Rolls-Royce has a won a contract to design and equip a new offshore support vessel (OSV) for Island Offshore, to be built by shipbuilding group Vard. The platform support vessel (PSV) is a Rolls-Royce design of type UT 776 CD, the second of this type ordered by Island Offshore this year. Hydril Receives Order From Diamond Offshore
Hydril Company announced it has received another order for the purchase of a blowout preventer multiplex control system from a subsidiary of Diamond Offshore Drilling, Inc. Delivery of the system will be in 2003 for use within the Diamond Offshore fleet of rigs. Chris Seaver, president and CEO of Hydril Company said "This is the third deepwater blowout preventer multiplex control system Diamond Offshore has ordered from Hydril since the third quarter of last year. We are pleased to be selected to assist Diamond in their on-going program to upgrade their deepwater fleet of rigs."
Vroon Offshore Services Take Delivery of VOS Theia
Vroon Offshore Services (VOS) have taken delivery of a new addition to their offshore fleet. The VOS Theia, a 1,400 dwt anchor handling tug support (AHTS) vessel built at the Fujian Shipyard in China, was delivered today, 18 April 2011, in China. ECO Fleet to be Outfitted with Autoload
Autoship Systems Corporation announced that Edison Chouset Offshore LLC (ECO) of Galliano, LA, USA has chosen to have their offshore fleet of vessels outfitted with the Autoload onboard stability program. “The delivery of the Autoload software will be a staged roll-out for the ECO fleet. The initial install is set for 68 of the latest-delivered and soon-to-be delivered vessels. Staging after this group will be the remainder of the ECO deepwater fleet, inclusive of PSVs, AHTSVs and Deep Water Support Vessels. When the effort is completed, over 150 ECO vessels will be fitted with the Autoload software.” stated Gary Rook, Technical Director for ECO.
Leica Supplies Offshore Fleet
Leica has delivered eight MX 480 of its professional chart navigators for the fleet of offshore supply vessels operated by Hornbeck Offshore, Mandeville, La. The equipment was sold and installed by Leica dealer Frank L. Beier Radio Company of New Orleans. Each of the systems includes dual Leica MX 412B DGPS navigation receivers linked to a ruggedized PC-based chart plotter. Complete with built-in differential beacon receivers, the two independent DGPS receivers are designed to provide integrity monitoring with automatic switchover in the case of a failure or error.

SCI to Acquire Offshore Vessels
Shipping Corporation of India (SCI), is planning to acquire 10 offshore support vessels (OSVs), DNA reported. An internal study report said the company is mulling the acquisition of 10 anchor handling and tug supply (AHTS) vessels of various sizes. 28% of Offshore Vessels Currently Laid Up

Seabulk International Elects Thyssen as VP

Rowan Obtains Drilling Contracts in Saudi Arabia
Rowan Companies, Inc. was awarded term drilling contracts by the Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi ARAMCO) for two Tarzan Class jack-up drilling rigs to begin operating offshore Saudi Arabia in 2007. Each contract is for a four-year term. The relocation of the two rigs from the Gulf of Mexico will begin in January 2007 and the rigs should be operational in Saudi Arabia by the end of the first quarter. Rowan estimates that revenues from the contracts will be in excess of $550m. Bibby Topaz Charter Extension
Bibby Offshore, provider of subsea installation and services to the offshore oil and gas industry, said it has secured a long-term extension to the charter of its dive-support vessel (DSV) Bibby Topaz, owned by Volstad Maritime. The terms and conditions of the extended charter arrangement have been adjusted to reflect the current market environment. According to Bibby Offshore, the charter extension allows it to maintain and grow the group’s market share in the North Sea DSV market.
LNG Powered OSV Delivered to Island Offshore
Island Offshore's new UT 776 CDG design vessel 'Island Contender' delivered by STX Brevik shipbuilders. The owners say that fuel consumption measurements show that it was correct to go for this configuration: two larger gas engines which can be used alone or together in all operational situations, and twin diesel engines if more power is required. With the actual prices of gas and gasoil it is a considerable saving to utilize gas, and from the environmental point of view it is also much better.
Hvide Marine Sells Six Vessels to Tidewater
Hvide Marine Inc. signed an agreement in principle with Tidewater Inc. for the sale of six offshore support vessels for $22 million. The price includes the assumption by Tidewater of Hvide's remaining obligations for the cost of construction of three of the vessels that have not yet been delivered. The transaction, which has been approved by the Board of Directors of both companies, is subject to customary conditions, including the negotiation of definitive agreements, and is expected to close in early July. The six vessels being sold to Tidewater are part of the company's Seabulk Offshore fleet and include three vessels currently in operation - one 205-ft. platform supply vessel and two tractor tugs - and three 152-ft crewboats currently under construction.

