A broad range of shipyards now service both regional and global markets.Regional yards have a ready market, with hundreds of offshore rigs working across the region together with the service ships that support them. Then there are thousands of tankers and gas carriers that arrive each year to load energy cargoes for far-flung destinations.

As ASYAD Group continues the integration of Oman Shipping Company (OSC) and Oman Drydock Company (ODC), it has appointed Dr. Ibrahim Al-Nadhairi as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Shipping and Drydock business units.Prior to his role, Dr. Ibrahim was Chief Operating Officer of Oman Shipping Company and in charge of the ship management segment looking after the technical management of the fleet and overseeing the running of the company’s asset. In his new role he will lead a multinational organization with 1900 people.

Stephan Aumann has been appointed by ASYAD (formerly Oman Global Logistic Group) board of directors as the new CEO of the Oman Drydock Company S.A.O.C. in Duqm/Oman. Oman Drydock Company (ODC) has reported one of its busiest half year periods to date for drydockings, conversions and repairs. Based in Duqm Oman’s new ports and logistics city, ODC is one of the world’s largest shipyards at 1.3 million square meters. A key selling point for ODC is its geographical position. ODC is in poll-position for the Asia – Europe shipping routes and critically, saving ship owners time, and potential disruption, as ships can come straight to us without deviating through the Strait of Hormuz.

Oman Drydock Company (ODC) informs it has appointed one of Oman’s most experienced maritime professionals as deputy CEO to help support and grow its expanding operations. Taking up the role of deputy CEO, Dr. Ahmed Al Abri, draws on 17 years experience working as a naval architect overseeing major projects in shipyards around the world in the U.K., Holland, Romania and Singapore. “When I first went to study naval architecture at Southampton University in the U.K., there were no shipyards in Oman,” he said.

Onassis-controlled Springfield Shipping will convert two oil-bulk-ore (OBO) carriers to VLCCs at Oman Drydock Company (ODC), Oman. The multi-million pound contracts will see ODC convert the recently bought 319,869 deadweight tonnage (DWT), 2010-built Selma B to the Olympic Lion and the 2009-built Camilla T to the Olympic Leopard. The ships will be converted from oil bulk ore (OBO) carriers to very large crude carriers (VLCCs). The deal follows an identical job ODC completed for Springfield on the Olympic Luck (ex B Whale) that was successfully completed in January this year. The Oman Drydock Company has celebrated the handing over of the 300th vessel since starting its operations in 2011, under the auspices of Said bin Hamdoon al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications for Ports and Marine Affairs. The vessel, Olympic Luck, which was delivered yesterday (Jan 21) was converted from a multipurpose vessel to an oil tanker, a milestone achievement and an important project for Oman Drydock Company, said a statement from the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications for Ports and Marine Affairs. Oman Drydock Company (ODC) said it has made a “giant leap” forward in its campaign to become one of the leading shipyards in the world for LNG repairs after it was formally awarded the \ Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) license at the Posidonia Shipping Trade Fair in Athens, Greece. ODC chairman Dr. Abdulmalik Al Hinai was joined by GTT CEO Phillippe Berterottiere at the ODC stand to make the announcement. Berterottiere said it is highly important that ODC is able to put into place a solid quality system as a centre for LNG expertise.

Oman Drydock Company (ODC) is to formally launch a new partnership targeting the LNG carrier repair market at next month’s Posidonia trade fair in Greece. The new package is being launched with DSEC a subsidiary of Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Company Ltd (DSME), which is ODC’s official partner. ODC Chief Executive Yong Duk Park said Posidonia, which is one of the shipping industry’s biggest trade fairs, is an ideal location to raise the profile of ODC and the new partnership. ODC has a 52sqm stand in Hall 2 stand 2.217.

Oman Drydock Company (ODC), based in the Middle East’s new mega city of Duqm, signaled its "passionate and driving ambition" to catapult itself further into the region’s multibillion dollar ship repair industry after completing its 200th drydocking since launching in 2011. A ceremony was held at the shipyard, which cost $1.5 billion to build, to celebrate the landmark with shipping giant Maersk whose vessel, the 4388 TEU Maersk Wisconsin, was the 200th ship to be drydocked by ODC.

The Oman Drydock Company (ODC), one of the Middle East’s newest and biggest shipyards, is announcing its strongest year of trading. The shipyard undertook 75 drydockings and repairs in 2013 taking the total number to 190 since the yard which was opened in Duqm in Central Oman in 2011. ODC also saw staff numbers increase to more than 2,000 in 2013. The vessels ODC has worked on include Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs), crude oil tankers, container ships, LNG and LPG carriers, chemical carriers, bulk carriers, as well as dredgers, RO-ROs and barges.

Oman DryDock Company (ODC) has made another milestone achievement when it received the largest two carriers since starting the soft operation last April. The earlier gas carrier received by the company last year, Muscat LNG which is owned by Oman Shipping Company, was smaller in size compared to the carriers received by the dock during this period. Commenting on this milestone achievement, Sheikh Khalil bin Ahmed al Salmi said Oman DryDock Company received the German Crude Carrier Alpha Glory that has a capacity of 309,636 tons. The carrier, of dimensions  333 m x 58 m x 31.2 m will receive the required maintenance and repair service at the dock. The service includes the replacement of a large quantity of steel in addition to cleaning the tanks.

One of the biggest and most modern ship repair yards in the Middle East, Oman Drydock Company (ODC), has recently received its first LNG carrier, the Muscat LNG, owned by Oman Shipping Corporation SAOC. As part of its middle term service, Muscat LNG underwent the service operation at ODC during 11 days and was delivered within the estimated 12 days. The service operation for Muscat LNG included the mechanical cleaning of the main boilers and the fire sides. She was pressure tested and the LNG Cargo pumps, the ballast pumps and the safety and mounting valves for the main boiler were overhauled.
