Shipbuilder Damen Sues Dutch Gov't over Russia Sanctions

Dutch shipbuilder Damen Shipyards has sued the Dutch government over damages it says it has suffered due to European sanctions against Russia.Damen, which produces a wide-ranging fleet of industrial and military vessels and luxury yachts, is seeking compensation for business lost due to the sanctions, company spokesman Rick van de Weg said, confirming an earlier report by Bloomberg.Damen had delivery contracts for a number of vessels across the company's portfolio that were scrapped by the sanctions invoked by Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Van de Weg said.Damen had an engineer

Damen Shipyards Partners with Port Accelerator PortXL

Dutch Damen Shipyards Group has become a corporate partner of the PortXL accelerator program for the maritime industry.PortXL has been described as the world’s first port accelerator. Its objective is the acceleration of innovative technologies for the green energy, maritime, logistics, and process industry in port regions across the world.This is not the first time Damen has been connected with PortXL. In 2015 Damen was one of the first companies to support the start-up support program in its early days. “We will be participating again from this year on,” explains Tom Akkerman of Damen.

France Seizes Yacht Reportedly Belonging to Rosneft Boss Sechin

French customs have seized a yacht belonging to Rosneft boss Igor Sechin as it tried to leave the Mediterranean port of La Ciotat in a breach of EU sanctions on Russian oligarchs, Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said.The move came as western states are implementing massive sanctions, including asset freezes, against Russia for invading its neighbor Ukraine. A separate nearly $600 million luxury yacht owned by Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov has also been seized, by German authorities, Forbes reported. The 88-meter "Amore Vero" arrived in La Ciotat on Jan.3 and was due to stay there until April 1st for repairs, the finance ministry said in a statement…

Historic Dutch Bridge to Make Way for Superyacht Reportedly Built for Jeff Bezos

The city of Rotterdam has agreed to remove a section of historic bridge in the Netherlands to make way for a superyacht, reportedly built for Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos.A spokesperson for the city of Rotterdam said the mid-section of the century-old "Koningshavenbrug," know by locals as "De Hef", will be removed this summer to make way for a yacht with 40-metre (131-ft) masts, but declined to comment on who owns the ship.Rotterdam broadcaster Rijnmond reported that the yacht is owned by Jeff Bezos. Officials at yacht builder Oceanco did not respond to requests for comment.

Oceanco Acquires Heerema Facility

Dutch superyacht builder Oceanco has acquired the premises of Heerema Zwijndrecht as part of the company's long-term initiative for growth, expansion, and consolidation of its construction activities.These new facilities of Heerema Fabrication Group, which builds massive offshore oil platforms, will be a hub that will allow numerous co-makers to physically set up offices alongside the construction works, encouraging maximum synergy and co-maker alignment among all parties.The site will serve as what the builder calls a “superyacht brain park,” said a press release.The construction and outfitting facilities will be utilised in several different ways.

Oceanco Delivers First Superyacht of 2015

Oceanco delivered the first superyacht of 2015 today, the 291-foot (89 meter) INFINITY. Built under the code name Y710, the yacht features an exterior design by Espen Øino and an interior design by Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design and David Kleinberg Design Associates. INFINITY is a go-anywhere yacht powered by  twin 4,828hp / 3,600kW MTU engines capable of reaching speeds of 20 knots. The yacht has a master suite that includes a private exterior deck and whirlpool, and can also accommodate 10 guests in 6 guest suites, including 2 VIP cabins.

Yacht Solutions at Italthai Marine has expanded its facility and tripled its superyacht yard capacity in response to the overwhelming demand for space in Thailand’s first dedicated superyacht facility in Bangkok. Since the partnership began in January between Yacht Solutions and Italthai Marine (ITM) at Samut Prakarn in Bangkok Yacht Solutions has received more enquiries for shipyard work than ever before and has already undertaken work on 43-meter SY Douce France, 45-meter MY Big Fish, 52-meter MY Elysium, a 60-meter Oceanco MY, 62-meter SY Lamima and 40-meter MY Amoha.

Oman-owned Dutch Megayacht Shipyard Set for Expansion

Oman's MB Holding Company, set to expand its newly aquired Oceanco. Rotterdam, shipyard facility. MB Holding Company, one of the largest oilfield services firms in the Middle East, has acquired Oceanco, a specialist in building luxury superyachts since 2010, and plans its massive expansion, reports the Times of Oman. The MB Group Chairman, Mohammed Al Barwani, pointed out to the Mayor of Rotterdam who was on a short visit to Oman, that some of the top businessmen in the world had bought superyachts from the shipyard, whose market tended to be to the Arab world, Asia, India, USA and Europe. Oceanco currently employs about two-hundred workers, but it is intended to double that number, having in the past year sold five superyachts with a total value of between €750 to €800 million.

ISS Names Board of Directors

Change in Organization’s Bylaws Specify Revised Board Tenure and Structure. The ISS (International Superyacht Society) announces its 2012-2015 Board of Directors and Past Presidents Council. ISS elections are held annually by peer selection. During 2011, ISS membership ratified changes to the Association’s Bylaws which now state that a total of 24 elected Board members will serve three-year terms. During the 2012, 2013 and 2014 election cycles, the ISS Board will be in transition. For the current year and based on a democratic voting system, ISS members have awarded eight Board positions for three years and four Board positions for one-year terms with the opportunity to re-run for the 2013-2016 term.

Hercules Offshore Q1 2010 Results

Hercules Offshore, Inc. (NASDAQ:HERO) reported a loss from continuing operations of $16.0 million, or $0.14 per diluted share, on revenues of $150.8 million for the first quarter 2010, compared with a loss from continuing operations of $4.5 million, or $0.05 per diluted share, on revenues of $223.5 million for the first quarter 2009.
