Spanish offshore engineering firm Saitec Offshore Technologies and renewables giant RWE on Wednesday marked the completion and the launching operation of their DemoSATH floating wind unit. SATH Technology is based on a concrete platform concept with a plug-and-play Single Point Mooring, the same technology used for FPSOs.The DemoSATH project uses a 2MW turbine in a full-scale prototype that will be deployed offshore Bilbao and will be the first floating turbine connected to the Spanish grid."The project moves forward at a fast pace for its installation later this summer.

Danish offshore vessel company Maersk Supply Service has installed six mooring lines and six anchors for the DemoSATH floating wind project at the BIMEP open sea test site in the Biscay Bay off the coast of Armintza, Spain.SATH Technology is based on a concrete platform concept with a plug-and-play Single Point Mooring, the same technology used for FPSOs. The Norwegian Ministry of Trade and Fisheries has approved Norway’s first development concession enabling Ocean Farming AS, supported by Kongsberg Maritime AS, to build the world’s first automated ‘exposed’ aquaculture facility. Situated outside of Trondheim, this new facility introduces a paradigm shift in salmon farming now, and other fish types in the future and is a significant step in Norway’s efforts to deliver technical solutions to address the impending global food gap challenge.

Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) announced it is to renew its partnership with the Institute for Marine Engineering Science and Technology (IMarEST). The year-long partnership will see the Institute and PML working together to encourage career development among the laboratory’s 166 employees, as well as boost its profile among the international marine community. PML, which develops integrated marine science to promote sustainable oceans, will also have access to the IMarEST’s vast global information resources and industry networks. The growing importance of deepwater exploration and production developments offshore China led classification societies ABS and CCS (China Classification Society) to conduct a joint “Deepsea Developments in the China Offshore Industry” meeting on June 17. The meeting, which was held in Beijing, brought together leading offshore industry professionals to discuss a wide range of energy development issues. Aker Solutions has won two similar contracts, together worth approx. 120 million NOK, from CQG Oil & Gas Contractors Inc. and CCI Oil & Gas Contractors Inc., for the supply of Pusnes offloading systems(TM) to two FPSOs in the Brazilian market. The offloading systems will be installed on the two FPSOs P-58 and P-62, which are being converted and built for Petrobras. The two FPSOs are spread moored FPSOs, and will use the field proven Pusnes offloading system(TM) at both bow and aft ends.

Russian and Norwegian dignitaries, students and journalists turned out this week for education grant awards and cooperation signing ceremonies between StatoilHydro and schools in Murmansk and Arkhangelsk. “This is a very important occasion for north-west Russia and StatoilHydro. We’re signing agreements to train local students for opportunities in the region’s emerging oil and gas industry,” said signatory Bengt-Lie Hansen, StatoilHydro president Russia.
