NOIA Elects McEvoy, Chairman Welch Vice Chair

The National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA) Board of Directors has elected Kevin McEvoy as Chairman and Dave Welch as Vice Chairman for the upcoming 2016-2017 term. McEvoy and Welch assumed their positions at the NOIA Annual Meeting today in Washington, D.C. Since 2011, McEvoy has served as Chief Executive Officer of Oceaneering International, Inc., global provider of engineered services and products, primarily to the offshore oil and gas industry, with a focus on deepwater applications.

The National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA) Board of Directors has elected Cindy B. Taylor as Chair and Kevin McEvoy as Vice Chairman for the upcoming 2015-2016 term. Taylor and McEvoy assumed their positions at the NOIA Annual Meeting today in Washington, DC. Since 2007, Cindy has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Oil States International, Inc., a publicly traded diversified oilfield services company headquartered in Houston. She also serves on the company’s board of directors, and has been NOIA’s Vice Chair for the 2014 -2015 term.

North Wales Trainees Start Offshore Careers

Six young men from North Wales have taken their first steps into a new career in the offshore wind energy industry having been accepted as trainees with the UK’s only dedicated trainee academy for the offshore wind industry, Offshore Marine Academy. Ranging in age from 20 to 24, the trainees come from a variety of backgrounds including plumbing, the Royal Marines and electronics, but all applied with the aim of starting a long-term career in the growing local offshore wind industry.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Vestas Wind Systems (Vestas) have appointed Philippe Kavafyan to Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Lars Bondo Krogsgaard to Co-Chief Executive Officer (Co-CEO) of MHI Vestas Offshore Wind. The appointments will take effect on 1 April, 2018, and are made in accordance with the joint venture agreement's principle of changing its leadership every four years. Offshore Marine Academy Trainees Graduate into Jobs

SBM Offshore Hands over FPSO Turritella to Shell

SBM Offshore said it has completed the transaction related to the sale of floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel Turritella to Shell E and P Offshore Services B.V.   Shell exercised an option to purchase the FPSO from SBM Offshore in summer 2017.    The Turritella FPSO is contracted for the Stones deepwater development in the Gulf of Mexico, which began production in 2016.   The vessel has a daily production capacity of approximately 60,000 barrels of oil and 15 million cubic feet of natural gas.

Brandsborg - Danfoss-Sea Recovery

Freddy Brandsborg joins Danfoss-Sea Recovery to manage Commercial Marine and Offshore sales in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. He will operate out of the company's Danish location to create new partnerships with many of the shipping and offshore oil companies throughout the region Brandsborg brings with him almost 30 years of experience in the marine and offshore industry. As a mechanical engineer, and later a sales engineer, he has invested a majority of his career serving as a specialist in hydraulic valve remote control systems for offshore and marine vessels.

North Wales Offshore Wind Trainees Breeze Through Program

Six offshore wind energy trainees from North Wales have successfully completed a year-long training program with the UK’s only dedicated academy for the offshore wind industry and are ready to take up positions in this rapidly expanding industry. The trainees were fortunate enough to be selected for Offshore Marine Academy structured traineeship, which selects candidates with an affinity for the marine and coastal environment and aim to prepare them for a new career in offshore wind.

Offshore Energy Conference: Exceeds Expectations

Record number of 7632 attendants gathered in Amsterdam. Offshore industry professionals from around the world gathered in Amsterdam on 23 - 24 October for Offshore Energy Exhibition & Conference 2012. Offshore Energy 2012 continued on its path of steady growth. The exhibition sold out and welcomed over 400 exhibitors, up 33% from 2011. 204 new exhibitors took part, including international exhibitors coming from a.o. Sweden, Dubai, Italy, United Kingdom, Finland, Russia, United States, and France. Exhibition visitors represented 45 countries.

Vroon Offshore Vessel Undergoes Modification Work

Damen Shiprepair Oranjewerf has completed final outfitting and modifications on a second subsea-support walk-to-work (W2W) vessel for Vroon Offshore Services (VOS). VOS Stone was built at Fujian Southeast Shipbuilding in China before coming to the Netherlands for completion. This follows a similar project successfully completed in July this year at Oranjewerf, involving sister ship VOS Start. Vroon Offshore Services and Ampelmann have joined forces to deploy a Walk to Work (W2W) solution for the Arkona offshore wind farm, located in the German Baltic Sea. Vroon’s VOS Stone vessel, the newest addition to its offshore-support fleet, will be mobilized with an Ampelmann A400 gangway system. Bryceon Sumner has joined Foss Maritime as chief financial officer, hired to oversee all aspects of the organization's financial function and performance. Sumner brings to the role years of experience gained at a number of organizations ranging from education technology and real estate, to architecture and financial services. Prior to joining Foss, Sumner served as COO and CFO for public and private companies, family offices and as a senior financial officer of a $60 billion government banking insurance fund.

