Egypt Picks 7 Winners in Tender for 55 LNG Cargoes
Seven companies reportedly met with Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Co. (EGAS) to discuss an liquified natural gas (LNG) tender, including: Vitol, Noble Group, Trafigura, EDF Trading, PetroChina, Shell and Gas Natural, reports Reuters. EGAS will buy 55 LNG cargoes from November this year to December 2016 through a tender it has agreed to with those seven different companies. Originally, only 45 LNG cargoes were to be delivered. The cargoes are expected to meet much of Egypt's near-term energy needs as the government tries to cope with an energy shortage. Falling output and rising demand have turned the country from an oil and gas exporter to net importer and it has emerged as a major new market for LNG.
Egypt Receives LNG Shipment from Australia
Egypt received a cargo of liquefied natural gas from Australia after the exporter sent two shipments to the region in the past two years, signaling increasing demand, reports The Daily Star. The Woodside Rogers tanker arrived at Egypt's Ain Sokhna terminal Thursday after loading at Australia's Dampier port on May 12, according to ship-tracking data on Bloomberg. The 159,760-cubic-metre cargo aboard the Woodside Rogers loaded at the port of Dampier, which serves as the loading point for two LNG export plants, Pluto and North West Shelf. Both plants are operated by Woodside Petroleum. Egypt has emerged as a major new market for LNG as it looks to ease its worst energy crunch in decades. Falling output and rising demand have transformed it from an oil and gas exporter to a net importer.
Iraq Energy Sector the Focus of IEA Report
The International Energy Agency<http://www.iea.org/> (IEA) will undertake a comprehensive analytical study of Iraq as part of the 2012 edition of its flagship publication, the World Energy Outlook (WEO). "Iraq's energy sector is both central to the reconstruction and development of the Iraqi economy and of huge importance to the global outlook," said IEA Executive Director Maria van der Hoeven. "The focus on Iraq in this year's World Energy Outlook will illuminate a central issue for the future of global energy, and we are very pleased to be working with the strong support of the Deputy Prime Minister of Iraq, Dr. Speaking to the IEA Governing Board on 15 February, the Ambassador of Iraq to France, H.E. Dr. Fareed Yasseen, outlined Iraq's expectations for the IEA work.
