ABB on Tuesday announced that its Turbocharging division (PA) will go under the new brand name Accelleron, a compound word of: Access – Accelerate – Excel – on and on.ABB said the new brand is part of its portfolio management strategy to operationally separate the Turbocharging division before a final decision is made between a sale or a spin-off of the business toward the end of the first quarter. Whichever path is chosen by ABB to separate the business, this process should be completed in the first half of 2022.“Unveiling the Accelleron brand is a seminal moment for our business.
Van Oord Inks Service Agreement with ABB Turbocharging
Dutch dredging company Van Oord signed a three-year agreement with ABB Turbocharging to provide fleetwide maintenance and optimization services. The agreement comes as two Van Oord vessels receive the first turbocharger upgrades of their kind in the dredger sector, an upgrade at saving fuel and carbon emissions over the next decade.The service agreement, which marks more than 30 years of cooperation between Van Oord and ABB Turbocharging, is designed to help the owner minimize lifecycle costs and improve emissions across its fleet.

ABB turbochargers installed on board China’s largest containership help to ensure optimal performance and fuel efficiency.The flagship in COSCO SHIPPING Lines’ Universe mega containership series, the 21,000+ TEU COSCO Shipping Universe, was delivered in June 2018 by Chinese shipbbuilder Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) Co. ABB Acquires Tekomar
With its most recent acquisition, ABB has further expanded its ABB Ability portfolio of digital products and services with the addition of a new propulsion performance monitoring solution. ABB Turbo Systems Ltd. has signed an agreement to acquire Swiss headquartered Tekomar Group Ltd. ABB said it will further develop Tekomar’s digital solution for engine analytics and advisory systems enabling better performance for marine customers. The transaction is expected to be closed during Q4 2017.
ABB Turbocharging Previews Marine Auxiliary Product
ABB Turbocharging, at the CIMAC Congress 2016 presented its first dedicated turbocharger, for marine auxiliary engine applications, in a development cooperation with IHI Corporation. Designed for ease of operation and service, it supports a condition-based maintenance concept. The Marine Auxiliary Power (MXP) turbocharger is a key part of the company's strategy to focus on increased value for engine builders and operators in the large engine industry through segment- and application-specific turbocharging offerings.
Turbocharger Upgrades Yield High ROI -ABB
Power and automation technology group ABB announced study results show return on investment from turbocharger upgrades. The increased revenue resulting from higher engine output of three engines in a power plant accumulated to approximately $537,000 per year, and in addition, fuel savings of $470,000 per year were realized. Forrester Consulting conducted a study examining the return on investment (ROI) from upgrading ABB turbochargers for a major power plant operator in the Caribbean. Data gathered and analyzed from the three engines before and after the upgrade indicated a Net Present Value of $1.4 million three years, with an annual value of $824,000 and a payback time of 11 months.
ABB Increase Promotion of Valve Control Management
ABB Turbocharging said it will step up its promotion of variable valve train system, Valve Control Management (VCM). VCM helps a turbocharger to manage air actively so that an engine can operate at different speeds, loads and ambient conditions, thereby increasing its range of application and operation. A major market for this technology is gas power plants. VCM offers new options for higher performance engines that need either a wide range of operation or a fast load response, such as on tugboats, off-highway trucks and emergency power generators. Suboptimal air-fuel flow results in greater risk of engine knock, more polluted exhaust and lower efficiency.
3rd CIMAC CASCADES: Seminar for Younger Engineers
The third staging of the CIMAC CASCADES seminar for younger engineers and students took place at the ETH Swiss Institute of Technology in Zürich, Switzerland on June 8, 2012. Organized by the CIMAC National Member Association (NMA) in Switzerland, the Division Combustion Engines of the Swiss Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Industries (Swissmem), the event was considered a considerable success by all attendees. In what may become the standard framework for a CASCADES event, the seminar itself was preceded on 7th June 2012 by a visit to a member company’s facility.

At the Marintec 2011 marine trade show in Shanghai, ABB Turbocharging announced its latest move: the start of production in China of its most modern high pressure single stage turbocharger for low speed 2-stroke engines, the A100-L. ABB Turbocharging’s involvement in the Chinese market started in December 1978 with the conclusion of a license agreement with the organization that subsequently became its joint venture partner, Chongqing Jiangjin Turbo & Charger Machinery Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation.
