New Alnmaritec Skimmers Delivered
Alnmaritec Limited, a UK boat builders, has two new boats delivered in 2010 to in the oil spill response/pollution control vessel market. The most recent delivery was a boom deployment and spill response boat which was delivered to the Barbados National Terminal Company Ltd. for operation on their oil export facility at Oistins Bay on the South Coast of the island. The new vessel Responder 1 is based upon the successful Wave Worker class from Alnmaritec and she is a 39.3 ft long by 17.4 ft wide displacement catamaran design providing a very stable and seaworthy platform.
First Russian LNG Cargo Journeys to Japan
The first Russian LNG cargo for delivery to Japan has been successfully loaded from the Sakhalin II LNG plant into the Energy Frontier LNG carrier. The Energy Frontier left the Prigorodnoye port on 29 March for the Sodegaura terminal in Tokyo Bay, with a cargo of some 145 thousand cubic metres of LNG intended for two of the Company's foundation customers - Tokyo Gas and Tokyo Electric. The LNG was loaded through the 805-metre long jetty at the Prigorodnoye port, which was purpose built for the year-round export of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and oil. Mexican Oil Facilities Reopen To Shipping Traffic
The Mexican oil export facility at Pajaritos in eastern Veracruz state reopened to shipping traffic early on Thursday and the nation's three other oil ports were operating normally, said port officials. Pajaritos, part of the Coatzacoalcos complex, reopened at 6 a.m. (1200 GMT) as weather conditions improved, said an official at the captain's office. Winds were around 3 miles per hour (5 km per hour) and waves were between two and three feet, he said. The Gulf ports of Dos Bocas in southeastern Tabasco state and Cayo Arcas in nearby Campeche state were also open to shipping, said officials at the captain's office in each port. Salina Cruz on the Pacific coast was operating normally, said port officials.
Korean Shipbuilders Buoyed By High Oil Prices
The sky-high price of international oil causing jitters in many sectors of the economy is being met with rather more cheer by Korean shipbuilders. High oil prices have resulted in a surge in orders for crude oil drilling facilities, which are the second-most profitable business for shipbuilders after liquefied natural gas vessels, according to a report on inadaily.com. Sales of oil drilling facilities this year at the top three shipbuilders in Korea - Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Samsung Heavy Industries Co., and Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co. - amounted to $4.7 billion as of last month. To put this in context, sales of such products at the three companies ran to just $1.8 billion for the whole of last year.
