According to a report from Offshore Shipping Online, naval architect company, Skipteksnisk, has confirmed that Volstad Maritime in Aalesund, Norway ordered another seismic research vessel based on a Skipsteknisk design. Crude Tanker Shipping Market to Get Hurt in 2018
Crude tanker freight rates are expected to decline further in 2018 following a sharp decline in 2017, according to the latest edition of the Tanker Forecaster, published by global shipping consultancy Drewry. Although tonnage supply growth in the crude tanker market is expected to be low next year after surging in 2017, this will not be enough to push tonnage utilisation rates higher as demand growth is expected to be sluggish. A slowdown in global oil demand growth and a likely decline in China’s stocking activity will keep growth in the crude oil trade moderate next year.

Kleven: MoU to Build Diamond Mining Ship
Kleven signed an MoU with De Beers Marine Namibia the Namibian offshore diamond mining company, for the building of an offshore vessel purpose-designed to support seabed mining operations. Designed by Marin Teknikk of Norway, the 176m ship will be the longest vessel to date to be built at the Kleven yard in Ulsteinvik, Norway. Veripos Extends Network with Falklands

Bourbon, Tanjung Discussing OSV Part Ownership Deal
Malaysian Group Tanjung Offshore Berhard and Bourbon Far East Pte. Ltd. have entered exclusive discussions for the sale of 51% ownership of nine Bourbon Offshore Supply Vessels (OSVs) operating in Malaysia. In parallel, Tanjung has invited Bourbon to become a shareholder in their company. New Orleans-based Energy Partners Ltd., reported its South Timbalier 41 Cap Rock discovery well is now online and is producing about 1,900 barrels of oil and 18 million cubic feet of natural gas per day. EPL is the well’s operator with 60 percent working interest and W&T Offshore Inc. holds the remaining 40 percent. EPL is an independent oil and natural gas exploration and production company with operations focused along the U.S. Gulf Coast, both onshore and offshore.

Dresser-Rand to Supply For Statoil Platform
Dresser-Rand will supply gas export compression equipment for Statoil's Troll A platform in the North Sea. The equipment, approaching $8 million, is being purchased by ABB AS Offshore Systems and will be supplied under the terms of D-R's frame contract with Statoil. D-R will provide two DATUM centrifugal compressors driven by 40 MW electric motors to the main contractor ABB AS Offshore Systems. The motors, purchased by Statoil directly from ABB Industries will be shipped to the module manufacturing yard in Norway and connected to the compressor packages under supervision of D-R and ABB. D-R's LeHavre, France, facility will provide the DATUM compressors. Delivery is scheduled for September 2003, with the equipment expected to go online in May 2005.
Better Outlook for Chemical Tankers
Subdued ordering and a narrowing in the tonnage supply-demand gap from late 2018 is expected to support a recovery in the chemical shipping market, according to the latest edition of the Chemical Forecaster, published by global shipping consultancy Drewry. Drewry estimates that tonne-mile demand of chemical commodities will grow at 3.8% on a year-on-year basis in 2017, of which the organic trade is likely to grow only at 1.5%. By contrast, inorganic and vegoil tonne-miles are expected to increase by 6.3% and 6.5%.
Shell Increases Interest in Offshore Brazil BC-10
Shell today has announced that it has completed the acquisition of an additional 23% interest in the Parque das Conchas (BC-10) project offshore Brazil for US $1 billion. Regulatory approvals have been obtained and Shell will now hold a 73% operating interest. The purchase is effective January 1, 2013. Partner ONGC, previously holding a 15% working interest, will now hold a 27% working interest. This purchase is the result of pre-empting a third party’s bid for Petrobras’ 35% interest in BC-10. Currently, BC-10 is producing approximately 50,000 boe/d. Since coming on-stream in 2009, BC-10 has produced more than 80 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe).
China Sells Ships Online
Chinese Maritime Court has sold five vessels of bankrupt Wenzhou Shipping, subsidiary of Zhejiang Shipping Group, through online auctions on Taobao.com for a a total price of $22.81m. The auctioned ships include 2011-built 57,000-dwt supramax bulker Zhe Hai 167, 2009-built 33,400-dwt handysize bulker Zhe Hai 162, 2009-built 23,500-dwt handysize bulker Zhe Hai 156 , a tugboat and an oil barge. Singapore-based company Varada One's vessel was auctioned off on online shopping platform Taobao for $11.7, Xinhua news agency reported. The VLCC Varada Blessing is 1993-built, 300,000 dwt tanker.
Production Cost of North Sea Oil and Gas Doubles
A chronic shortage of rigs and workers has doubled the cost of producing oil and gas in the North Sea, threatening to make the UK’s domestic oil industry uncompetitive, warned UKOOA, the association of North Sea offshore operators, according to Times Online. Signs that costs are crimping investment emerge in the association’s survey of North Sea activity. Further evidence of the dramatic worldwide oil industry cost escalation emerged in a new index showing a 53 per cent increase in project costs over just two years. The Upstream Capital Costs Index, launched by IHC and Cambridge Energy Research Associates (Cera), climbed 13 per cent in the six months to the end of October because of soaring inflation in hiring rigs, shipyard fabrication and labour.

Online simulation training specialist Safebridge will launch a new training course for Kelvin Hughes MantaDigital Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS). Kelvin Hughes Marine Systems, a supplier of ships’ bridge systems, has appointed Safebridge and its sister company MSG MarineServe GmbH as authorized training providers for Kelvin Hughes ECDIS products. The new course is available online through the Safebridge cloud-based Internet infrastructure, on-board or as classroom-based training through the ECDIS Training Consortium (ETC) Network. The Safebridge online ECDIS training course includes guided lessons, open freeplay and a competency test.
Two of Three New UK Offshore Wind Farms Get Go Ahead
The two approved wind farms at Race Bank and Dudgeon in the Greater Wash off the Norfolk coast will have a combined capacity of more than 1 gigawatt, potentially generating enough electricity to power 730,000 homes, reports 'Wales Online'. A third offshore wind farm proposal at Docking Shoal, also off the Norfolk coast was not given the go-ahead because of the potential impact on Sandwich terns, whose colonies at Blakeney Point and Scolt Head Island fall within a Special Protected Area, which is protected under EU wildlife laws. The total amount of offshore wind power now operational, under construction or consented has reached 6.6GW. UK Energy minister Charles Hendry said: "The UK is racing ahead of the global field and these two new offshore wind farms underline this momentum.
Online Design, Drafting Offered
Shipyards and marine and offshore fabrication facilities across North America are being offered a new way to fill their design and drafting requirements. Genoa Design International Ltd. has launched a unique web-based system that facilitates the delivery of detail design and drafting services through the Internet. From its base in Newfoundland, Canada, Genoa Design manages projects through a combination of traditional and on-line technologies. Detail design, drafting and 3-D modeling work is done by in-house designers and engineering technologists using industry-standard computer applications. Project management is handled through the Design Information Control System, Genoa's copyrighted Internet software.

When Aberdeen-based Diamond Offshore wanted to add new functionality to the existing helideck monitoring system on the Ocean Guardian drilling rig in the North Sea, Fugro developed and delivered a fully integrated, user-friendly solution to fulfill the requirements.