SCI Acquires a Secondhand PSV
The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. (SCI) accepted delivery of a secondhand Multipurpose Support Vessel (MPSV) M.V. “SCI Sabarmati” today i.e. 18th November, 2016 at Singapore. This vessel is 2013 built, at Colombo Dockyard Ltd., and had lately carried out necessary modification to serve as MPSV. The vessel is SPS compliant and can be dynamically positioned (DP-2), having a gross tonnage of 3,306 Metric Tonnes and deadweight of 3,352.31 Metric tonnes. The vessel is dual classed with LR and IRS and has been built to comply with latest international regulations. Market Snapshot: Offshore Outlook
Notwithstanding the recent surge in crude oil prices, it isn’t lost on anyone that the offshore oil exploration business is, and has been for some time, in the doldrums. In the U.S. Gulf, that pain can be seen through Chapter 11 filings and the sobering specter of vessel after vessel rolling off the shipyard ways and directly into cold iron layup. And, it doesn’t help that the shore-based shale drillers have not only found a way to drastically reduce their operating expenses, but also how to turn the valve off and on, seemingly at will, in response to market conditions.

Sydness, as Managing Director for Thome Offshore and Thome Oil & Gas. His appointment is effective immediately. N-KOM Lays Keel for Qatar’s First Liftboat

Hvide to Add Two New Boats
Hvide Marine Incorporated has made an agreement to purchase two modern 152-ft. crewboats from Crewboats, Inc. The purchase price for the two vessels, which will join HMI's Seabulk Offshore fleet in the Gulf of Mexico, is $5 million. Hellespont Extends PSV Fleet
The Hamburg-based Hellespont group has extended its fleet of platform supply vessels with the delivery of the 3,250 dwt Hellespont Dione. Built at Drydocks World, Batam, the vessel is the fifth sister ship to join the Hellespont offshore fleet. The previous four vessels were all built in Cochin, India. G E Shipping Sells Supramax
India’s largest private sector shipping company Great Eastern Shipping Company Limited (G E Shipping) has contracted to sell its 2003 built Supramax Dry Bulk Carrier Jag Rahul of about 52,364 dwt. G E Shipping said that the vessel will be delivered to the new buyer in Q4 FY 2017-18. The Company’s current fleet (including Jag Rahul) stands at 48 vessels, comprising 32 tankers (12crude carriers, 17 product tankers, 3 LPG carrier) and 16 dry bulk carriers (1 Capesize, 8 Kamsarmax, 7 Supramax) with an average age of 10.24 years aggregating 3.93 mn dwt.
Hughes Provides Broadband to Hercules Offshore Fleet
Hercules Offshore has invested in a satellite communications system from Hughes Network Systems, LLC. Hughes and Environmental Safety Systems International Corporation (ESSI) are equipping the entire Hercules Offshore fleet of Class 120 to Class 230 liftboats in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, with Hughes satellite-based broadband maritime services. These liftboats, commonly referred to as the workhorse of the offshore industry, are reliable, versatile, and self-contained. They provide a cost-effective and efficient alternative to traditional pipelay/derrick vessels. With their large, open deck areas, they are self-propelling and self-elevating.
