Oldendorff Sells Three Vessels in in CSL Pool to Algoma

The dry bulk operator Oldendorff Carriers sold the three remaining self-unloaders still operating in the CSL Pool for US$100.5 million to Algoma Central Corporation.CSL International Pool is a partnership between Oldendorff Carriers, Marbulk Shipping Inc. and Algoma Shipping Inc.The vessels -Sophie Oldendorff (70,037 tdw built 2000), Harmen Oldendorff (66,188 tdw built 2005) & Alice Oldendorff (50,259 tdw built 2000) -  are expected to deliver to Algoma around the middle of 2019.All three vessels have been trading in the CSL Pool on the East Coast of North and South America since they were built. Berg Propulsion Wins Six Vessel Order in Ukraine

Berg Propulsion secured a significant new reference in Ukraine covering installation of propulsion equipment on board six heavy-duty shallow draft pusher tugboats due delivery to grain trader and ship owner Nibulon. The vessels, to be built at Ukraine’s Wadan Okean Shipyard, will be ice strengthened for operation in harsh conditions to support transhipment operations, principally in the Dnieper River region. They will be used to steer barges by pushing or towing, service barges and other vessels in port, break ice in the winter, and support mooring operations. The order covers 13 (12 + spare) Berg Azimuth Thrusters (BAT) with control systems, with vessel deliveries scheduled for December 2010 through February 2011.

Aker, FLC Transaction Complete

Aker Yards and FLC West have completed the previously announced transaction in which FLC West comes in as a 70 percent shareholder in three shipyards in Germany and Ukraine. The agreement has been approved by all relevant regulatory authorities. The transaction strengthens Aker Yards' financial capacity and liquidity, and it improves the potential for further development of the three involved yards. Aker Yards ASA has consisted of 18 shipyards around the world. At 25 March 2008, the group announced that it intended to take the Russian controlled company FLC West in as a majority shareholder in Aker Yards Ukraine Holding AS which owns the Okean shipyard in Ukraine and the shipyards in Wismar and Warnemünde in Germany.

Ukraine To Sell Stake in Shipbuilder

Ukraine will sell a 78 percent stake in shipbuilding company Okean in an auction on September 11, the State Property Fund said. The stake in the company, located in Mykolayiv in southern Ukraine, is being offered to investors at a starting price of $4.8 million, the fund said. The winner of the tender would have to preserve Okean's specialization as ship-builder, pay off its debts to the budget of $459,660 and cover salary arrears of $1 million. The charter capital of the company, defined as the number of shares multiplied by the face value of one share, is $704,199. In the first half of this year Okean had a pre-tax loss of $606,751. Last year the company had a pre-tax loss of $9.6 million.

B.V. Holding Purchases 78 Percent Stake in Okean

Dutch B.V. Holding Maatschappij Damen has bought 78 percent of Ukraine's ship building plant Okean and will pay 26.3 million hryvnias ($4.8 million) for the stake, the State Property Fund said on Thursday. The Dutch company, which has won a privatization tender, will also have to pay off Okean's tax arrears of 2.5 million hryvnias and cover salary arrears of 5.5 million hryvnias. The plant, located in the city of Mykolayiv in southern Ukraine posted a pre-tax loss of 3.3 million hryvnias in the first half of this year. Last year the company had a pre-tax loss of 52.3 million hryvnias.

Aker Yards to Deliver Combi Freighter to Briese

Aker Yards has sold a combi freighter to Briese Schiffahrts GmbH & Co, in Leer (Lower Saxony / Germany) to be delivered from Damen Shipyards Okean in the Ukraine, a joint venture between Aker Yards and Damen Shipyards Group. The value of the contract is approximately $24.9m. Delivery is scheduled in the fourth quarter of 2007. A first vessel of this type was delivered by the Okean shipyard in July 2006.

Aker Yards Reports Strong Growth

Aker Yards ASA reported an EBITDA of NOK 401 million for the fourth quarter of 2006, an increase of 15 percent compared with the fourth quarter of 2005. The EBITDA result for 2006 was NOK 1 443 million, up 40 percent from 2005. Earnings per share (EPS) were NOK 21.77 for the quarter, and NOK 46.56 for the full year. Order intake in the fourth quarter was NOK 8906 million, giving an order backlog of NOK 79,420 million at the end of the quarter, comprising 149 vessels. Aker Yards had revenues of NOK 7 815 million in the fourth quarter of 2006, an increase of 60 percent compared with NOK 4 897 million in the corresponding period of 2005. High activity in all three business areas and the acquisition of new yards contributed to the development.

Aker Yards Gets Contract for Multi-Purpose Vessels

Aker Yards in Ukraine (Damen Shipyards Okean) has been awarded a contract for delivery of three multi-purpose vessels by the Ukrainian shipping company JSSC Ukrrichflot. The yard has previously built six vessels in the same series for the company, and an additional three vessels are currently under production. The vessels are expected to be delivered between April and November in 2009. The total value of the contract $33.6m.

Aker to Build Four for Stolt-Nielsen

Aker Yards ASA was awarded a $350m contract to build four ships for the Stolt-Nielsen Transportation Group BV of Rotterdam. Europe's largest shipbuilder said the ships will be specially designed parcel tankers, with stainless steel cargo tanks, for delivery in late 2008 and early 2009. Parcel tankers can carry bulk chemicals, edible oils, acids and other specialty liquids. The new ships will be 599.5 x 105.5 ft. wide and with a deadweight of 43,000 tons, Aker Yards said in a statement. The company said construction will be split between its Floroe yard in western Norway and its Damen Shipyards Okean in the Ukraine. The fore and after sections will be built in the Ukraine, and the middle sections Norway, where the ships will be completed.

Aker Yards, Damen Finalize Agreement

Aker Yards and Damen Shipyards Group have finalized the process of establishing joint ownership of the Damen Shipyards Okean. The plans involve increasing the output capacity of the yard to 60,000 tons per year. The Okean yard will be able to build a variety of large merchant vessels, as well as steel sections for all the three business areas of Aker Yards. The construction of the Damen portfolio including the series of cargo vessels for the Ukrainian owners will be continued. Aker Yards will manage the yard, and will in addition to the existing projects, primarily focus the group's production of merchant vessels. The operations will be consolidated into Aker Yards accounts as from the date of closing. Aker Yards has paid $12.8m in cash.

Aker Yards and Damen Plan Joint Venture

Aker Yards and Damen Shipyards Group are planning to establish a joint venture owning the Damen Shipyards Okean yard in Mykolayiv, Ukraine. The plans will contribute to an increased steel- and shipbuilding capacity of Aker Yards. The Okean yard is able to build a variety of vessels, steel sections for all the three business areas of Aker Yards, as well as the existing Damen range of vessels. Rene H. Berkvens, CEO of Damen Shipyards Group emphasizes that the product range of Aker Yards matches very well with the capacities of the Okean yard and for that reason this is a very valuable cooperation. For Aker Yards ownership share it will pay EUR 10 million cash at closing. Further payments will be dependent on financial performance of the yard.
