Djibouti-registered tanker YOUNG YONG ran aground off Takong Kecil in the Riau Islands, Indonesia in the Singapore Strait at around 2020h on 26 October, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said Monday. The master of the tanker informed the MCA of the grounding.According to MPA. before the grounding, MPA's Port Operations Control Centre (POCC) issued early shallow water warnings through its Vessel Traffic Information System (VTIS) to the tanker on the potential risk of its grounding. Damen Shipyards Group is delivering an ASD Tug 2813 to Cititug in Ecuador. The vessel, to be named ASD Mater, in honour of the Virgin Mary, will operate in the bunkering terminal of the Port of Esmeraldas.The contract for the ASD Tug 2813 was signed in February this year between Xavier Game, owner of Cititug and Marnix Brouwer on behalf of Damen. Coastguard Assist Stranded Army Ship
Coast Guard personnel are continuing to work with key stakeholders to clean and contain the area around the Army vessel Monterrey, which began taking on water Friday night and remains beached on Puffin Island. After a shoreline assessment by two Marine Safety Detachment Kodiak teams, two areas were identified for cleanup. Absorbent pads will be used to clean as much fuel from these areas as possible. Containment booms established around the Monterrey have reportedly remained effective and absorbent material on the booms is being replaced regularly. “We are continuing to work with our federal, state, and local agencies as well as industry representatives to minimize the impact of the fuel spill,” said Lt. Matthew Zinn, supervisor of MSD Kodiak.

PVA Tells Members: Losses from Oil Spill May Be Compensable
The Passenger Vessel Association reminded its members on the gulf coast that economic losses from the BP oil spill may be compensable. As the spill continues and spreads, it may inflict harm upon PVA members in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. These members may be able to obtain compensation from either British Petroleum or the federal Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund. The federal Oil Pollution Act of 1990, enacted following the Exxon Valdez spill, provides that persons who suffer documented physical or economic injuries from an oil spill can be compensated for their damages.
