Jack Caravello has joined Rainmaker LLC as Vice President of Business Development, bringing with him more than 37 years of experience in Maritime and Offshore Industries. After graduating from MAINE MARITIME ACADEMY in 1971, Mr. Caravello sailed briefly in the American Merchant Marine Industry, shifting next to the Offshore Service and Supply Industry. The Department of Transportation has announced 70 grants totaling $98m in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds that will be used to improve small shipyards throughout the United States. The funds, awarded through the Maritime Administration’s Assistance to Small Shipyards program, will help create and preserve jobs, provide valuable employment training and make much needed improvements to shipyards across the country. The Small Shipyards Grant program provides up to 75 percent in ARRA funds for a project and requires the remainder be matched by the shipyard. A detailed list of the grantees is as follows. •    Aker Philadelphia Shipyard, Inc.,  Philadelphia, PA: $2,312,614, for the first year of training program.

Mobile-Alabama based Offshore-Inland Marine & Oilfield Services has completed hull repairs on the battleship USS Alabama, the state of Alabama's most popular tourist attraction. The 680-ft. battleship was in need of extensive hull repairs after spending 38 years in the muddy waters of Mobile Bay. The USS Alabama sits in about 10 feet of water while her hull rests in another 20 feet of mud. To get to the corroded portions of the hull, a cofferdam was built around the ship and the water pumped out. Approximately 4 feet of mud was excavated from both the port and starboard sides of the vessel. vessel. Offshore-Inland Marine & Oilfield Services removed 10,000 square feet of corroded steel from the battleship's hull.

Mobile, Alabama based Offshore-Inland Marine & Oilfield Services recently completed Dynamic Positioning (DP) system upgrades for Navigare on the accommodation Semis Safe Regency, Safe Lancia and the Safe Britannia. The DP system upgrades, which were performed while working in conjunction with Rolls-Royce, primarily consisted of hydraulic tubing replacement, installation of distribution manifolds and filter systems installations. Several hydraulic pump and motor upgrades were also necessary to upgrade the DP system. Prior to completion of the job, Offshore-Inland Marine & Oilfield Services performed a system flush, hydrostatically tested all components and commissioned the systems.

Continuing its effort to become the most complete Topside Repair and Conversion company on the Gulf Coast, Mobile, Ala. based Offshore-Inland Marine & Oilfield Services has recently expanded its capabilities to include accommodation fabrication and interior outfitting. The expanded capabilities have been made possible by the addition of a new member to our team, joiner superintendent Matt Everett. Offshore-Inland Marine & Oilfield Services completed a repair job for Celebrity Cruise Lines in November 2003. Celebrity’s Millennium required replacement of a 20-ton main propulsion transformer during a planned port visit at Port Everglades, Fla. Offshore Inland responded in spite of the strict time frame requirement to cut a large access opening in the vessel’s side, remove the existing transformer, install a new Celebrity provided transformer and close the access opening all in less than 17 hours. Offshore-Inland developed a plan and sent its team of highly skilled workers to both ride the vessel to Port Everglades and to meet the vessel in Port Everglades to effect the work.

In early 2005, Transocean Inc selected Mobile, Alabama based Offshore-Inland Marine & Oilfield Services Inc (OIS) to perform the re-activations of semis Falcon 100 and Amirante. Transocean has now designated OIS as the prime contractor for the re-activation of the Semi C. Kirk Rhein. The ongoing topside services provided by OIS include steel fabrication and renewals, piping and tubing replacement, electrical repairs, mechanical component replacement and deck crane repairs. Mobile, Ala.-based Offshore-Inland Marine & Oilfield Services has been subcontracted by Jordan Pile Driving Inc. to repair the hull of the battleship USS Alabama, one of the state of Alabama's most popular tourist attractions. Offshore-Inland Marine & Oilfield Services has been tasked with installing 18,000 sq. ft. of .5-in. inch thick steel plating on the battleship's hull at and below the waterline. Currently, Offshore-Inland is in the process of replacing the rusted sections of the hull to provide a solid base for the steel plating. The hull refurbishment, which is a part of overall improvements to the park, will be completed by late December 2003.
