Noble Drillship Bags New Contract

Noble Corporation has been awarded new contracts for one of its drillships under which the unit will operate in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico and later Suriname. The 2013-built drillship Noble Bob Douglas has been awarded a contract with Murphy Oil, which will last from early to late July. The rig’s dayrate has not been disclosed. After completion of the project, the ship will start a contract with Tullow Oil offshore Suriname from early October 2017 to early November 2017 again at an undisclosed rate. Tullow is planning to drill the high-impact Araku prospect, a large structural trap containing a potential more than 500 MMbo. Meanwhile, Shell has taken an early termination option on the Noble Hans Deul, which has been working for Shell in the UK North Sea since August 2016.

Offshore Suriname to be Explored by Chevron

Chevron Corporation announce that its wholly owned subsidiary Chevron Global Energy Inc. (Chevron) will be assigned a 50 percent working interest in Blocks 42 and 45 offshore Suriname through an agreement with Kosmos Energy. Under the agreement, Kosmos will have a 50 percent working interest and remain operator of both blocks until the end of the exploration phase. Chevron will assume the remaining 50 percent working interest and will be the operator following any commercial discoveries. “This agreement enables us to explore for new resources in this frontier basin,” said George Kirkland, vice chairman, Chevron Corporation. Statoil Stakes Claim Offshore Suriname

Statoil has acquired a 30% participating interest in block 47 offshore Suriname from Tullow Oil. Tullow Oil operates the block 47 licence offshore Suriname with 100% working interest. Tullow will retain the operatorship and 70% working interest. The agreement is subject to approval from Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname, the state oil company of Suriname. Block 47 lies in a frontier area in the Guyana Basin. The licence is located some 270 kilometres north of mainland Suriname, with a water depth of between 1,300 and 3,000 metres.
