast Guard Maintenance Deal

Vard Holdings Limited said it has secured a framework agreement for the maintenance of five Coast Guard vessels for the Norwegian Defense Logistics Organization.  The framework agreement, assigned to Vard Langsten in Norway, includes ship maintenance and corrective maintenance of the Norwegian Coast Guard’s Nornen series of five vessels. The total contract value is approximately NOK 48 million (approximately $5.7 million) over a period of four years, with options for three more years.

BMT Reports Strong Performance for 2014

BMT Group Ltd. announced a strong performance for the year to September 30, 2014, a period which saw BMT secure revenues of £165.1 million with underlying operating profits of £10 million, a proportion of which has been distributed to the staff through the company’s profit share schemes. Comprising 24 operating companies, involved in activity across 10 markets in 35 countries, the BMT group said it continues to concentrate on its core maritime-focused offering across the defense, energy, environment and transport sectors.

Royal Norwegian Navy Chooses Sagem Navigation System

Sagem (Safran) has won a contract from the Royal Norwegian Navy in competitive bidding for the navigation system on its polar research ship, the RV Kronprins Haakon, as well as the future 26,000-metric-ton ocean support vessel to be built by the Korean shipyard DSME under a contract signed in July 2013 with the Norwegian defense logistics organization. Both navy ships will be equipped with SIGMA 40 laser-gyro navigation system, which was developed and produced by Sagem as an inertial navigation system based on laser gyros and designed for harsh military environments. The Sigma 40 is a high-precision, autonomous navigation system that contributes to the effectiveness of naval weapon systems and mission success, its developer said.

MacGregor Wins RoRo Cargo Access Equipment Order

MacGregor has won an order from Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) in South Korea for the design and delivery of MacGregor RoRo cargo access equipment. It is destined for a 180-meter logistics and support vessel (LSV) under construction at the yard for the Royal Norwegian Navy's Norwegian Defense Logistics Organization (NDLO). The vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2016. The order was booked into the second quarter 2014 order intake. "MacGregor's long-standing presence in South Korea and its relationship with DSME proved positive in securing the order," said Karl-Axel Persson, Sales Manager, RoRo Systems. MacGregor's scope of supply includes a side ramp/door, a hoistable inner ramp, two lifting platforms for cargo (forward and aft) and trunk doors.

BMT Defense Applies NAPA Software in New Vessel Design

Naval design and engineering company BMT Defense Services Ltd. included a software package created by maritime software house NAPA during the design process for the new logistics and support vessel (LSV) ordered by the Norwegian Defense Logistics Organization (NDLO). Naval architects have applied NAPA for Design to the vessel's stability and hydrodynamics modeling to produce a compartmentation model that can provide hull form throughout the design process to production. The model will support the lifetime eco-efficiency of the vessel, either in combination with NAPA for Operations systems and the NAPA Loading Computer, or as a standalone system that provides vital information on the vessel when it cannot be observed.

AVEVA announced that BMT Defense Services Ltd (BMT) has chosen AVEVA Marine software to serve its current and future customers through improved design efficiency. BMT has selected AVEVA Marine to enable tighter integration between its hull and outfitting disciplines, aiming to improve design efficiency through closer collaboration between disciplines. “AVEVA Marine is used by our key clients, and many potential clients, and hence was an obvious choice for us,” said Roy Quilliam, Technical Director, BMT Defense Services Ltd.