India’s largest private sector shipping company  Great Eastern Shipping Company Limited (G E Shipping) has contracted to sell its 2003 built Supramax Dry Bulk Carrier Jag Rahul of about 52,364 dwt. G E Shipping said that the vessel will be delivered to the new buyer in Q4 FY 2017-18. The Company’s current fleet (including Jag Rahul) stands at 48 vessels, comprising 32 tankers (12crude carriers, 17 product tankers, 3 LPG carrier) and 16 dry bulk carriers (1 Capesize, 8 Kamsarmax, 7 Supramax) with an average age of 10.24 years aggregating 3.93 mn dwt.

Bibby Offshore Recapitalization Completed

Subsea services provider Bibby Offshore Holdings Limited said it has completed the recapitalization of its balance sheet announced on December 5, 2017. The agreement to recapitalize the balance sheet was approved January 10 by 98.7 percent of noteholders of the £175 million (approximately $243 million) 7.5 percent senior secured notes, and makes noteholders the new owners of the group. “The completion of the recapitalization will be transformational for Bibby Offshore and is a major milestone for our business,” said Howard Woodcock, chief executive of Bibby Offshore.

Marine Engineering of Importance to U.K. Economy

A recent report by the Royal Academy of Engineering on Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) occupations found that demand for graduate engineers is exceeding supply. Since then, there has been more focus by the British Government on the education of engineers and raising awareness of engineering career paths within the U.K. With engineering being essential to a number of sectors there is a huge variety of career options available. There are career options in sound, safety, transport, aeronautical, energy and marine to name a few. Looking at engineering as a whole, SEMTA predicts that U.K. industry will need to recruit an extra 354,000 employees, to replace retirees up until 2016.

Francois Named CEO of Delta Towing

Hercules Offshore, Inc. has appointed Larry Francois as Chief Executive Officer and President of Delta Towing effective August 20. Delta Towing, a subsidiary of Hercules Offshore, operates a fleet of 96 marine vessels, including 42 inland tugs, 18 offshore tugs and 36 crew boats, as well as 60 barges, including 30 deck barges, 17 shale barges, four spud barges and one offshore barge in the Gulf of Mexico. Larry has over 30 years of industry experience, most recently serving as Sr. Vice President Operations for Trico Marine Services, Inc. ABS Energy VP Sember Honored by USMMA

The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) honored ABS’ Vice President of Energy Development William J. Sember with its RearAdmiral Lauren S. McCready Award during the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) Annual Maritime Technology Conference & Expo in Houston, TX, October 19-21. The award recognizes outstanding commitment and achievement to the maritime industry by an alumnus of the USMMA at Kings Point, New York. It is named after RearAdmiral Lauren S. McCready, one of the founders and builders of the USMMA who is credited with building the institution’s outstanding engineering department. Carneiro to Head Tesla’s Brazil Operations

Bergeron, President, Tesla Offshore LLC has announced that Donizeti Carneiro has joined Tesla Offshore LLC as the company’s area manager for South America, with an office in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. For the past 13 years Donizeti has been involved with the Brazilian offshore oil and gas industry, ten of those years managing C&C Technologies’ efforts in that area. At the beginning of his professional career, Donizeti worked as a civil engineer and after five years he pursued a PhD degree in Geophysics and shifted his career to mining, oil and gas and applied Geophysics projects.

Bureau Veritas Selects New Offshore Lead

Bureau Veritas has appointed Matthieu de Tugny as Senior Vice President in charge of offshore activities within the marine and offshore operating group. He is tasked with driving forward Bureau Veritas Group initiatives in the oil and gas offshore market and enhancing Bureau Veritas’ technical leadership and recognition in this market. Matthieu de Tugny graduated from the Ecole Nationale de la Marine Marchande, France and from the Ecole Supérieure d'Electricité, France as an engineer. He started his career at Bureau Veritas in 1994 in the Electricity and Automation Section.

Jumbo Orders LNG-powered Heavy Lift Ship

Dutch transportation and installation contractor Jumbo said it has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with shipbuilder China Merchants Industry Holdings (CMIH) for the construction of a new heavy lift crane vessel (HLCV) scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2020. The DP2 vessel will feature dual fuel engines capable of operating on liquefied natural gas (LNG), and will be built to serve the offshore wind and the offshore oil and gas industries. “Despite the current offshore climate, we are committing to this industry long term,” said Jumbo managing director, Michael Kahn.

Aker Kvaerner Partners with Falck Nutec

Global construction and engineering services group Aker Kvaerner has entered into a partnership with offshore training provider Falck Nutec. Falck Nutec has opened a new GBP 250 000 Offshore Training Portal in Aberdeen's Union Street. Under the new agreement, Aker Kvaerner will have direct access to new recruits coming into the industry and be able to match their skills set to the range of job opportunities currently available within the company. This, the first week of the joint venture, coincides with Offshore Europe. The 12 month partnership also gives Aker Kvaerner access to Falk Nutec's training facilities in Dyce and Teesside, where they will be able to further engage with an audience eager to pursue a career offshore.
