Drone Attack: Russia Suspends Operations at Ust-Luga

Russian energy company Novatek said on Sunday it had been forced to suspend some operations at a huge Baltic Sea fuel export terminal due to a fire started by what Ukrainian media said was a drone attack.The giant Ust-Luga complex, located on the Gulf of Finland about 170 km (110 miles) west of St. Petersburg, is used to ship oil and gas products to international markets. It processes stable gas condensate - a type of light oil - into light and heavy naphtha, kerosene and diesel to be shipped by sea.It was not clear how long the disruption would last…

RWE, CapeOmega, Neptune Energy to Explore Shipping CO2 to Offshore Storage

CapeOmega and Neptune Energy on Wednesday announced NoordKaap, a project concept for a cross-border CO₂ storage solution for industrial emitters across Europe. According to Neptune Energy, NoordKaap would involve transporting CO2 via vessels suitable for directly injecting the CO₂ at offshore locations and for terminal offloading. The two companies have signed a letter of intent with RWE to assess the possibility of shipping "green CO2" from RWE's biomass Eemshaven facility for offshore storage in the Dutch North Sea…

Nigeria Imposes Cargo Vessel Restrictions to Curb Coronavirus Spread

Nigeria will only allow cargo vessels that have been at sea for more than two weeks to dock in its ports to prevent the spread of coronavirus, President Muhammadu Buhari said on Thursday.Health experts fear a widespread outbreak in Africa's most populous country of 200 million people which could overwhelm its creaking healthcare system.Nigeria has closed its land borders and international airports in the last week to curb the spread of the virus.Buhari said on Twitter he had issued a directive that "only cargo vessels that have been at sea for more than 14 days be allowed to dock in our ports…

Asia: Pertamina, Petronas Join Forces

Indonesian state-owned energy company PT Pertamina and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) of Malaysia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop oil and gas business – upstream and downstream, not only in Indonesia or Malaysia but also in other countries.As per MoU, Pertamina will swap crude produced in its Malaysian fields of Kikeh, Kimanis and Kidurong with crude from Petronas' Indonesian fields of Jabung and Ketapang, said a Reuters report quoting Pertamina sources.Meanwhile, Pertamina,  Jakarta-based state-owned oil and natural gas corporation, said in a statement that the two companies have also agreed to explore crude processing investment in East Asia and in other continents…

Seaway Sees Project Cargos Rise in August

Press release - While August is generally slower for Seaway traffic, U.S. ports handled a range of project cargo for their customers. “During the month of August, high value project cargo was on the move throughout the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway System,” said Betty Sutton, Administrator of the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation. “Ships carried oversized cargo of wind components like towers, nacelles, blades and hubs; machinery, generators, and refinery equipment to the Ports of Cleveland, Toledo and Duluth. GAO: Ending Crude Export Ban Could Ease 'Price at the Pump'

As the energy profile of the U.S. continues to improve and evolve daily, fresh debate in favor of exporting oil and gas products -- which would have a significant impact on the U.S. Maritime Trade -- are gaining steam. A new report from the Government Accounting Office (GAO) will surely add fuel to the "export oil" fire now, as GAO reports that U.S. consumers could save on gasoline if the ban on crude oil exports were lifted, even if such a move creates uncertain environmental risks. Allowing more domestic fuel to reach the global energy market would probably boost the national economy and ease the U.S. trade deficit, but other implications are less clear, the GAO said.

Local equipment suppliers reap dividends, but there’s room for foreign businesses – if they know how to play. After huge oil finds in recent years, Brazil's need for offshore vessels continues to expand and could double between now and the end of the decade. Brazil's state-run oil company Petrobras wants to extract billions of barrels of oil while also developing its shipbuilding and service industries to create jobs. Meanwhile, Brazil is trying to use locally made vessels and equipment, but foreign companies are benefiting from the nation's oil bonanza too.

Diesel Electric Propulsion – CAT Starts Brazil Genset Production

Caterpillar says their 3500C Diesel Electric Propulsion (DEP) generator sets have entered full production at the Piracicaba, Sao Paulo manufacturing facility, delivering on a commitment to offer superior Cat power solutions products to the burgeoning Brazilian offshore market. Within the past year, the company has achieved significant milestones in Brazil, most recently announcing the RBNA Classification Society Certification of the 3500C generator sets to meet local content regulations. “The demand for Cat power solutions in Brazil has paralleled the exponential growth in the Brazilian offshore market,” noted Gregg Macdonald, Brazil 3500 Program Manager. The 214,000 square-meter Piracicaba facility is Caterpillar’s second facility in Brazil and currently employs over 5,800 people.

Cat Power Solutions Certified to Meet Brazil's Standards

Caterpillar announced that the RBNA Classification Society has certified the Cat 3500C diesel electric propulsion generator set packages to meet local content regulations in Brazil. RBNA, a division of ANP, certified that the 3500C products meet in excess of sixty percent local content. As announced previously, Caterpillar expanded operations in Brazil in third quarter 2011 to package marine and oil and gas products in the Piracicaba, Sao Paulo, Brazil facility. “As we continue to expand our marine and petroleum operations in Brazil, a central strategic goal we have is to maximize our local content,” said Gregg Macdonald, Brazil 3500 Program Manager.

Delivery of a New VLCC to Oman Shipping

Oman Shipping Company S.A.O.C. accepted delivery of a Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC), SAMAIL, from Universal Shipbuilding Corporation, in Kawasaki city inJapan, becoming the 29th vessel to be operated by the company. The 300,000-dwt Panamanian flagged vessel SAMAIL measures 330 x 60 m with a draft of around 22 m. She will be the first VLCC to be technically managed "in house" by OSC’s subsidiary by Oman Ship Management Company S.A.O.C. in Muscat. With this addition, OSC now operates a diversified fleet of 29 vessels comprising of 10 VLCCs…

Kranzusch Appointed Product Manager, Atlas Copco

Ray Kranzusch has been appointed to the position of Product Manager, Oil and Gas Drills, for Atlas Copco Construction & Mining effective immediately. In his new role, Kranzusch will report directly to Scott Slater, Business Line Manager for Geotechnical Drilling and Exploration (GDE) and Atlas Copco Drilling Solutions – Oil and Gas. Most recently, Kranzusch served Atlas Copco’s Western Region in technical support for water well and oil and gas products. He brings 27 years’ experience working in the drilling industry to his new position.
