Bibby Marine Services said it has signed a contract with Total E&P Netherland to charter the new Damen designed and built walk-to-work’(W2W) service operationvVessel Bibby WaveMaster1 from April 2018 through to October 2018, with options to extend up to three years. Total E&P Nederland will use the Bibby WaveMaster 1 to replace jack ups and helicopters and to provide access to gas platforms in the southern North Sea. The vessel will provide accommodation for up to 90 pax including crew.

Van Wijngaarden Orders Second Damen Shoalbuster

The contract has been signed between Van Wijngaarden Marine Services and Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld for the build and delivery of a Damen Shoalbuster 3512, to be named the LINGESTROOM. This will bring the total number of Shoalbusters in the Van Wijngaarden fleet to five including the NOORDSTROOM, also a Shoalbuster 3512, which was delivered in April 2016. Van Wijngaarden Marine Services operates a modern, 15-strong fleet that delivers a wide range of support and supply services on a global basis to the maritime construction and offshore energy industries as well as port services and towage.

Faulkner Joins Braemar SA as Manager

Braemar (incorporating The Salvage Association) has appointed David Faulkner as ‘Manager, Ports and Harbours (Middle East)’. David is a Master Mariner and pilot and will be based in the Braemar SA Abu Dhabi office. He has extensive experience in providing specialist port consultancy services on aspects such as vessel manoeuvring, navigation, VTS (vessel traffic service) and marine risk, as well as providing expert opinion services to the insurance and legal markets on navigation, unsafe berth and unsafe port cases.

DP Documents Revised, Published by IMCA

Two International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) documents, often written into contracts by clients, have been fully revised and published. ‘Guidelines for the Design and Operation of Dynamically Positioned Vessels’ (IMCA M103 Rev 2), and ‘Guidance on Failure Modes & Effects Analyses (FMEA)’ (IMCA M166 Rev 1) are both now freely available on the IMCA website. “Both important documents were reviewed using the IMCA ‘open forum’ web-based system introduced last year,” explains IMCA’s Technical Director, Richard Benzie. “This made for wide stakeholder engagement.

Combatting Maritime Cyber Security Threats

Vulnerable to Hacking What should concern many in the maritime industry is that the main ship navigation systems including GPS, AIS and ECDIS receive data via radio frequency transmission at sea and as such are extremely  vulnerable to hacking.

The U.S. Executive Branch has declared that the cyber threat is one of the most serious economic and national security challenges we face as a nation, and that America’s economic prosperity in the 21st century will depend on effective cyber security. Before the maritime industry sounds the danger signal, it needs to monitor other industries and branches of the government and take proactive preventative measures. There is no better place to prepare future and current mariners for these challenges than in maritime simulators.

Offshore Energy Course Earns RTN Recognition

Leading the way for client representative training in offshore renewables industry . An operational offshore energy course, providing training in the running and delivery of offshore renewables projects, has received industry recognition from the Renewables Training Network (RTN). The Client Representative Course, run by Offshore Marine Academy (OMA), received the ‘RTN Recommended’ status earlier this month, highlighting the academy’s ambitions to meet training demand as well as to close the skills gap within the industry.

T&T Bisso Refloats Sunken Drill Barge

T&T Bisso salvaged a 2,000-ton inland drill barge capsized by Hurricane Gustav in Southern Louisiana. OSD Opens China Design Office

The Offshore Ship Designers group has opened a design office in . Initially staffed with six naval architects it will provide design resources to OSD’s European partners and also provide Asian shipyards with innovative tug and offshore support vessel designs. OSD has recently undergone a change in partners with the acquisition by ’s Ulstein Group of one of the founding partners, Dutch heavy offshore vessel designer . Noble Denton Group has joined an elite group of British businesses as it secured 59th place in this year’s Sunday Times Deloitte Buyout Track 100 list. Now in its second year, the prestigious league table ranks Britain’s top 100 private equity-backed mid-market companies with the fastest growing profits (EBITDA) over two years. The research analyses the profit performance of private equity-backed companies, rather than just the buyout deals. Noble Denton is one of 12 energy firms on the list and achieved 39.9% annual profit growth in 2006. A second vessel, which will be a sister ship to the 13,000-dwt vessel under construction at Halter Marine in Pascagoula, Miss., will enhance the service offering of PHTL by providing increased frequency and superior reliability. This first vessel has a capacity for 4,300 vehicles and Pasha notes, "PHTL's second ship will enable the line to handle a significant segment of this market.
